If you are new here, my name is Ida Gohla and I am from Indonesia.
I would like to share my life story here in Switzerland (Language, Lifestyle and blending with the Locals here).
We, foreigners in a host country, talk always about our challenges in daily life. This accounts also for the life in Switzerland. I realised that video is the much better medium to convey stories about daily life, success and challenges in this beautiful country in the alps. I believe that no matter where we are we face pros and cons and it is us who make this adaptation phase a success or a challenge. I am obsessed to share my stories as an Indonesian living in Switzerland with all its experiences and learnings I had and have here with my family friends and in daily life.
Life is beautiful, no matter where we are and my video clips shall support those of you, who come from tropical parts of this planet and who in the beginning struggle to adapt to the challenges of language-, culture, regulations, lifestyle and habits and, of course, the 4 seasons and many more. I Hence, dear subscribers and visitors and for those who live here , enjoy and if you think it is worth while, feed my also with your experiences and stories. This helps us who live here and will help those, who are curious and do not live here (yet) to get a lively and real impression about this beautiful but different country.

A trip to Rapperswil Switzerland
Hi!
We recently visited a charming little village called Rapperswil in Switzerland and we wanted to share it with you. You can easily walk the village in a day, which makes it an excellent day trip. However, if you will like to stay overnight check out the Jakob Hotel it has great views and is in the middle of Rapperswil Hauptplatz. To see more pictures and hotel info, please visit our Instagram page and check out our Switzerland highlights.
During this trip, we took a stroll down the gorgeous cobblestone streets of the city of roses. The village is known for its rose gardens, so make sure you check them out. These are located along the Zurich lake and the Rapperswil castle. Make sure you stop and say hi to the deers! When visiting the castle ensure to walk the outside through the dirt paths, the walk will take you back in time and you will feel like you are in a medieval TV series. The main entrance of the castle connects you to the Hauptplatz (main square). There you will find the main church with a little chapel. The architecture and design will leave you breathless.
There are many churches in the area, however, we found one with a very unique prayer room. This is Capuchin Friary and it is located on the left-hand side (west) of the castle if you go in through the main entrance. Go down the stairs towards the rose gardens and the church is in the middle of the staircases on the right. Inside you will find a very simple small church, however, pass the confessionals on the right and walk towards the altar you will find the Antoniusgrotte. This is dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua and even though is a small grotto, you can feel the peacefulness that takes over your emotions as soon as you walk in. This monastery was established in 1606 and it is still in use.
Want a peaceful walk and leave all the stress behind? Take a walk along Lake Zurich or how about crossing it? Yes, along the side of the castle there are trails that wrap around the town alongside Lake Zurich. If you will like to be a little closer to the lake cross the train station and walk through the university. There you can find the wooden bridge which connects Rapperswil and the village of Hurden. This wooden bridge is the longest in Switzerland and it is a rebuild (April 2001) of the original, which was built 1523 BC. Amazing scenery with a backdrop of mountains all around, a vast lake, and beautiful swans. We hope you enjoy the clip and visit Rapperswil! RAPPERSWIL SWITZERLAND
2008.06.18 RAPPERSWIL,SWITZERLAND. Rapperswil is located on the east shore of Lake Zurich. It is sometimes referred to as Rappi. The old city is dominated by the castle. The town is considered one of the most significant traffic junctions in the region. The Seedamm, a dam across Lake Zurich, links Rapperswil with Pfäffikon on the other side of the lake. This connection has been part of old pilgrimage routes. The town's main sights are concentrated in the centre and can be seen while strolling through the medieval alleys. The main sights of Rapperswil are its roses, the castle, the reconstructed wooden bridge to Hurden with its bridge chapel, and a Capuchin monastery. There are also a number of churches, chapels, and the nearby Wurmsbach Abbey. Rapperswil is often referred to as the town of roses (Rosenstadt) because of its extensive displays of roses in three designated parks. No less than 15,000 plants of 600 different kinds may be viewed between June and October. There is also a rose garden in the town center, accessible to blind and disabled people. The Rapperswil castle probably dates to the 13th century. Perched atop a hill, it dominates the old town. Deer are kept on lands surrounding the castle. Since 1870 it has been home to the National Polish Museum, created by Polish emigrés (including the castle's lessee and restorer, Count Władysław Broel-Plater).

Lake Zurich in Zurich, Switzerland
Lake Zurich in Zurich, Switzerland
Lake Zürich is a lake in Switzerland, extending southeast of the city of Zürich. Depending on the context, Lake Zürich can be used to describe the lake as a whole, or just that part of the lake downstream of the Seedamm at Rapperswil, whilst the part upstream of Rapperswil may be called the Obersee or Upper Lake.
The bent, almost banana-shaped Lake Zurich is framed on the southern side by the Albis and Zimmerberg hills and on the north by the Pfannenstiel chain of hills. The lake is bordered by the cantons of Zurich, St.Gallen and Schwyz. At the western end lies Zurich, Switzerland’s largest city.
Whereas, in the past, the lake was above all a route for traffic and transport, today it is a popular place for excursions, and homes along its shores are much sought after. Gently rocking waves, peace and quiet, relaxation and fine food: the best way to discover the Lake Zurich area is by taking a boat trip. Most of the places around the shore are served by a regular boat service all year round. The undisputed favourites with the public are the two historic paddle-steamers. From the “Gipfeli-Schiff” (early mornings) to the “Sonnenuntergangs-Schiff” (sunset sailings), there are all kinds of special excursions available. Musical trips and special tours on public holidays are all part of the programme offered by the Lake Zurich shipping company.
The famous “golden coast” extends along the northern side of the lake, from Zollikon to Feldmeilen. This sun-soaked region is famous for its low rates of taxation and high property prices, and is therefore the stretch of coast where you can seen the magnificent houses and villas of the upper echelons of society.
At the eastern end of the lake is the “rose town” of Rapperswil. In the public gardens here you’ll find over 15,000 rose bushes blooming, of more than 600 different varieties. The lakeside promenade with its Mediterranean charms, the picturesque Old Town and the medieval castle make this harbour town a popular place for excursions. For young visitors, Knie’s Children’s Zoo is high up on their wish-list.
Popular places to visit around Lake Zurich include the numerous swimming areas, the Alpamare in Pfäffikon – the largest covered water park in Europe – the sunny islands of Ufenau and Lützelau near Rapperswil, the wooden footbridge across the lake between Rapperswil and Hurden, the Baroque church in Lachen, the famous Lindt & Sprüngli chocolate factory in Kilchberg and, of course, the dynamic metropolis of Zurich, with all its many sights, the famous shopping mile of the Bahnhofsstrasse and its vast range of cultural amenities.
Lake Zürich is formed by the Linth river, which rises in the glaciers of the Glarus Alps and was diverted by the Escher canal into Lake Walen from where its waters are carried to the east end of Lake Zürich by means of the Linth canal. The waters of the Lake of Zürich flow out of the lake at its north-west end, passing through the city of Zürich; however, the outflow is then called the Limmat. The culminating point of the lake's drainage basin is the Tödi at 3,614 metres above sea level.
No streams of importance flow into the lake besides the Linth. The Seedamm, a partially artificial causeway and bridge, crosses a narrow point of the lake carrying a railway line and road from Rapperswil to Pfäffikon. The eastern section of the lake is known as the Obersee, German for upper lake. West of this dam lie the small islands of Lützelau and Ufenau, where in 1523 Ulrich von Hutten took refuge and died. Both shores are well cultivated and fertile. Another touristic destination is the Au peninsula at the village of Au between Wädenswil and Horgen.
To the east – separated by Zürichberg-Adlisberg, Forch and Pfannenstiel – are two minor lakes: Greifensee (Lake Greifen) and Pfäffikersee (Lake Pfäffikon). Zimmerberg and the Etzel regions lie to the west.
Administratively, Lake Zürich is split between the cantons of Zürich, St. Gallen and Schwyz. The lower lake, to the west of the Seedamm, is largely in the canton of Zürich, whilst the upper lake is shared between the cantons of St. Gallen and Schwyz.
