Woodhorn Museum, Ashington - September 2017
Thought I'd take the bairns up to Woodhorn Museum and teach them a thing or two about life in the olden days. They don't know they're born nowadays.
Woodhorn Mining Museum--Ashington, Northumberland
Woodhord is undoubtedly one of the real finds of this walk. Situated next to the outsanding Queen Elizabeth II Park the Cutter Musuem is just 'best in class'. The only disappointment was that on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, with totally free admission that the place was not bursting at the seams. But a glorious record of an integral and proud chapter in the region's economic and cultural history. and

Woodhorn is based in original colliery buildings and a stunning new building, inspired by the monster coal cutting machines that were once used deep underground. Its entertaining and interactive displays paint a picture of life in this former mining community.

Woodhorn Museum
If you are spending a few days in this area of Northumberland don't miss the Woodhorn Museum which tells the history of coal mining in the area. There is a small car parking charge but the museum is free and for a small fee you can have a ride on the Woodhorn Narrow Gauge Railway that runs from the same site and around the lake. Suitable for Children and Family viewing

Cycle path from Woodhorn Village to Woodhorn museum
Short section of cycle path that hasn't been maintained in years, except for them recently putting a wire fence up near the main road so you have to go round the stupid barriers rather than cycle over the grass and straight across the road. The right hand lane of the segregated part is supposed to be for bicycles. I have been told by Sustrans that this will be sorted out in a few months. There is a few years worth of mulch on the path which is very slippery when wet.
