LBL Ky: Traditional Community Destroyed by Feds
There was once a thriving community Between the Rivers in west Kentucky and Tennessee. The area was home to traditional, hard working Americans who embodied the frontier spirit. These hearty, self sufficient folk lived a simple agricultural lifestyle and carried on many old world customs and crafts such as traditional whiskey making and wild honey collection. Old European folk beliefs meshed with a protestant world view creating a uniquely American culture. Many aspects of this lifestyle continued into the 20th century. Most BTR residents traced their roots too English, Scotish, Irish, and German families who settled the land. Many had received land grants in payment for service in the American Revolution. Based on TVA surveys of the 1960s, some families even still possessed their original land deed from the KIng of England dating to the 1700s. The community was first weakened by the destruction of fertile farmland resulting from the TVA projects of Kentucky and Barkley lakes. The final blow was delivered by forced removal of hundreds of families during the construction of Land Between the Lakes National Recreation area.
Taylor Bay LBL Upload MPEG
Kayaked to an Island from Taylor Bay Backcountry Area in LBL. Pretty quiet, isolated camping spot at Taylor. The Island is just at opening into Taylor Bay. We were on the Barkley Lake side of LBL. Two nites. First night was very cold because of late night fog rolling in. Luckily there is a ton of downed trees and washed up logs for campfires. Made a great campsite. Saw an American Bald Eagle also. Enjoy!
Possible Sasquatch howls in LBL
After hearing these howls, we also got wood knocks, rocks thrown at us, and quite a bit of other evidence! I'll post the other video soon! Note: There ARE wolves in the Nature Station, but this sounded a little different! This was in Land Between The Lakes, KY at the Nature Station area.

Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area is a 170,000 acre tract of land in between Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley in Lyon and Trigg Counties, Kentucky and Stewart County, Tennessee. This place is massive, over 265 square miles in area, making it the largest inland peninsula in the United States. To the west of this area is the 160,309 acre Kentucky Lake--the largest man-made lake east of the Mississippi River. To the east of Land Between the Lakes is Lake Barkley which is 58,000 acres in area. In short, lots and lots of water in this area. There is also lots to do whatever your favorite outdoor activity may be. Backpacking on the north/south trail, hunting, fishing, day hiking, a buffalo exhibit as well as many other activities are all available at Land Between the Lakes. I really enjoyed my time exploring the area. It is truly a destination area and a national treasure. Thanks for watching!
