The waterwheel at Sussex Wildlife Trust's headquarters, Woods Mill nature reserve, turned for the first time since 1996. Improvements to the sites water management helped make this possible.

Dawn at Woods Mill 30th April 2017
Woods Mill Nature Reserve, Henfield, West Sussex on the 30th April 2017 between 5am and 7am, where the bird song and calls were many and varied. These included: Green Woodpecker, ChiffChaff, Blackcap, Little Grebe, Song Thrush, and a Nightingale with the ability to sound like a frog croaking! Even though the bird calling was right in front of me, it was well-hidden!

Pondtail Wood
Illegal felling of a wood near Henfield has destroyed centuries of woodland history.
Sussex Wildlife Trust joined with local residents and other conservation groups including Friends of the Earth to protest near the wood. The Planning Authority (in this case The South Downs National Park) must now enforce the restoration of the site. The longer the work goes on the more expensive it will be for the landowner to put it right again. Ultimately, the responsibility for enforcing the laws of the land lies with the government. Government must ensure that the planning authorities have the tools to do the job.

Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust - Badger Interview John Field by Cotswold TV
John Field talks about the Vaccination of Badgers
John Field from the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust explains to Rowena the method undertaken to vaccinate the Badgers here in Gloucestershire.
Founded in 1961 and funded by membership, donations, corporate support and charitable trust grants, we work to protect and conserve natural habitats for the benefit of Gloucestershire's wildlife and people.
We manage over 60 Nature Reserves in the county and continue to carry out surveys and research to identify other key sites of conservation importance.
Educating the public about the value of wildlife is one of our key aims. We run a successful schools' programme, educating over 2,000 children a year and run over 100 events giving people the opportunity to get closer to wildlife.
With a membership of over 23,000, we aim to give a voice to wildlife and enable our valuable natural places to be protected for generations to come.
How you Can Help...
The Trust relies on funds raised through membership, donations and corporate support to continue it's valuable work. That's why your help is more important than ever to help us protect Gloucestershire's natural beauty for generations to come.

A Stroll with The Friends of the Southdowns
Today I am walking near Eartham Wood, through Gumber Farm and back along Stane Street. I am close to Slindon in West Sussex and taking a stroll with The Friends of the Southdowns. My guide is John Mayes.
At Gumber farm there was once a decoy airfield that served to divert enemy planes during the Second World War. The National Trust have a bothy there where walkers can stay over night should they want to.
The Friends of the SouthDowns are set up to protect, conserve and promote the wonders of the Southdowns National Park. Many members are enthusiastic walkers and love nothing better than rambling over the chalky undulating hills. Just as we are today.
