I hope you enjoy my vlog, we were just goofballs the entire trip.

CrossFit Tumuora: Fitness Versus Fatness on the Cook Islands
With owner Olivia Heather and head coach Geoff Halston at the helm, CrossFit Tumuora has been transforming the Cook Islands community through its emphasis on an active lifestyle and good nutrition since July 2013.
“The Cook Islands is in a dire situation where we’re actually … the second most obese country or population in the world, as well as the most overweight,” Heather says.
“About 90 percent of our population is overweight, and 64 percent of them are obese,” she notes.
Indeed, obesity rates in Pacific islands are among the highest in the world, but things are slowly changing.
“We’re becoming a lot more aware with the war on carbohydrates and the processed sugars. I believe there’s a huge drop in fizzy drinks being drunk,” CrossFit Tumuora member Mario Cafferty says.
“(The) main thing is to sort of rid our people of all the health problems we’ve got through diabetes and non-communicable diseases, and (CrossFit) is a great way to do it,” says member Paul Lyncy.
He continues: “The great thing about this is community. Lots of people getting to know each other who don’t normally see each other—different ages, social groups and different villages—and we’re united under the umbrella of love of CrossFit.”

Rarotonga Underwater 2018 (Cook Islands) Diving/Spearfishing/Snorkelling
A video of us discovering the underwater world in Rarotonga, Cook Islands last winter (July 2018).
We went for a spearfish off the shore at the black rocks when we first arrived as it looked like the easiest to get out past the reef. As at many other places around the Island it is very difficult and dangerous to get outside the reef and here was no exception here with strong currents turning into a kind of outgoing waterfall. You had to be careful not to hit anything and just go with the flow. Once we got out it was great, very calm with amazing visibility. We encountered Barracuda, turtles and lots of other fish. Coming back in over the waterfall was tricky and you had to kick hard until you could hold on to something and pull your way in. We would not have managed without long freediving fins. I would not recommend doing this alone and take extreme care.
A few days later we jumped onboard with local fishing charter Akura Fishing Charters Rarotonga on a nice boat and explored some of the nearby FAD's where we ran into lots of Wahoo. We managed some nice 33kg Wahoo which we ate for the rest of our trip, giving away to the locals and also even brought some home to NZ. We only did a half day with 4 of us and had a blast - would highly recommend. You’ll need to be prepared with your gear if you’re wanting to shoot and land fish because they get very big. Hit us up if you’re planning a trip and need any gear or advice. dutchy's.co.nz
Trader Jacks Rarotonga is an interesting spot for a shore dive, with a wreck only a few hundred metres away from shore - it’s visible from the surface, so you can't miss it.
We had some fun times snorkelling inside the lagoons seeing loads of fish, turtles, clams, and coral. Muri beach is great spot, just stay clear of the passages where the water is going out of the lagoon and into the ocean, they have loads of current and there are loads of snorkelling charter operators such as Captain Tama's Lagoon Cruizes

Muri Beach Rarotonga - Cook Islands 2018

TTW15: NZDF in the Cook Islands
The New Zealand Defence Force is again proving that it is a Force for Good in the Pacific by leading a 60-strong multinational task group that is delivering humanitarian aid projects in the northern Cook Islands as part of Exercise Tropic Twilight. These projects include relocating a critical fuel depot and refurbishing schools and hospitals in the northern atolls of Penrhyn and Manihiki. Around 30 engineers and skilled tradesmen from the NZDF are working alongside around 20 military engineers from China, the United States and the United Kingdom in the northern Cooks from 31 August to 12 October 2015.
Around 40 engineers and skilled tradesmen from the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) have deployed to the Cook Islands to lead a multinational task group that will relocate a critical fuel depot and refurbish public buildings in the South Pacific nation. Members of the New Zealand Army’s 2 Engineer Regiment are working alongside around 20 military engineers from China, the United States and the United Kingdom as part of Exercise Tropic Twilight. The FANC (Forces armees de Nouvelle-Caledonie) and the Australian Defence Force are also supporting this targeted humanitarian activity. Tropic Twilight is a recurring activity that is conducted this year in the northern Cook Islands atolls of Penrhyn and Manihiki from 31 August to 12 October. The exercise is held to practise the NZDF’s capability to deploy alongside other militaries to provide humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in the Southwest Pacific.

Anti- purse seine march on Rarotonga, Cook Islands
- About 400 people, young and old, marched through Avarua, Rarotonga, on Friday afternoon 24 April 2015. They are trying to show the prime minister and ministry of marine resources that purse seining should not be allowed in Cook Islands waters. So far their calls seem to have fallen on deaf ears.
Rarotonga International Triathlon - Boiler Swim 2013
- The Boiler Swim marks the start of the annual Rarotonga International Triathlon festival. It involves an open-water swim from Avarua Harbour - Trader Jacks - around the remains of the SS Maitai that foundered on the reef in the early part of the 20th century.. The time for the anticlockwise trip is about ten minutes.
