The World Famous Kentucky Club, Juarez, Mexico - History and Tour
This place is reportedly the oldest bar in the sprawling city of Juarez, Mexico (opened in 1920). And it's a classy place too, definitely one to try if you make it across the border.

If you go, give the Margarita's a try, the were supposedly invented here in the late 1930s. This was also the stomping ground of a number of Hollywood celebs in the golden age of movies.

Hi from Ciudad Juarez, Mexico: The Kentucky Club (birthplace of the Margarita)
Just a quick visit across the border (from El Paso, Texas) to the birthplace of the Margarita. Had been over 20 years since I last was in Mexico!

Exploring Central Ciudad Juarez, Mexico
Ciudad Juarez is located just across the Rio Grande River from El Paso, Texas.
The Spanish first established a mission in the area in the 1600s to support their exploration and colonization of the southern Rocky Mountains (modern day New Mexico). As the population grew around the mission and military facilities, it became a city that would later be divided between the U.S. (El Paso, Texas) and Mexico (Ciudad Juarez) after the Mexican-American War.
Ciudad Juarez grew into one of Mexico's major cities and an important industrial center, with the metropolitan area now home to more than 2.5 million people.
I'll note that widely reported drug-related turf battles led to a spike in the murder rates here that peaked in 2010. But the murder rate has dropped dramatically since then (although there remains plenty of room for further improvement).
I have explored the city center area on two different trips. It was the first Mexican city I visited - I was surprised how much the culture differed when I made a short walk across the Rio Grande.

Life and Death in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico
Warning: some graphic footage in this short video documentary. Very little press covers the incredible level of organized violence and plight of the people in this region. Western sponsored.
On July 28, 2017, ABC aired a 20/20 Special: The video shows that in 2013 two U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers appeared to encourage, or at least permit, a 16-year-old Mexican high.
Part 1 of Life and Death at the Mexican Border explores the dangers immigrants face while crossing the border into the United States. There are currently about 11 million undocumented immigrants.
