World Peace Bell in Newport, Kentucky
This bell chimes noon every day, and swings occasionally. I wouldn't be surprised if it chimes midnight on New Years, though, because that was when it first chimed ever (January 1, 2000, at 00:00).
This is the largest bell in the United States (and the occident). The rest of the interesting information is at the beginning of the video (size and other facts).
The V on the striker stands for Verdin, the American casters of the bell (Paccard also helped cast the bell).

STORYLINE:
Monks and Russian Orthodox believers have welcomed the arrival of a gargantuan bell at the Trinity St. Sergius Monastery as part of a project to replace bells destroyed under the Soviet Union's atheism campaign.
The 72-ton (79 tonne) Czar Bell - more than five times as heavy as London's Big Ben - is to be hung in the tower of the monastery outside Moscow, one of Russian Orthodoxy's holiest sites.
The Czar Bell is a replica of a 1748 bell by the same name destroyed during Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin's campaign against religion in the 1930's.
It is the third bell to be replaced in the monastery, where some 40 bells were wrecked.
After a three-day trip by truck from its casting site in St. Petersburg the bell stood outside the white crenelated walls of the monastery, waiting to be hoisted into the bell tower.
At the end of an outdoor service commemorating its arrival, believers kissed the bell or placed their foreheads on it.
Monastery officials said the bell will be ringing by Easter.
Under Stalin, thousands of church bells were smashed and re-smelted across the Soviet Union as churches were razed and monks executed.
Churches that were not torn down were used as breweries, factories, secret police facilities and for other purposes.
The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 brought a strong revival in the church.

Bells of Peace
Bells of Peace
What is the National Bell Tolling?
Bells of Peace: A National World War I Remembrance is a national tolling of bells to honor those who served in the Great War. The United States participated from April 6, 1917 to November 11, 1918.
Why should we toll the bells?
Tolling of bells is the traditional way to mark someone’s passing. On special national occasions, bells are tolled in honor of the fallen. November 11 is the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended hostilities in World War I. In the war, 116,516 Americans died and over 200,000 were wounded.

Peace Bell Ban Ki-Moon
UN Secretary- General Ban Ki-moon today (21 September) rang the Peace Bell at the United Nations commemorating the International day of Peace.
Ban was also accompanied by Messengers of Peace, actor Michael Douglas, anthropologist Jane Goodall, Nobel Prize laureate Elie Wiesel, actor Forest Whitaker, Goodwill UN Youth Champion Monique Coleman, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Celebrity Advocate, model and Actress from India.
Before observing a minute of silence to honour the victims of conflict Ban said, Today we must ring the peace bell with extra force and conviction. We need its beautiful sound to be heard above the voices of discord and extremism that have sparked violence in recent days.
Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The General Assembly in 1981 declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. The theme of this year's observance is Sustainable Peace for a Sustainable Future.
The Peace Bell was a gift from the Japanese government. It was cast from coins donated by children from many parts of the world. The date was picked to coincide with the opening of the General Assembly which occurs in September.
