Cata-al World War II Museum
A vast personal collection of World War II artifacts unearthed over many years by a father-son duo. From the age of five, Felix Cata-al began looking for relics of World War II in the Valencia region of the Philippines, where he lived. This area, surrounding the nearby Mount Talinis, was the site of the battle of the Visayas, which was fought by U.S. forces and Filipino guerrillas against the Japanese in 1945. Felix’s late father Porforio Cata-al was a part of the guerrilla movement, and after the war, started collecting war artifacts that were scattered around the region.
Felix inherited this passion for his town’s role in world history, and helped expand this personal collection, which is displayed at their home museum. Spent and unfired ammunition, grenades, unexploded bombs and mortars, rifles, pistols, knives, machine guns, personal items, equipment, bones, uniforms, helmets, teeth, field manuals, an American jeep, parts of Japanese fighter airplanes, and Nazi German artifacts—the museum has it all.
A history aficionado’s dream is to find Yamashita’s treasure, the alleged war loot stolen from across southeast Asia by Japanese forces during World War II, and hidden in caves, tunnels and underground complexes, in the Mount Talinis region. As this region was one of the last holdouts of the Japanese military and much of the loot has never been found, many believe the treasure is still hidden in the area.
Felix runs the museum today and has researched every object he owns and loves to share facts about the history and use of every piece on display. He also has a wealth of war stories from locals and soldiers who fought during that time. Over the years of searching, he even discovered the remains of 26 Japanese soldiers, which he handed over to the Japanese government.
Know Before You Go
Located along the main thoroughfare from Dumaguete to Valencia, about 4.5 miles from the city, the museum is on Felix Cata-al's personal property. There's a sign out front and Felix is a popular personality in the town so getting directions to his museum is never hard. All are welcome to drop by with no entrance fee. Donations are accepted.
Bataan World War ll Museum
The Bataan World War II Museum is uniquely but strategically located at the back of Balanga Elementary School. The museum was built as a tribute to our fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in 1942. It showcases tragic tidbits about the mentioned war, especially the horrendous Bataan Death March where thousands of Filipino and American soldiers perished.
This is where Major General Edward P. King Jr. surrendered the American and Filipino forces to the Japanese to prevent further destruction and loss of lives. Visitors will be able to see structures and dioramas about the war. A short video offers snippets about the events that unfolded. Moreover, a diorama features doll figures portraying the torture and pain soldiers had to endure. There is also an old toilet adjacent the museum which has been turned into a torture chamber. This room was preserved and remained untouched. The surrender site monument is found within the vicinity of the museum. It features the life-sized statue of Major General Edward King when he signed the document of surrender to Japan on April 9, 1942. A visit to this place will refresh your memory about the fateful events during the Second World War.

Palawan WW2 memorial museum, Puerto Princesa, Philippines
In 1944 the area was controlled, as were the rest of the Philippines, by the Imperial Japanese Army which had captured the country and held the people along with US Military prisoners under brutal conditions. In Palawan American POW’s were being held in order to construct a Japanese airfield. The prisoners were held under harsh conditions with little to eat and a lack of medical care.
In 1944 the US Military returned to the Philippines to liberate the islands. The US had been sending flights over the island and had conducted a few bombing runs. The prisoners in Palawan, officially designated as Camp 10-A, had dug air raid shelters in order to escape any bombs dropped on the camp. The Japanese army had been seeing ships passing by and had endured a few raids so they knew a landing force was imminent. With each bombing run or ship sighting the treatment of the POW’s got worse.
The location of the POW Internment Camp is now a park: Plaza Cuartel located adjacent to Immaculate Conception Cathedral, the city’s main Church.
During the tour, you’ll find many interesting things inside the museum. The place is sprawling with old military warfare and vehicles. Different weapons of old are carefully preserved and showcased inside glass cases. Guns of different shapes and sizes are a sight to behold, not to mention the World War II jeep that is parked near the entrance. One of the famous artifacts displayed are the old weaponry and clothes of the Palaweño guerillas who fought in the war. Aside from weaponry and armor, paintings are posted on the wall depicting not only the Word Wars but also the cultural heritage of Palawan. There are also posters containing information on land, sea and air vehicles used in WW2.
Entering the Palawan Special Battalion WW2 Memorial Museum only costs about P30. Children below 10 years old are given free entrance. The museum is open daily from 8am to 12nn and at 1pm to 5pm.

AFP Museum, Philippines
This video shows my first visit to the AFP Museum, even though I have been at GHQ for a lot of times already.
The museum is full of artifacts, memorabilia, and stories of the brave men and women who fought for our country. There are also a collection of former President Fidel Ramos' memorabilia (including some of his famous tobacco cigars).

Filipino Japanese Amity Memorial Shrine 2019 ( ft Cata-al World War 2 Museum)
In this Vlog, I will show you the different content of my vlog. it's all about the History of Japanese Base located at the top of the Mountain in Valencia.
I talk to Constantino Cata-al, or Tantin, as he is commonly called, has been foraging the foothills of Mount Talinis as a young grade-schooler in Valencia, Negros Oriental. Often times, he would find surviving relics from World War II - Japanese bones, ammunition, firearms, bombs, grenades, uniforms, etc. He would painstakingly collect these historical artifacts as a hobby that extends to this present day. Mount Talinis has been the battleground that saw the Japanese's last stand against the combined Filipino-American might during the last days of the war. Today, he has amassed an extensive collection not just of Japanese war artifacts, but American as well. For the sheer size of his collection, only half can be displayed on the 1st floor of his residence which acts as the mini-museum.
To commemorate the fierce battle that took place on the foothills of Mount Talinis (the general area where Tantin found his artifacts), a shrine was erected on the precipice of a ridge overlooking Dumaguete and the Bohol Sea. It's aptly called the Filipino-American-Japanese Amity Shrine.
