Tommy World War One Soldier Sculpture - Seaham
Filmed and Edited by macsetmedia.co.uk
WWI Soldier Lands in Seaham
The 9.5ft sculpture, fashioned from corten steel, reflects the first minute of peacetime, as a World War One soldier slumps down to contemplate the close of conflict.
The sculpture also represents what is now known as Post Traumatic Street Syndrome (PTSD) which many faced as they returned from the battlefields.

Tommy, the world war 1 memorial soldier statue!
In today's vlog I travel north to a seaside town called Seaham and visit a statue I have passed but never fully understood.
Tommy sits on the shore of the Seaham town, being built in 2014 Tommy was not meant to be a permanent fixture! The local residents and businesses raised the money to buy him and keep him on the front not far from the War memorial.
Tommy sits on a time capsule which contains various items including a war medal!

Sculpture of British Tommy reflecting upon the horrors of World War One during the first minute
Sculpture of British Tommy reflecting upon the horrors of World War One during the first minute after peace was declared installed for centenary
A war-weary Tommy sits thoughtfully, head bowed, rifle in hand, as he reflects upon the sheer horror of World War One during the first minute after peace was declared in 1918.
This imposing metal sculpture, entitled 1101, owing to the fact the armistice went into effect at 11am on November 11, 1918, stands 9ft 5ins tall and weighs 1.2 tonnes.
Built out of special corteen steel, it has been installed on Seaham seafront in Country Durham to mark the centenary of the start of the Great War and will remain in place for three months.
Created by local artist Ray Lonsdale, the sculpture is also intended to represent Post Traumatic Stress Disorder which many of the returning soldiers endured. Mr Lonsdale got his idea for the piece after hearing a story about a soldier from nearby Murton who won a war medal.
Scrap Metal Solider Sculpture Honours End Of World War 1
A 6-metre statue has been unveiled of a World War I soldier in Dorset. But it's not your average statue as this one is made entirely of scrap metal from forks to spanners and fridge parts. For more information on the soldier, visit and for the latest forces news, go to

'Fruits Of The Sea' - A poppy display made from stones and shells from the County Durham coastline, laid out as a tribute to those who died in conflict. Hundreds of shells, stones and whelks were used to create the display, which has been placed at the foot of the Tommy statue in Seaham to mark Remembrance Day.
The Fruits of the Sea display was created by David McKenna and Philip Ridley, who both served in the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, and Seaham resident Margaret Lennox, who are part of Seaham's Remember Them Fund.
