Milestones of Borkum Riffgrund 2, Germany
Did you know that there is more than 1 GW of V164 turbines already installed? The latest installation is at Borkum Riffgrund 2, where 56 of these gentle giants stand proudly in German waters – for the very first time. It’s also here that V164 turbine #100 was installed, making Borkum Riffgrund 2 a very special project for us.
Constructing offshore wind farm Borkum Riffgrund 2
Borkum Riffgrund 2 is one of Ørsteds offshore wind farms. Located roughly 54 kilometres off the coast of Lower Saxony in Germany, 56 wind turbines are generating enough electricity to power approx. 460,000 German households.

Borkum Riffgrund 1 Foundation Installation
Last week, all 77 monopile foundations were successfully installed at the offshore wind farm Borkum Riffgrund 1 in the German North Sea. Installation was carried out using a noise mitigation system to lower the impact on adjacent marine life. It is the first time ever that this system has been used this way.
Global Wind Service - Borkum Riffgrund II
Borkum Riffgrund II offshore wind farm consists of 56 MHI Vestas 8MW turbine and is located in the North Sea, 57 kilometers off the coast of Germany.
Global Wind Service delivered wind turbine technicians for pre-assembly, installation and completion.
Once in operation, the 450MW wind farm will supply 160,000 German households with green energy.
Made in Germany | Offshore Energy: Germany Plans Wind Parks on the Open Sea
As more and more windy areas on land fill with rotors to convert wind power to electricity, manufacturers are pushing to move their facilities offshore, where the wind is stronger and steadier. Germany has plans to generate 25,000 megawatts of power from offshore wind energy by 2030. That corresponds to 15 percent of electricity use.
The Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency has given the green light for six wind turbines for commercial use to be built 45 kilometers off the North Sea island of Borkum. The operator will be Alpha Ventus. Ironically, the wind has delayed construction until 2009. But a model plant is being built off the mainland town of Hooksiel. Three pipes, three meters in diameter are being rammed 45 meters deep into the Wadden Sea. Then come the tower, the gondola and the 60 meter long rotor blades. Made in Germany was there to see the giant wind energy plant put together.
Riffgat Wind Farm Stymied by World War II Explosives | Made in Germany
Germany is trying to make the switch to renewable energy. The high-profile Riffgat offshore wind farm, built off the coast of Borkum, was slated to begin operating this month. Thirty windmills now stand ready and waiting in the North Sea -- but they can't supply any electricity.
The discovery of munitions dating from the Second World War on the seafloor has prevented the grid operator from installing a power cable connecting the wind farm to the mainland.

Veja Mate offshore wind farm in the German North Sea
DGI Doedijns delivered the complete hydraulic installation, including e-controls for the pile gripper used to place monopoles for the Veja Mate windpark.
This frame has been installed on the world’s largest wind turbine foundation & installation vessel: “Seajacks Scylla”.
The pile gripper for the Veja Mate wind park will be used for the placement of 67 XXL monopoles, each having a weight up to 1300 tons, a diameter up to 7.8 meters and a length of 85 meters.
The length of the XXL monopoles and the influence of the sea are forces that should be taken into account structurally. To prevent the heave on the pole from damaging the complete construction, this installation is provided with a heave compensation system.
