WORONORA DAM HITTING HIGH!!
After well over 400mm of rain from about 25 April through to 3rd May 2015, I did a couple of trips out to Woronora Dam, New South Wales, Australia, to see what the impact on the storage level of the dam might be.

UPDATE WORONORA DAM FEBRUARY 2013
Since my last video on seeing how the Dam was coping in April 2012 with the affects of environmental flows, even during rain periods where the NSW Government lets out more water (????!!!!), I went for another look, February 2013, after we received an absolute deluge after long months of no decent rain. 140mils of rain fell in a 24hr period, yet the Dam level only went up1.1% from 73.1 to 74.2% full!!. Yet because of of the heavy downpour, they let out MORE ENVIRONMENTAL FLOW WATER of 228ML WHILE IT WAS RAINING!!!! The authorities, and assorted other groups seem to think it doesn't rain pass the dam wall!!!!!
Apparently the population's drinking water comes second to the environment. Yet this particular river bed is more of a rocky gorge, not a real free flowing river as you may imagine.
But the dam does lose about 5ML a day through leaks where the ground water also gets added in. So why let out the environmental flows??

Woronora Pipeline
Woronora Pipeline leads you all the way to the Dam. The following link contains a map with the trail head:
The return trip is around 24km. Doesn't sound like a lot but there are some massive hills which will challenge most riders.
Woronora Dam 30 06 13
Around 12:20pm, Wednesday June 26, Warragamba Dam was at full capacity and started spilling through the radial gates and central drum gate. This following torrential rain over all the drinking water catchments, Sydney metropolitan area and surrounds. The rain continued for another four days and I ventured out to have a look at Woronora Dam. On previous visits when Warragamba and the other dams in the system are spilling, this one is below capacity and quiet. This trip was no different, though it was only 1.1 metres below capacity. There was a lot of debris in the water.

WORONORA DAM 28 FEB 2012 UPDATE
Check out the latest updated Fri 9 March visit for a big difference too.
In this update we visit the dam and see the effect of a very wet summer where the dam has now reached 75% full but they still let out the environmental flows even though it's been pouring rain!
The authorities say that the water being let out of Waragamba Dam is the first time that rivers systems have been flushed in years. How quickly they forget about the environmental flows of millions of litres each day out of the dams!!
With a current deluge happening, this dam will be visited within a week or so to see what further levels will be reached and what effects environmental flows will have.
Woronora Dam 26 02 13
February 25, 2013, a Sydney Catchment Authority spokesperson is quoted in the ABC News story 'Warragamba Dam spills after rains', saying - Virtually all of the dams if they're not spilling, they're very, very close to spilling...
What is very, very close to spilling?
February 26, 2013, I went out to the Woronora Dam to see for myself. I Was not surprised at what I found, as the same thing happened last March.
Why is the Woronora Dam always so low?
