Opening of the new Wreck Point Scenic Lookout in Yeppoon
IT’S been a project over 30 years in the making, but the highly anticipated unveiling of the iconic Wreck Point Scenic Lookout upgrade became an exciting reality over the weekend.
The stunning location in Cooee Bay was identified by the Yeppoon Lions Club as an opportunity to visually enhance as far back as 1982, when they first proposed building a lookout at Wreck Point.
Fast-forward to February 2017 and the start of works for a contemporary viewing deck were welcomed with the Queensland Government contributing $190,000 in funding under its Scenic Lookout Upgrade Program to the project with Yeppoon Lions contributing $90,000 and Livingstone Shire Council $134,000.
The upgrade was part of a $3.2 million Queensland Government program to spruce up scenic lookouts throughout the state.
Wreck Point Lookout - Yeppoon
G’day it’s Pat and in this video I am taking you to Wreck Point. This lookout is just south of the town center and close to the road for easy access.
Whenever I get the itch to get outdoors that’s where I usually end up.

Yeppoon Foreshore Revitalisation takes another giant leap forward
Livingstone Shire Council’s vision to turn the Capricorn Coast into a premier coastal destination has taken another massive leap forward with the tender for construction of the much-anticipated lagoon precinct, which will form the centrepiece of the $53million dollar Yeppoon Foreshore and Town Centre Revitalisation, to be released this week!
Construction on the lagoon itself will start in May with remedial earthworks getting underway later this month.
$18M Foreshore Lagoon Precinct is officialy underway!
One of the most-anticipated community infrastructure projects in the history of Livingstone Shire is now officially underway.
Mayor Bill Ludwig was this week joined by Deputy Premier and Minister for Infrastructure Jackie Trad, State Member for Keppel Brittany Lauga and Federal Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry to turn the first sod at the Yeppoon Foreshore Lagoon Precinct, marking the start of construction works on site.
Detailed design plans for the 2500 square-metre lagoon are the result of extensive community consultation and will ensure the Capricorn Coast’s newest iconic attraction will truly be in a class of its own.
The Lagoon Precinct is the spectacular centrepiece of the Yeppoon Town Centre and Foreshore Revitalisation Project and will encapsulate some of the unique attributes of the Capricorn Coast, including a swim-up infinity edge with stunning views over the Keppel Islands.
It has been strategically designed to include both a shallow-depth children’s play area as well as an informal lap swimming area, shaded areas in and around the lagoon, while two storey pavilion will offer stunning interactive dining areas overlooking the entire precinct.
Council has long held plans to develop the region into one of Queensland’s premier coastal destinations, and through projects like the Yeppoon Foreshore and Town Centre Revitalisation and the strong partnership support we have received from the Australian and Queensland Governments, our shared vision continues to unfold into an exciting reality.
Livingstone Shire Council 2015/16 Budget
The centre piece of the budget is a $60million capital works program that will be critical in ensuring the Shire’s economy and our community remains on-track for a comprehensive post-cyclone recovery.
This capital works program comprises new projects and further stages of projects already commenced that have been made possible through Council’s major successes in securing approximately $26.5 million in State and Federal funding over the past 12 months.
Key areas of these capital budget expenditures include $32.5 million in new works and renewals for roads, bridges, pathways, and transport infrastructure, as well as another $5.2 million to maintain our rural and urban road networks at the highest possible standard.
A further $4.4 million will be available to deliver new water, sewerage, and waste management infrastructure, while $2.3 million will be spent on stormwater infrastructure improvements.
The budget also provides $11.8 million in major community, tourism and economic development infrastructure including Stage 2 of the Emu Park Centenary of Anzac Project and boardwalk, Stage 3 of the Yeppoon Foreshore Waterplay Feature and Amphitheatre, Stage 1 of the Yeppoon multi-storey car park, further development of The Gateway Business and Industry Precinct, major sporting and recreation facilities, Shire-wide playground upgrades and new skate-park for Glenlee.
