TRIP TO WULAI WATERFALL & BITAN SCENIC AREA
#Taiwan #Taipei #台灣 #烏來 #碧潭
BITAN ( 碧潭 )
Named Green Lake in Chinese, this park is a great getaway from the city. Only 40 minutes away from Taipei Main Station at the southern terminus of the MRT green line, Xindian Station (新店), this riverfront park is home to a wide variety of restaurants and is a great place to relax.
Besides the ample choices for food at the riverfront, the interior road is home to a night market selling a variety of Taiwanese and pan-Chinese snacks, called xiǎochī (小吃), as well as select favorites from all over the world.
Spanning over the Xindian River is the Bitan Suspension Bridge connecting the two neighborhoods on the east and west side of the creek, making it one of the landmarks of New Taipei City. 200 meters long, the bridge was completed in 1936, the bridge is unique in that it is illuminated by light beams that change in color, creating a random effect and mini light-show.
The area along the east bank is home to a large amount of restaurants and food shops, carnival activities, park amenities, as well as paddle boat rentals. Grab some snacks and jump in a boat with some friends!
Wulai Waterfall (烏來瀑布) is a large waterfall in New Taipei City, Wulai Township. The waterfall can be observed from the road, There is also a gondola lift which carries passengers over the top of the waterfall, to Yun-hsein Park (雲仙樂園), which is located in the valley above the waterfall.
Taiwan VLOG 02 Sun Moon Lake, Taiping Suspension Bridge, Longgong Waterfall

Xindian, Bitan Suspension Bridge, & Hemei Trail (✈️Travel ????????Taiwan Series Day 7)
Day 7 of the ✈️ Travel Taiwan Series. Be part of the journey:
(Timestamps are below.)
0:12 Talking with you
2:34 Not far from Zhongxiao Fuxing, you'll see a shop that sells a pastry with filling inside. I chose to go with the cream and it tasted pretty well. The name of the place is 同心圓水晶紅豆餅 and is located in: No. 133, Section 1, Fuxing South Road, Da’an District, Taipei City, Taiwan 106
3:18 Not far from the first pastry shop is another pastry shop that sells an assortment of baked goods, ranging from breads, sweet breads, pork floss/scallion breads, Q pork pie (I really don't like it), cakes, and etc. The name of the shop is Charlie Brown (查理布朗製菓) and is located in: No. 123, Section 1, Fuxing South Road, Da’an District, Taipei City, Taiwan 106
5:55 Not far from the Technology Building Station (科技大樓站) is a restaurant that serves bento box meals. I chose the one with the pork belly and the entire meal tasted amazing. I've had a few bento boxes in Taipei and I believe this one may be my favorite. The meal had so many things, such as the creamy pork belly, bean curd, spinach, lettuce, I believe Hong Kong sausage, a half boiled egg, and something sweet. It was great!
The name of the shop is 長榮發池上飯包, and it's located in: 號, No. 299, Section 2, Fuxing South Road, Da’an District, Taipei City, 106 | 02 2739 4088
7:31 The journey to Xindian. After walking around, I finally bumped into a grand view of the hills and river. I was also surprised when I saw the Bitan Suspension Bridge. I've only been on one suspension bridge, and that was the Baishihu Suspension Bridge in Neihu (Day 3). I didn't think I would see or go on another one. The Bitan bridge felt a little more wobbly than the Baishihu, but I did enjoy walking on the bridge while being able to still be within the city. It's not too far from Xindian station. And it's around here:
No. 10, Xindian Rd, Xindian District, New Taipei City, Taiwan 231
10:33 After walking over the Bitan Suspension Bridge, I decided to go up Hemei Trail 和美山步道. It was a nice experience, but I didn't enjoy being on the trail as evening approached.
13:31 Once I got down from Hemei Trail, I crossed the Bitan Suspension Brdige and went direction to Xindian Road. It was evening and there were food stalls everywhere. I had a baozi from this one stall and it was amazing! Also! The lady truly could've ripped me off, as there weren't any signs that said the price of the baozi, so I gave her 30 TWD. She waved her hand and head, gave me back the 20TWD and just smiled. It was really great to see that. Now, I don't know the name of the shop and didn't find it on Google Maps. However, I found the stall that's literally right next to the baozi stall, and the name of is 古早味蔥抓餅 and the location is: No. 232, Xindian Rd, Xindian District, New Taipei City, Taiwan 231
After that, I went to a little shop and saw some awesome noodles. I pointed towards it, but I think the lady got confused, since it wasn't the same noodle dish I pointed to, plus it tasted really so-so. But I was glad to see her passion when she was telling me to try her pork with rice (zhu rou fan 滷肉飯). I can see the enthusiasm and passion in her eyes, so I had to try it. And I'm glad I did. It was amazing.
It tasted very creamy and flavorful. And I think it may be my favorite zhu rou fan so far. As for the name of the place and location, that I couldn't find. However, it's still on Xindian Road, so you shouldn't have an issue finding it. If anything, just take a screenshot of the shop from my video and that should make it easier for you to find.

Forests, Flowers, and Waterfalls
Text: Rick Charette
Sun-Link-Sea
A “forest and nature resort,” a privately operated getaway idyll (NT$250 entry fee).
At the upper end of the resort road is at Songlong Rock Waterfall. At the base of a Cinemascope-wide semi-circular cliff is a large, deep green lagoon busy with fish in the water and eye-catching birds above. Two massive mid-lagoon boulders are covered completely with vegetation, trees “impossibly” growing atop their solid-rock bed. The cliff’s base is “gone,” to a height of 30 meters and a depth of 30, a cave now where once soft sandstone was emplaced. A paved pathway takes you along the cliff base and through the gaping hole, and you emerge directly before the waterfall itself, at its base.

Between Sun-Link-Sea and Xitou – Wangyou Forest
Beside County Road 95, a few kilometers from Sun-Link-Sea, you’ll see a large “Wangyou Forest” sign From there, a narrow road leaps up past tea fields, tilted at startling angles. Take the 15-minute huff-and-puff walk up to the forest-entrance path (NT$50 entry), or use one of the privately-operated shuttle vans (NT$200 return). Wangyou Forest is a section of tall-pine forest drowned when the creek that gurgles through was blocked by Taiwan’s infamous 921 Earthquake in 1999.
Le Midi Hotel Chitou
This is a veritable high-mountain hideaway oasis of regal splendor amidst a world of tall trees and rugged mountains. The owners are avid hunters of European-nobility antiques, and eager to show them off. In the lobby and other areas you are regaled with imperial-French furniture, clocks, and other curios collected on hunting forays in Europe. The guestrooms are all spacious and tastefully appointed in modernistic continental European style, with bright nature-evocative green, white, and brown tones predominant. Room rates start at NT$11,000; one dinner and breakfast included

Xiaobantian Bridge
Opened in 2014, this is mountainous Nantou County’s highest extradosed bridge, its roadbed 60 meters up from the valley floor. Its soaring grey towers are shaped like giant bamboo stalks, just like Taipei’s famed Taipei 101 tower. Xiaobantian is home to numerous fetching waterfalls, Dexing Waterfall perhaps the best-known. On the higher reaches of a boulder-strewn Beishi River tributary stream, it has two sections, the upper, 30m high, has carved a cool, calm pool at its base perfect for wading.
Sky Ladder Scenic Area (NT$50 adults)
A well-maintained trail brings you down, down, relentlessly down to the bottom of Taiji Gorge. Moving through thick bamboo forest, among your gorge-bottom rewards will be the Sky Ladder – a suspension-bridge engineering marvel – a sheer-cliff cave-dwelling Earth God temple below it, and Qinglong Waterfall.
BeYoung Garden
On the second floor of a still-operating small inter-town bus station that looks like a set for a 1950s period movie. “Zhushan” literally means “Bamboo Mountain”; the area is renowned for bamboo cultivation and products, bamboo is a key restaurant decorative material, and the chefs make edible bamboo a prominent ingredient. Specially recommended: the “three-cups mushroom bitter-tea range chicken” and “dried bamboo with soy-braised pork” set meals.

Jiaobanshan & Little Wulai
Highway 7, which stretches about 130km, begins at history-rich Daxi town in the west, follows the Dahan River to its upper reaches, and jumps the Xueshan (Snow Mountain) Range, ending by the coast on Yilan County’s Lanyang Plain.
Our first stop was Jiaobanshan Park. Clear signage (with English) along Highway 7 points you down County Highway 117, to “Central Fuxing.” The park entrance is on the right of the main road, down a short alley, just as you enter Fuxing, a cluster of a few-score buildings. The quiet, pretty landscaped grounds (free entry) take up a wide plateau right behind the settlement, high over the exaggeratedly serpentine Dahan River, twisting like a giant dragon forcing a mountain egress. The central attraction in the park is a villa – the Jiaobanshan Resort – once used by Chiang Kai-shek, now a museum filled with photos of events past.
Visit the underground command-post bunker complex – the War Preparedness Tunnel – inside the plateau beneath the villa, dug out should the Generalissimo come under attack from Mao Zedong’s red forces, and take the well-maintained plateau-escape trail down to a graceful suspension bridge on the river, where back when a speedboat always stood ready to whisk CKS downriver to the Daxi command base should the main highway be cut off.
Other plateau-top buildings house displays on the region’s logging and camphor-production days. Before early 1900s synthetic-camphor production began, Taiwan was a key natural-camphor producer. Beyond trading, first contact between Han Chinese and island mountain tribes often came with Han camphor-extraction incursions.
Further along Highway 7, a left turn takes you uphill along County Highway 115 to the Little Wulai Scenic Area. The turnoff is just before the 7 jumps the Dahan to its south (left bank) side. A short way up a tributary, the scenic area is centered on a picturesquely rugged gorge and the loud, hurtling waterfall that exclaims its end. From the parking lot (NT$100 per vehicle), a gorge-side walkway takes you a few hundred meters to the glass-bottom Little Wulai Skywalk (NT$50 adults; closed noon-1pm), boldly extended directly over the 50m-high falls. This is a hanging-valley waterfall; the cliffs directly below you are an active fault line.
For more exercise than that offered along the short above-falls pathway, the steep, 750m Fall Base walk is highly recommended. Clearly signposted in English, it starts not far from the skywalk and takes you to a scenic spot from where you can see the waterfall in all its glory from below.
The Northern Cross-Island Highway
This is one of three stunningly scenic highways that snake their way east-west over Taiwan’s thick north-south mountain spine. The names of the other two begin with “Central” and “Southern,” respectively. All were major projects undertaken by the Nationalist government, worried about the Communist China threat, to facilitate cross-island military movement, especially should round-island coastal-area movement be cut off. This route initially was just a narrow garrison road hacked out by the Japanese during their 1895-1945 suzerainty, augmenting Atayal-tribe control. The Nationalist government widened, smoothed, and paved it 1963~1966.

Ling Jiao Waterfall (Taiwan)
A short clip of Ling Jiao Waterfall in Taipei, Taiwan.
The hike was about 5 ~ 10 minutes long. We parked near a train station, so I'm assuming you could also take the train to this place.
There isn't much of a hike for those that are looking for a workout. But the waterfall jump is one of the higher ones I've done in Taiwan. I would say 3 stories high?
