Alan Wilson Historian - The Hidden History of Britain
Turn on captions for English subtitles.
Alan Wilson is a British historian specialising in the origins and ancient history of the British and the history of the ancient British kings including two real King Arthurs.
Arthurian research:
In 1976, after a chance meeting with historical researcher, Anthony Thomas 'Baram' Blackett, at the public library in Newcastle upon Tyne, the two men decided to put up many thousands of pounds of their own money to fund full-time research into the origins of King Arthur. The Arthurian stories, so popular today, came out of South-Eastern Wales into France, via the Normans, in the 12th century and this encouraged them to start their search in the same place. The search soon moved beyond Wales to include the English Midlands which had been dominated by the old Welsh Kingdoms for centuries.
To date, Wilson and Blackett have published seven books that provide information based upon Old Welsh records that date to the 12th Century. They believe that these provide a final solution to the King Arthur story and have clearly identified the true sites of the battles of Badon (Mynydd Baedan) and Camlann.
In 1983, Wilson and Blackett discovered what they believe to be King Arthur's memorial stone at the small ruined church of St Peter-super-Montem on Mynydd-y-Gaer in Mid-Glamorgan, which they subsequently purchased. The stone was offered to the National Museum of Wales (Amguedda Werin Cymru) for analysis, but the offer was not taken up. Subsequently it went on public display in various venues for some time. Following this, they employed the services of two archaeologists, (Professor Eric Talbot and Alan Wishart) in 1990, to lead a dig at the same place. During the excavations, which were authorised by the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales, several artefacts were discovered including an ancient axe, a knife and a small cross weighing two and a half pounds, that reads Pro Anima Artorius (For The Soul Of Arthur). The cross was subsequently tested by an independent metallurgical house, Bodycote PLC, and found to be made of electrum, and so certified. The cross was offered up to the National Museum of Wales for public testing, but this also was declined.Wilson and Blackett had already identified the church as an ancient historical site possibly originally dating from the first century A.D. Other major Welsh kings are buried locally.
More recently, Wilson and Blackett began a search for what was known as 'The Greatest Work of the Cymru' - Cyfrangon. This is allegedly a massive, hollow, man-made hill concealed somewhere in Wales (similar to Silbury Hill). Treasure hunters in Wales have long sought this fabled hill in which, it is believed, lie several objects of tremendous historical and archaeological value, many of which may be covered in gold or copper.
The use of deep ground probing metal detection and analysis equipment revealed non ferrous metal artefacts some fifteen feet below the surface of the hill at Twyn y Glog, near Ynysybwl in mid Glamorgan. Further investigation by collaborators proved that the original height of the hill lies some 30 or more metres below the Ordnance Survey height, and that the hill is therefore an artificial construct. (Berkly, G., 2007).
No further tests have been made to date (10 September 2007).
Lecture tours:
Alan Wilson and his colleague lectured extensively in the United Kingdom, including Manchester and Jesus College at the University of Oxford, and Alan Wilson gave the prestigious Bemis Lecture in Boston in 1993. Research into claims that the Welsh settled in mid-western America in antiquity led to Wilson and his colleague, Baram Blackett, accepting invitations from American supporters to visit US sites of historical significance in 1994. The visit led to several television appearances and the deciphering of alphabetic inscriptions claimed to be in the old 'Coelbren' alphabet. Wilson also concluded that the many snake mounds in the American Mid-west were of ancient Khumric-British construction. Whilst in America, the two men were also commissioned to produce a detailed genealogy for the Bush family (friends and supporters of President George H. W. Bush).

Canoe hire trip on the river Wye, running the Symonds Yat rapids
Half day Canoe hire trip from Kerne Bridge to Symonds Yat
Canoeing the Wye from Kerne Bridge to Symonds Yat takes half a day. We operate two trips a day, in the morning (08.30 - 09.30) and afternoon (12.30 - 13.30). You could linger with a three quarter day trip if you wished, starting at 11.00 am and finishing at 4.30pm. Ideal for an extended lunch (mind not to drink too much though).
CANOEING FROM KERNE BRIDGE TO SYMONDS YAT
Setting off from Kerne Bridge you will pass through Lower Lydbrook, and navigate around a small island. This is only 25 minutes downstream but you may wish to take a break here as there are refreshments that can be purchased here.
Continuing your canoeing along the Wye you will pass Welsh Bicknor on your right and English Bicknor on your left. At Welsh Bicknor there is a former rectory with a church in the grounds, and a large grassy area ideal for picnics.
Shortly after is the area where the 18th century Rev. Gilpin first introduced the word 'picturesque' to the English language in describing the surrounding landscape. For him it defined that kind of beauty which is agreeable in a picture.
When the river starts to turn west you will come through a beautiful valley. You will find Ship Rock high above your left shoulder. The cliffs that run along the skyline are Coldwell Rocks, home to the Peregrine falcon. The end of the line of cliffs is marked by Symonds Yat Rock. As you come under the rocks there is a shingle beach that backs onto a meadow on the opposite side, which acts as the perfect half way stop off for a picnic or a snack.
From here the River Wye takes a long wide oval course, nearly coming back on itself at Symonds Yat. But before reaching Symonds Yat you will paddle your canoe under Huntsham Bridge (the green bridge) and it takes about 25 minutes back from here.
As you enter Symonds Yat West you will see large boulders on the left, this is the landmark we advise paddlers to remember as our landing point is on the right just opposite them.

USA - Middle East leaders meeting
T/I: 11:10:58
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat have achieved a breakthrough on a long-elusive deal to turn over more West Bank territory to the Palestinians. The two Middle East leaders arrived in Washington on Monday (28/9) to meet U-S President Bill Clinton following talks that lasted late into Sunday night with Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.
SHOWS:
WASHINGTON DC, USA, 28/09
MS President Bill Clinton, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu and Palestinian Chairman Yasser Arafat entering room;
SOT President Clinton: First of all I would like to publicly welcome Prime Minister Natanyahu and Chairman Arafat We have had a very good meeting today following the one-one meeting the prime minister and chairman had last night - their first face to face meeting in nearly a year. I believe we all agreed that we have make progress on the path to peace. There has been a significant narrowing of the gaps between the two parties acreoss a wide range of issues in American initiative
we've been working on for months. I think also to be candid there is still a substantial amount of work to be done until a comprehensive agreement can be reached. But because I am convinced that the two leaders and the people they represent want peace I have asked them to come back to the United States in mid-October with their teams to do the intensive work necessary to see if we can complete this. Meanwhile I've asked the secretary of state and ambassador Ross to go back to the
region in early-October to try to see how much prepartory work can be done to narrow the gaps further and agree on at least the .... for what we will hear in mid-October. So in total a good day and again I want to thank ... for the open, candid respectful way they worked and we worked together. And we're going to work at this now;
CU Netanyahu;
SOT President Clinton: Let me say this in the end whether there will be this agreement depends upon how badly they want it, how much we can work together, how much trust can be built and sustained, what kind of process for insuring the agreement can be agreed by the two parties. So I think what I'm telling you is that they have made a very unusual commitment, they have committed several days of not only their own time but also the time of their appropriate administration and staff people to try to resolve the remaining gaps. I can also tell you that I
personally was very impressed by the way, the manner and substance of their conversations with me today. So we all said we needed to change change the dynamics of the process to increase the likelihood of completion. We've made significant progress on the path to peace and I think we could finish in mid-October and I certainly hope we do;

YHA/MOD Family Activity Breaks
Families who have lost a loved one in military service have been spending their holidays together as part of a pilot project supporting bereaved children and their parent.
Families' Activity Breaks also know as FAB camps are activity holidays, run by the Ministry of Defence in partnership with the Youth Hostel Association (YHA).
Activities include building rafts, abseiling, rock climbing and flying down zip wires.
The aim of the camps is to provide a safe, and nurturing atmosphere for families to deal with their grief and meet with other families who have been through a similar experience.
The first FAB camp took place at the YHA Youth Hostel in Coverack, Cornwall in August 2009 and sounddelivery was invited by YHA and the MOD to speak to the families taking part in the holiday. This audio slideshow captures the holiday atmosphere and highlights the real value of the FAB camp.
Man killed in river plunge death named as David Cox
The man travelling in a two car family convoy, who died after both cars skidded and fell head long into the River Wye in Derbyshire has been named as 42 year old David Cox. The accident happened as Mr Cox was travelling with his 11 year old daughter on his way to work at the BBC, when the car is believed to have hit an icy patch. His daughter escaped from the icy river water, but although rescuers pulled Mr Cox from the car, he later died in hospital from his injuries.
Then the second car that his wife was driving with their 9 year old son on board also skidded on the same icy patch and plunged headlong into the river. Both family members swam to safety. Derbyshire Fire and Rescue department have released a statement confirming that the 'bad weather certainly contributed to the tragic accident.
And there are warnings of further snowfall in parts of the UK this weekend, as well with heavy rain forecast, which could increase the threat of flooding. So be prepared if you are in Scotland, northern and eastern England and the Midlands. And follow the latest weather and travel updates wherever you are.

Woman Does U-Turn On Busy Mway After Roadworks Scare
A woman driver has lost licence after traffic cops spotted her doing two U-turns on a busy motorway because she thought her slip road was closed and feared getting lost.
The unnamed motorist had been travelling on the Beijing-Taipei Expressway over the city of Xuzhou, in East China’s Jiangsu Province, when she suddenly panicked and tried to go back to where she came from.
Traffic camera footage of the incident on 2nd November shows the woman slowing down and suddenly doing a U-turn on the motorway.

Oxfordshire A40 crash One motorist killed and two fighting for life after multiple car crashes fog
One person has been killed with two others fighting for their lives after two crashes on a major road in Oxfordshire as families travel back home after the Christmas break.
Up to 15 other people were also injured after the incident on the A40 shortly after 8am today.
Two crashes took place on a 1000m stretch of road in heavy fog. Emergency services say the road was also covered in ice.
It comes after forecasters issued severe weather warnings for thick fog this morning with temperatures plummeting to -6C.
One crash happened leading to car backing up in traffic before a more serious crash in the middle of the traffic.
