Dallas Arts District
From You+Dallas - - Lights up on the Dallas Arts District featuring the museums, restaurants, and attractions that make Dallas a fascinating place to live and visit.
The Dallas Arts District, located in Downtown Dallas, is one of the largest of its kind in the United States. Covering 68 acres, the Dallas Arts District is home to some of Dallas' most significant cultural landmarks including buildings designed by four Pritzker Prize-winning architects. Our creative team was challenged to visually present in five minutes thirty years of effort by some of Dallas' leading citizens to construct one of the finest arts districts in the United States.
This piece of visual art opens with a glimpse of the artistic strength of the Dallas Black Dance Theatre, featuring dancer Jamie Thompson. The Dallas Black Dance Theatre is the oldest, continuously operating professional dance company in Dallas.
The Crow Collection of Asian Art is a permanent set of galleries dedicated to the arts and cultures of China, Japan, India and Southeast Asia.
The Dallas Museum of Art, or DMA, offers world class exhbitions and eductional opportunities. Every Thursday evening there are live jazz concerts, dinner and drinks in the cafe, and artist encounters in the Center for Creative Connections. Once a month the DMA is open until midnight with performances, concerts, readings, film screenings, tours and family programs.
The Dallas Opera performs at The Winspear Opera House at the AT&T Performing Arts Center. We had the pleasure of capturing the essence of the Dallas Opera under the direction of Music Director Graeme Jenkins recently in this masterful visual presentation.
The Meyerson Symphony Center, designed by I.M. Pei, is a magnet for the finest artistic talent, such as the Dallas Symphony Orchestra Musical Director Jaap van Zweden.
The Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre is one of the world's most innovative theatre facilities. The 12-level building features a groundbreaking design with an unprecedented stacked, vertically organized facility that completely rethinks the traditional form of theatre. The Wyly Theatre was designed by frequent TEDxSMU speaker, Joshua Prince-Ramus, and Pritzker Prize winner Rem Koolhaas.
The Nasher Sculpture Center is one of the few institutions in the world devoted to the exhibition, study, and preservation of modern sculpture. The Sculpture Center, designed by Pritzker Prize winner Renzo Piano, is the home of the world renowned Raymond and Patsy Nasher Collection of modern and contemporary sculpture.

AT&T Performing Arts Center's Sammons Park an elegant, unifying public place
The AT&T Performing Arts Center board of directors wanted a place in the city of Dallas that that all people could come and enjoy and would bring together the Center's newest venues: the Winspear Opera House and the Wyly Theatre. Michel Desvigne of Paris, in collaboration with SmithGroupJJR, designed the lively, 10-acre Elaine D. and Charles A. Sammons Park, the largest public park in downtown Dallas. It's where families, concert goers, students and people who live and work throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth region can relax among mature trees, multiple lawns and natural gardens with Texas native plantings, promenades and walkways, and a dramatic reflecting pool that pays tribute to donors. Joshua Prince-Ramus: Building a theater that remakes itself
Joshua Prince-Ramus believes that if architects re-engineer their design process, the results can be spectacular. Speaking at TEDxSMU, Dallas, he walks us through his fantastic re-creation of the local Wyly Theater as a giant theatrical machine that reconfigures itself at the touch of a button.

ABOUT:
On the eve of the state’s secession in 1861, Governor Sam Houston is torn between loyalty to Texas and loyalty to the United States. As he weighs the terrible choice he must make, certain of the devastating cost of either path, Houston tells Jeff Hamilton (his slave and office clerk) of a time when he, and the Union itself, stood trial. This searing, world-premiere drama presents the true story of some of America’s most famous leaders—Andrew Jackson, Francis Scott Key, and John Quincy Adams, among others—and one man’s struggle with what it means to be brave in the land of the free. Contains profane language and racial slurs. Recommended for people Middle School age and up.

Gocha is internationally known for his moves and his attitude. His distinctive accent is a souvenir he brought over with him from the former Soviet Republic of Georgia. Gocha is a master of Latin dance and has the resume to prove it. He and his partner Shorena are a formidable pair, together they've won some of the biggest Latin Dance competitions in the nation: the Southwestern U.S. Invitational, the Florida State Championships, the Hawaii Star Ball and the Manhattan Dance Championships. His competition success laid the ground-work for his highly successful coaching practice in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Gocha molds dancers from all skill levels and and from all over the U.S. in all aspects of ballroom, from exercise and choreography right down to the proper use of sequins in a ballroom gown. Ballroom Bootcamp isn't Gocha's first Television appearance. He and Shorena have been featured five times on the PBS television program Championship Ballroom Dancing. The two also represented the United States at the World Professional Latin Dance Championships in South Africa.

By ROBERT SCHENKKAN
Directed by KEVIN MORIARTY

About:
Following the success of DTC’s 2016 production of All the Way, The Great Society continues the story of Lyndon B. Johnson’s turbulent presidency in the second part of Robert Schenkkan’s epic theatrical event. While the president fights a “war on poverty” at home, his war in Vietnam begins to spiral out of control. Besieged by political enemies, Johnson desperately fights to pass civil rights legislation and some of the most important social programs in American history, even as the country turns against him and descends into chaos. Filled with a cast of legendary characters—from Martin Luther King, Jr. to Bobby Kennedy and Richard Nixon—The Great Society is an exhilarating examination of power, morality and change. Contains profane language, mature themes, racial slurs, violent projections, and violent language. Recommended for people High School and up.
