The Wynnum Wading Pool was built during the 1930s Depression as part of the Unemployment Relief System. The pool and adjoining playground are much-loved destinations for a family day out. The pool fills with seawater at high tide and is an ideal spot for kids to splash around and have fun without having to venture out into the open water.
Make a day of it and bring along a picnic. Just a few metres from the water park are a number of picnic tables and electric barbecues.
At low tide, kids can chase the legions of soldier crabs scuttling across the foreshore. Then finish the day with ice-cream and fish and chips on the jetty.

Wynnum Esplanade comes to life as the sun sets on yet another day in this lovely part of the world!
Ex-TC Oswald Storm Surge - Wynnum Esplanade 27/01/13
Ex-Tropical Cyclone Oswald tracked from the near the top Cape York, all the way down the eastern inland of Qld, then NSW, in January 2013. By the time it reached here, it was the equivalent of a high category 1/low category 2 cyclone, with winds measured up to 131km/h (Cape Byron), 0.5m storm surge, and massive rainfall. Upper Springbrook, in the Gold Coast Hinterland (100km south of Wynnum) was deluged with 1453mm (57 inches) in 4 days, including 744mm (29.3 inches) in 24 hours. Also, at least 6 tornadoes occurred in the Wide Bay district to the north, damaging over 150 homes. A very memorable weather event!
