Virginia City is the Wild West
Virginia City, NV may be set in the 1800′s but the entertainment is timeless! It is a town rich in history and the home to a lot of firsts and lasts. Mark Twain first used his pen name here, Janice Joplin joined what would be her first band and they have the last full speed stagecoach ride.
There is an ever evolving calendar of events and something different almost every weekend! There are wild west show downs, themed balls, silly parades and museums galore. You can walk the town and enjoy the shops and saloons or dig in your heels and try every adventure. I love costumes and you have to love a town where you can dress in 19th century attire and blend in. With so much to do, the only thing you will have to worry about is how many days you can spare to stay.

Hiking to High Rocks at Big Survey Wildlife Management Area near Wytheville, Virginia
The Big Survey Wildlife Management Area is located right in the middle of Wythe County, just south of the town of Wytheville, in southwestern Virginia. Several mountains make up this WMA. The High Rocks are a massive quartzite rock outcropping along the ridge of Sand Mountain. There is an unblazed trail to High Rocks leading from the eastern parking lot off State Highway 640. The trail is just a little over 1 mile (one way) with just over 500 feet in elevation gain to reach the rocks. High Rocks offers some spectacular views of Wytheville and the surrounding area. Crystal Springs Part 1
Welcome to Crystal Springs just off Hyw 21outside off Wytheville VA. Crystal Springs is a public park that is used by bikers and hikers. The soil is sandy and rocky so there is not much mud here, even after a big rain. It has one big loop, the Boundary trail, and many other shorter loops at the bottom which are fun as well.
The Claw Of The Dragon
The Claw of the Dragon
Approximate Distance: 224 miles
With over two hundred miles of incredible riding and stunning scenery, the Claw of the
Dragon will take you on some of Virginia's best riding. Make sure you have plenty of
batteries for your camera when you leave the E. Lee Trinkle Regional Visitors Center in
Wytheville, since there will be many places along the way that you will want to stop and
remember. This scenic route follows meandering creeks lined with thick foliage and
more than once you will pass rustic barns on pristine farmland in wide open valleys.
Allow plenty of time as some of the routes involve very crooked roads, but that just adds
to the challenge and adventure in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Along the route,
you can experience some classic Virginia Main Streets, mom and pop eateries, state
parks, music venues, historical attractions and Mother Nature's majesty. This is a
dream ride that locals have been cruising for decades, ride the Claw and discover
why!

Driving WV Corridor H, 11/26/2015
A beautiful westbound drive on Corridor H on Thanksgiving evening 2015. Video is at 4x speed. No music needed, so add your own if you need some background sound.
Video starts at the 4-lane in Wardensville, WV and ends in Davis, WV.
More Info, maps, and updates:
From Wikipedia:
Corridor H of the Appalachian Development Highway System, also known as U.S. Route 48 (US 48), will run 148 miles (238 km) from northern Virginia to central West Virginia. It is being constructed from Interstate 79 (I-79) in Weston eastward across the crest of the Allegheny Mountains to I-81 in Strasburg, Virginia. While most of the highway has been constructed, only the portion east of Bismarck, West Virginia is signed as US 48 due to major segments of highway either under construction or under planning.
West Virginia's segment of Corridor H crosses very mountainous terrain, some of the most rugged in the eastern United States and crosses two major rivers. There are more than 1000 historic structures, five historic districts, two Civil War battlefields and other archaeological sites within five miles (8 km) of Corridor H, and the highway will cross through two national forests. There are over 50 species of plants and animals that are protected under the Endangered Species Act and more than 150 native trout streams, thousands of acres of wetlands and high mountain bogs, areas of karst terrain, abandoned coal mines and numerous recreational facilities within the Corridor H study area.
Driving from Gretna, VA to Virginia Beach, VA via US29 & I64
My trip is coming to an end. I spent a few days in Gretna with my folks, but now it's time to get back on the road. Only a few more hours until I get back home. It's been great, but I'm looking forward to getting there. :)
My Sony HXR-NX100 rode shotgun on a tripod shooting at 4 fps. The tripod was held in place using bungee cords giving it I nice smooth feel, even on bumpy roads. I also used this same camera to shoot various scenes around the country, and to interview folks.

Into Virginia on Interstate 77, two tunnels, Wytheville
This drive takes you through the East River Mountain Tunnel, and then the Big Walker Mountain tunnel, and on into Wytheville, Virginia on Interstate 77 Southbound. I finished the drive with a trip to one of my favorite antique spots, Snoopers, on the I-77/81 strip between Wytheville and Max Meadows.

I made this trip in August-September 2017. Video shot with a Brinno TLC-200 Pro time-lapse camera mounted on my roof with a homemade magnetic case. I travel with two Brinno cameras - one facing forward, the other in reverse. Sometimes the reverse camera captures better video (fewer raindrops and bugs hit the rear-view lens).

11 Wythe County VA 'Dogs in the Box' Still Wait for Rescue after 5 Years of Hell
Latest update April 2014: Another group builds the man a newer box. Supposedly the dogs will at least get outside for fresh air now. This is not the solution we hoped for or the dogs deserve, but this is what happened. We will update if anything new happens. Also, you will hear in this video an admission of the crime of animal cruelty, as Mr. Thomas states one dog died, he had fleas real bad. That is a violation of criminal law as well, failure to obtain veterinary care.
Dogs Deserve Better met with Assistant Wythe County Administrator Stephen Bear Monday, February 10, 2014, hoping to peaceably end this hell for the dogs. He seemed to see nothing wrong with these conditions.
Our first task is to CONVINCE WYTHE COUNTY that they are wrong! Call and e-mail the below numbers, asking them to immediately remove the dogs from this hell. We will have additional action points next week. Thank you!
People are asking for the address of this location. It is on Walton Furnace Rd. in Max Meadows. We do not have the exact number, but we urge you to go there at your own risk. The owner is alleged to be dangerous and he sees nothing wrong with the way he keeps his dogs. We are concerned that someone will get hurt. We did bring this up with the county official.

11 yellow lab mix dogs are living in a dark, dank, makeshift dungeon in Wythe County, Virginia, victims of a hoarding situation behind a trailer where their owner is squatting.
Dogs Deserve Better obtained this video February 6, 2014.
Media release:
Dogs Deserve Better, Inc., a nonprofit working to bring dogs into the home and family, obtained current video in early February of Wythe County 'Dogs in the Box,' and met with county official Stephen Bear Monday, February 10th to insist the dogs are freed from the makeshift dungeon.
Their concerns were not taken seriously, and the most that was promised was to send Animal Control out again. This is not sufficient.
The eleven dogs have reportedly lived in this dungeon for at least five years, and although the owner freely admits that one dog died from flea-related illness, Wythe County Animal Control and County Administration continue to maintain that there is nothing illegal about the situation.
Dogs Deserve Better, Inc. and other animal advocacy groups nationwide disagree, stating that many elements of Virginia cruelty laws are being broken daily; elements such as adequate space, exercise, removal of fecal matter, and inadequate lighting to name a few. Many of the male dogs have scarred noses stemming from constant fighting over food and/or the unspayed females coming into heat. The situation is unsafe and the dogs are victims of what is widely believed to be a hoarding case.
The dog's living conditions are made even more tenuous due to a legal battle alleging the owner is squatting on property that doesn't belong to him and has no working utilities, to include running water. Citizens attempting to help these dogs have been threatened with physical violence.
In a recent news story, Wythe County representative Jeremy Farley states that the photos are old and the situation is no longer ongoing. But that isn't true.
Dogs Deserve Better founder Tamira Thayne visited the property and the owner on February 6, 2014, and was able to obtain video of the outside of the dungeon and dogs but was unable to get inside to see status of feces buildup or food and water availability.
The makeshift box is dark, dingy, and when the caretaker was finally able to open a window for me to view the dogs, I was accosted by a the horrendous stench of what I can only imagine is feces buildup. The dogs are desperate to get out; one dog even pulling repeatedly at the wire caging in a plea for help, breaking his bottom teeth as a result, states Thayne.
She continues,That this situation has been ongoing for at least five years is unconscionable. While the owner maintains he loves these dogs, keeping companion animals as prisoners is not love. The situation is cruel and untenable. It can no longer be tolerated by caring citizens of Wythe County, the state of Virginia, and the United States. Please join with us today in demanding release of these helpless canine victims.

Wytheville Police & Sheriff Complaint Civil Rights Violation Revenue Cops Suck
After moving to Wytheville Virginia, the police have abused their authority on several occasions collecting revenue. The Sheriff's office also violated my 4th amendment right to Unreasonable Search & Seizure as a fishing expedition to make their case. In my situation, I had done nothing wrong but was treated as a criminal while the detective used undue puffery to obtain a search warrant by fraud.
Today, I was issued a summons for failing to pay some vehicle tax required by the Wytheville town treasury office. This annual license expired in December at the end of the fiscal year. On February 05, 2015, I was in the treasury office to pay for all my permits (Business License, Refuge Removal, Vehicle Decals). The clerk at the treasury office refused to accept a 20 dollar payment (Civil Disobedience) for the vehicle sticker in question after the new year has begun.
The situation of charging me with a vehicle violation based upon a tax is grossly unfair because I have already offered the treasury office the required money for this permit and it was refused at the municipal building under uncertain terms. The police officer did not advise any fine or the required court costs and indicated I can pay the offense by mail. How do you pay a fine by mail if there is no amount indicated to pay? If you go online to pay the fine, there is no list of charges or anything to identify how much to pay.
The county ordinance: this is very unclear why a permit is required and lists an exemption which may also apply.
