Ix-Xagħra is a village on the island of Gozo (Malta)
Probably the earliest inhabited part of Gozo, it is home to the Ġgantija megaliths, the Xagħra Stone Circle, as well as underground features Xerri's Grotto and Ninu's Cave. It is the second-largest village after Nadur in Gozo, with a population of ca. 5,100 people.
Xagħra Parish is dedicated to Our Lady of Victories, locally known as 'il-Bambina'. The liturgical feast is celebrated on the 8th day of September each year and is a crowd puller as it as the last feast in the summer festa season.

Exploring Calypso's cave near Ramla Bay in Gozo, Malta
Located a short distance from Xaghra or a pleasant walk from Marsalforn (my choice) it overlooks the red sands of Ramla Bay. It is assumed to be the cave referred to by Homer in `The Odyssey' where Calypso, the beautiful nymph kept Odysseus as a `prisoner of love' for seven years. The cave is a tight squeeze in places and requires a torch but it's worth the trip just fot the view.

Take III - Ghar Hasan, Malta
Ghar (Ghar=Cave) Hasan is a natural cave that was formed by the sea 70 metres above sea level.
The name is derived from the legend of a Saracen who is said to have lived there with a Maltese woman in the 11th century, after Malta had been conquered by the Christians. When the Christian soldiers were on their way to find them, he and his lover apparently threw themselves from the cliffs into the sea.
The access to Ghar Hasan is being kept closed since 2005 because of a danger from falling rocks, Tourism Minister Francis Zammit Dimech said in reply to a parliamentary question yesterday.
He said that access to the cave was closed off after a rock of some 180,000 cubic metres came off the cliff face on November 14 and another followed a few days later.
It had been established that there was a real danger for people who may be walking near the edge of the cliff and the whole area, which included the entrance to the cave, was closed off by the police.
Geological surveys were currently being made but the site would remain closed off until it was established that there was no further danger (but you can still find it in most of the tourist guides)
