Wuhan hospitals under pressure as coronavirus is 'getting stronger'
China’s health commission minister says coronavirus’s ability to spread appeared to be increasing. More patients have been found to have the virus in Wuhan, which has been placed under strict lockdown. Officials announced a range of measures to halt the outbreak on Sunday, including a nationwide ban on trading in wildlife and the suspension of long-distance buses in the eastern province of Shandong, Beijing and Shanghai.

Kobe Bryant Video of the Crash
Legendary NBA player Kobe Bryant has died in a California helicopter crash, reports said Sunday.
He was 41.
The retired Los Angeles Lakers star was traveling in his private helicopter over Calabasas when a fire broke out, sending the chopper spiraling from the sky, according to TMZ Sports.
The crash occurred around 10 a.m. local time amid foggy conditions in the hills overlooking Calabasas, with the Sikorsky S-76 chopper sparking a brush fire on impact that hampered initial rescue efforts, according to The Los Angeles Times, which confirmed the deaths of Bryant and four others aboard the craft.
There were no survivors, and the cause of the crash is under investigation, according to TMZ.
Authorities investigating the crash confirmed to KTLA – Channel 5 that at least five people were killed in the crash, but did not identify the victims by name.
Bryant’s wife, Vanessa, was not among those aboard the chopper, but his 13-year-old daughter Gianna was, according to reports.
He is survived by the couple’s other three daughters: Natalia, 17; Bianka, 3; and Capri Kobe Bryant, born just last June.
Bryant, a Philadelphia native, starred for two decades with the Lakers, winning five championships and making 18 All-Star Games before hanging up his basketball shoes following the 2016 season.
The stunning death of the sweet-shooting guard came just hours after he toasted fellow NBA icon and current Laker LeBron James for passing him for third place on the league’s all-time scoring list.
“Continuing to move the game forward @KingJames,” wrote Bryant on Saturday night in what would prove to be his final tweet. “Much respect my brother.”
Bryant concluded the message with an emoji of a bicep flexing, and the hashtag “#33644,” one point more than he scored in his illustrious career.
Bryant was considered a lock to be among the next class inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, set to be announced next month (New York Post, by Aaron Feis)
Spratly Islands - China/Philippines 'Incident'
T/I: 11:02:12
In a tense stand-off around the disputed Spratly Islands in the
South China Sea, two Chinese craft closed in on a Philippine Navy
ship carrying a general, while journalists flew helicopter sorties
from the vessel over a Chinese-occupied reef claimed by Manila.
The two Chinese ships, marked as fishing boats, cut across the bow
of the Philippine navy vessel Benguet on Saturday as it sailed
towards the Spratlys. The boats then approached the tank landing
ship from either side. Later, two Chinese warships appeared 15
nautical miles away. Philippine officials described the incident
as Manila's first direct confrontation with China over the
Spratlys. The 39 journalists were travelling at the invitation of the Philippines government, despite protests from Beijing.

Before leaving China, there had been discussions about this affair. The American soldiers are in good health and are well-taken care of in a naval base. And since leaving China my main concern has been the Chinese pilot who still has not been found. In all of the places in the world where I have travelled, I have seen that when two people are walking and bump into one another, they apologise immediately. I would like to make clear that we are trying to not to harm bilateral relations.

STORYLINE:
Chinese President Jiang Zemin has once again called for the United States to apologise for a collision between a U.S. military plane and a Chinese fighter.
Zemin speaking in Chile late on Thursday also said that the American pilots being held in China are in good health and are being taken care of.
Accompanied during the short press conference by Chilean President Ricardo Lagos, Zemin said that he was also concerned about the Chinese pilot who has still not been found and is presumed dead.
Jiang's three-day visit to Chile is the first stop in a 12-day Latin American tour that will include stops in Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Venezuela and Cuba.
Shortly before Jiang landed in Chile, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced that the 24 crew members of the U.S. plane held on a southern Chinese island are being questioned over their collision with a Chinese fighter.

U.S. Senate: Impeachment Trial (Day 7)
The Senate impeachment trial of President Trump continues with opening arguments by the President’s defense team.
Impeachment trial of President Trump | Jan. 27, 2020 (FULL LIVE STREAM)
The House managers wrapped up their arguments against President Trump on Jan. 24. Trump’s team, including lawyers Pat Cipollone and Jay Sekulow, now has 24 hours to present their case. After Trump’s lawyers conclude their presentation, senators will have an opportunity to submit questions to both sides in writing. Following that, debate will turn to whether to call witnesses and subpoena documents.
Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in December for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Impeachment does not mean that the president has been removed from office. In the next phase, the Senate must hold a trial to make that determination. A Senate impeachment trial has happened only two other times in American history and once in the modern era. At the center of the Democrats’ case is that Trump sought to withhold military assistance and an Oval Office meeting until Ukraine announced investigations into former vice president Joe Biden and his son.
