Torrential Rain Creates Severe Flooding in China’s Hubei Province
Firefighters evacuated trapped residents from torrential rain that hit Xiangyang city in China’s Hubei Province this Friday. Many roads and streets were also severely flooded making it hard for civilians to travel around the city.
Within two hours the depth of the flood had reached 80 millimeters. Many sections of roads were flooded, especially areas around culverts where the depth of the water reached 150 centimeters.
The exhaust pipe of our car was completely submerged, so our car wouldn’t start. We had to call the emergency services, said a Xiangyang resident.
There are about six or seven cars trapped near the traffic light. The traffic light is out of power, and the cars cannot move, said another resident.
Local firefighters scrambled to save the trapped victims and free stranded vehicles. Later, the firefighting services set up multiple drainage systems to help drain away the excess water.
