Tsai Ing-wen campaigns in Zhudong hoping to pick up Hakka support
DPP presidential candidate Tsai Ing-wen campaigned in Zhudong in Hsinchu County on Thursday, an area with many ethnic Hakkas who traditionally support the KMT. She pledged to make Zhudong a base for Hakka culture. The DPP’s Tsai Ing-wen paid a visit to the Xiao Ru-song Art Park in Zhudong and was welcomed by her supporters.Tsai made sure to tell them what they wanted to hear – that she would revitalize Hakka culture if elected. Tsai Ing-wenDPP Presidential CandidateWe hope that Zhudong will become a base in the future for studying and promoting mountain songs.Tsai’s visit to this Hakka area had much more energy than when she campaigned here for the presidency four years ago. But there was word within the party a day earlier that voters here were planning to back Tsai for president, but KMT candidates for the Legislature. Tsai Ing-wenDPP Presidential CandidateIn terms of legislators, because some of our nominations came relatively late, they haven’t had time to get things going. We will strengthen our campaigning for them so that our supporters will not only vote for president but also for the legislative candidates we have nominated. As Tsai was busy consolidating Hakka support, her campaign headquarters were also busy in other areas such as Hsinchu City. An event there offered ice cream to people who donate money or check in on Facebook during holidays.
