Calm Boat Ride Hangzhou West Lake 杭州 西湖 China
We were in Hangzhou, China! Today, we hired a driver to bring us around to take a look at the famous sites. The first place to visit was the famous West Lake of Hangzhou, 杭州 西湖.
According to Wiki, West Lake has influenced poets and painters throughout Chinese history for its natural beauty and historic relics, and it has also been among the most important sources of inspiration for Chinese garden designers. It was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011, described as having influenced garden design in the rest of China as well as Japan and Korea over the centuriesand reflecting an idealized fusion between humans and nature.
Many foreigners visited Hangzhou, even in historical times. The most famous among them was Venetian explorer Marco Polo, who complimented Hangzhou in his travel notes as the most splendid heavenly city in the world.
This video shows you snippets of the small boat ride. It costs 150RMB and the boatman took us on a circular route. It took about 40 minutes. Max of 6 passengers in the boat, but there were just the 4 of us. There were many other boats going by. Very calming. This lake is also famous for Legend of the White Snake. 白蛇传
By the way, the big boat ride (0:08) costs more, but brings you to a different place. We had no time to explore it today.

The Four Seasons West Lake is a dream. We loved every moment there. We felt welcomed and anticipated from the moment we arrived. The room and all the details the staff thought of to make our stay special were greatly appreciated and I can't wait for our next visit.

This aquatic tableau was one of the most sensational live performances I’ve ever seen, and that’s saying a lot given how many I’ve attended. 自古以來，“天下西湖三十六，就中最美是杭州”。
西湖風景名勝區以杭州西湖風景區為主體，由大量喬灌木組成疏落有致，大小不同的空間;以植物造景為主，季相變化豐富，輔以亭，台，樓，閣，廊，榭，橋，汀。環湖四周，綠蔭環抱，山色蔥蘢，畫橋煙柳，雲樹籠紗。逶迤群山之間，林泉秀美，溪澗幽深。園林佈局借真山真水，歷史文化，神話傳說，把山外有山，湖中有湖，景外有景，園中有園的風光點綴得淋漓致。
靈隱寺，始建於東晉咸和三年（公元328年），至今已有一千六百餘年的歷史，為杭州最早的古寺名剎。地處杭州西湖西的山嶺之中，背依北高峰，面迎飛來峰，兩峰挾峙，山地平緩，四周林青木秀，鳥鳴山幽，雲飄霧浮。開山祖師為西印度僧人慧理和尚，他在東晉咸和初，由中原雲遊入浙，行至武林（即今杭州）山中，見有一峰而歎曰：“此乃中天竺國靈鷲山一小嶺，不知何代飛來佛在世日，多為仙靈所隱”，遂於峰後建寺，名曰靈隱。

The cultural performance, “Hangzhou, A Living Poem”, which featured a symphony concert and gala on water, was staged alongside the West Lake. At night it also has a fountain show opened to the public and a show called Enduring Moments of Hangzhou. From May 2017 there is a new version and I haven't been lucky enough to experience by myself this new version but I have seen the old one and I can assure you that is worth the money you are paying.
The show is created in an East-Meet-West way. Dancers perform on a floating platform, so that it seems like dancers are dancing on the surface of the lake. The background music is played live.
-Funfact: West Lake appears on the back of the one yuan bill.

West Lake, located in the west of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, is one of the first national key scenic spots in China and one of China's top ten scenic spots. It is one of the main ornamental freshwater lakes in mainland China, and is one of the few World Heritage Sites and the only lake cultural heritage in China.
The West Lake is surrounded by mountains on three sides, covering an area of 6.39 square kilometers, about 2.8 kilometers wide from east to west, 3.2 kilometers long from north to south, and nearly 15 kilometers around the lake. The lake is separated by Gushan, Baidi, Sudi and Yanggong Dikes. According to the size of the area, there are five water faces, namely, West Lake, Xili Lake, Beili Lake, Xiaonan Lake and Yuehu. Su Di and Bai Dike cross the lake, Xiao Wei Chau The three small islands of Huxinting and Mekongdun stand in the heart of the West Lake. The Leifeng Pagoda in Xizhao Mountain and the Baoding Tower in the Gem Mountain are separated by the lake, thus forming “One Mountain, Two Towers, Three Islands, The basic pattern of the Three Dykes and Five Lakes.

Considered one of the most beautiful sights in Hangzhou, this scenic lake is sheltered on three sides by hills, with open flat land to the northeast where downtown Hangzhou is located.Xī Hú (literally West Lake) is a famous fresh water lake located in the historic center of Hangzhou, in eastern China’s Zhejiang province.
The lake is divided by three causeways called Su courseway, Bai courseway, and Yánggōng Courseway.West Lake is located in the western area of Hangzhou City's historic center. There are dozens of lakes called West Lake worldwide, but West Lake usually refers to the Hangzhou West Lake.It has an area of 6.5 square kilometers and is surrounded by mountains on three sides. The distance from north to south is about 3.2 kilometers, and east to west, 2.8 kilometers. The circumference is around 15 kilometers. The average depth of West Lake is 2.27 meters, and the capacity is about 14,290,000 cubic meters.
The lake is divided by Gu Shan, Bai, Su and Yanggong Causeways into five areas. Ordered by their areas, they are Outer West Lake, West Inner Lake, North Inner Lake, Little South Lak and Yue Lake. Outer West Lake is the largest. Gu Shan or Gu Hill is the largest natural island in the lake. Su & Bai Causeways run cross the lake. Three small man-made islands, Xiao Ying Zhou, Huxing Pavilion, Ruangong Stone, lie in the center of Outer West Lake. Thus, the basic layout is one hill, two causeways, three islands, and five lakes.
West Lake is not only famous for its picturesque landscape, it is also associated with many scholars, national heroes and revolutionary martyrs, and it is therefore plays an important role in many aspects of Chinese culture. In addition there are many ancient buildings, stone caves and engraved tablets in surrounding areas, and among them are some of the most cherished national treasures of China.

I wonder how everyone get together at such a very early morning specially Hangzhou’s senior citizens start their day into a positive vibe! Singing together, practice group dance , free hand exercise, yoga and Taichi (Chinese shadow boxing), playing cards, some people like to gossip together, laughing together!! its a True Reflection of hangzhou people's life, culture , traditions and reflection of happiness! The Fresh morning, sound of air, songs of nature, west lake's clean water, people's energy......Everything makes me touching and gives me positive energy for the whole day.
