For today's episode, we'll bring you to a famous attraction in Xindian, New Taipei City ~ The Bitan Scenic Area.

Bitan Scenic area is a lake famous for it's jade-like water and you can do a lot of things there. You can do boating ( you can choose from manual pedalling or automatic one). You can also do hiking, there's a trail near the suspension bridge called Hemei Trail, and you can also take pictures while walking on the suspension bridge, and many more!!!

How to get there:
Take the MRT green line (Xindian Line)in Taipei City and alight at the terminal station (Xindian Station).

Named Green Lake in Chinese, this park is a great getaway from the city. Only 40 minutes away from Taipei Main Station at the southern terminus of the MRT green line, Xindian Station (新店), this riverfront park is home to a wide variety of restaurants and is a great place to relax.

Besides the ample choices for food at the riverfront, the interior road is home to a night market selling a variety of Taiwanese and pan-Chinese snacks, called xiǎochī (小吃), as well as select favorites from all over the world.

Spanning over the Xindian River is the Bitan Suspension Bridge connecting the two neighborhoods on the east and west side of the creek, making it one of the landmarks of New Taipei City. 200 meters long, the bridge was completed in 1936, the bridge is unique in that it is illuminated by light beams that change in color, creating a random effect and mini light-show.

The area along the east bank is home to a large amount of restaurants and food shops, carnival activities, park amenities, as well as paddle boat rentals. Grab some snacks and jump in a boat with some friends!

Amazing Water Dance Light Show-Xindian Bitan New Taipei City

A series of dancing water show will take place in Bitan for 53 days starting March 9 until April 30

The new Taipei Department will be introducing a world class water show using the newest water fountain technology, using high pressure water jets that can reach up to 30 meters high, along with the newest advances in technical lighting and water nozzles for precision.

Each night from 6:00pm to 8:30pm two different music pieces will be presented as part of every performance.

Bitan Scenic Area (碧潭风景区) | Xindian District, New Taipei

Bitan (碧潭),historically called Shi-Bitan, is a tourist spot in Xindian District, New Taipei, Taiwan. Bitan literally means green lake, referring to where the Xindian River widens to form the lake. There is a well-known suspension bridge that is used only by pedestrians. The bridge can be seen on the crest of Xindian. There are many restaurants, carnival activities, and pedal boats in the area.

Bitan is one of the eight famous attractions in Taiwan which is near by MRT Xindian station and a good place for people to relax and enjoy their weekend. The Xindian River branches off the Tamsui River and winds its way through the Bitan area. There are terraces, ponds, and sand bars on both banks of the stream. This area is suitable for canoeing, fishing, barbecuing, rowing, and exploring nature. The lake's steep cliffs and aquamarine water make it one of Xindian's scenic spots. The green lake suspension bridge was renovated and reopened to public use in 2000. A park on the eastern shore contains paths and viewing stands. Floating in a boat on the lake, the reflection of the green mountains create and exquisitely beautiful scene.

How to get there?
From Taipei Main Station, MRT Red line going to Xiangshan Station and drop to CKS Memorial hall then transfer to Green line going to Xindian Station or Blue Line going to Dingpu Station and drop to Ximen Station then transfer to Green line going to Xindian Station. Bitan is located at Xindian Station(last station of Green Line). From Xindian Station,walk around 2 minutes, left side of bus station.

2:34 Not far from Zhongxiao Fuxing, you'll see a shop that sells a pastry with filling inside. I chose to go with the cream and it tasted pretty well. The name of the place is 同心圓水晶紅豆餅 and is located in: No. 133, Section 1, Fuxing South Road, Da’an District, Taipei City, Taiwan 106

3:18 Not far from the first pastry shop is another pastry shop that sells an assortment of baked goods, ranging from breads, sweet breads, pork floss/scallion breads, Q pork pie (I really don't like it), cakes, and etc. The name of the shop is Charlie Brown (查理布朗製菓) and is located in: No. 123, Section 1, Fuxing South Road, Da’an District, Taipei City, Taiwan 106

5:55 Not far from the Technology Building Station (科技大樓站) is a restaurant that serves bento box meals. I chose the one with the pork belly and the entire meal tasted amazing. I've had a few bento boxes in Taipei and I believe this one may be my favorite. The meal had so many things, such as the creamy pork belly, bean curd, spinach, lettuce, I believe Hong Kong sausage, a half boiled egg, and something sweet. It was great!

7:31 The journey to Xindian. After walking around, I finally bumped into a grand view of the hills and river. I was also surprised when I saw the Bitan Suspension Bridge. I've only been on one suspension bridge, and that was the Baishihu Suspension Bridge in Neihu (Day 3). I didn't think I would see or go on another one. The Bitan bridge felt a little more wobbly than the Baishihu, but I did enjoy walking on the bridge while being able to still be within the city. It's not too far from Xindian station. And it's around here:

10:33 After walking over the Bitan Suspension Bridge, I decided to go up Hemei Trail 和美山步道. It was a nice experience, but I didn't enjoy being on the trail as evening approached.

13:31 Once I got down from Hemei Trail, I crossed the Bitan Suspension Brdige and went direction to Xindian Road. It was evening and there were food stalls everywhere. I had a baozi from this one stall and it was amazing! Also! The lady truly could've ripped me off, as there weren't any signs that said the price of the baozi, so I gave her 30 TWD. She waved her hand and head, gave me back the 20TWD and just smiled. It was really great to see that. Now, I don't know the name of the shop and didn't find it on Google Maps. However, I found the stall that's literally right next to the baozi stall, and the name of is 古早味蔥抓餅 and the location is: No. 232, Xindian Rd, Xindian District, New Taipei City, Taiwan 231

After that, I went to a little shop and saw some awesome noodles. I pointed towards it, but I think the lady got confused, since it wasn't the same noodle dish I pointed to, plus it tasted really so-so. But I was glad to see her passion when she was telling me to try her pork with rice (zhu rou fan 滷肉飯). I can see the enthusiasm and passion in her eyes, so I had to try it. And I'm glad I did. It was amazing.

It tasted very creamy and flavorful. And I think it may be my favorite zhu rou fan so far. As for the name of the place and location, that I couldn't find. However, it's still on Xindian Road, so you shouldn't have an issue finding it. If anything, just take a screenshot of the shop from my video and that should make it easier for you to find.

Travel in Taiwan 2017/09/10

Wulai is a small indigenous settlement that can be quickly reached from central Taipei. For many decades it has been a popular day-trip destination for local residents and international visitors looking for some respite from the capital’s urban jungle. This is a great area to experience indigenous culture, do some hot-spring bathing, and take in refreshing mountain scenery. Wulai still has a host of attractions that make a trip worthwhile.

1. Wulai Old Street (02:30)
Bus No. 849 drops you off close to the northern end of Wulai Old Street, a narrow street lined with eateries and shops selling myriad indigenous specialties and souvenirs. Among the enticing foods you can try here are millet mochi, stir-fried mountain vegetables, bamboo-tube rice, millet and mountain litsea ice cream, wild-boar sausages, range chicken, millet wine, lamb chop soup, almond tea, and much more. If you are looking for souvenirs there is no shortage of indigenous-theme items, such as woven hats, purses, bags, and vests, glass bead bracelets, and also many packaged food and drink products, including mochi cakes and millet wine.

2. Atayal Culture (03:20)
The inhabitants of Wulai are mainly from the Atayal tribe, the third-largest indigenous group in Taiwan. If – apart from eating the yummy indigenous food offerings – you want to learn more about this tribe while in Wulai, visit the Wulai Atayal Museum, located close to the northern end of Wulai Old Street (No. 12, Wulai Street). The museum provides you with plenty of info in Chinese and English about the origins of the Atayal and their traditional ways of life, including sections about hunting, weaving, facial tattooing, and so on. At the Waterfall Area you also have the chance to witness song-and-dance performances by tribe members.

3. Hot-Spring Bathing (20:20)
Wulai is well known for its hot springs. The clear and odorless Wulai spring waters, about 80 degrees centigrade at their source, are rich in alkaline sodium bicarbonate and believed to have beneficial properties for your skin. While the free riverside open-air hot-spring pools, popular with experienced Taiwan soakers, were dismantled earlier this year, there is no lack of brick-and-mortar hot-spring establishments in and around the village. You can choose from upscale hot-spring resorts such as the Pause Landis Wulai, elegantly designed with private and public hot-spring facilities and offering fine-cuisine dining, to simple hot-spring hotels providing rooms with hot-spring bathtubs for less than NT$100/hour.

4. Waterfall Area (08:00)
The scene most closely associated with Wulai is Wulai Waterfall. To get there, cross the bridge at the southern end of Wulai Old Street, turn left, and follow the road along the river, which is closed to vehicles. The walk to the Waterfall Area takes about 20 minutes. The waterfall is an impressive 80 meters high, and is in full view from observation spots on the opposite (road) side of the river it feeds (Nanshi River).

5. Cable Car (08:42)
The cable cars you see crossing the river and ascending to a spot above the waterfall have been part of the Wulai scenery for 50 years now. To get to the base station, take the stairs adjacent to the Chief’s Cultural Village. The cable car (adult return ticket: NT$220) not only takes you above the waterfall, but also to the Yun Hsien Resort (yun-hsien.com.tw), a small recreation area – like the cable car built in the 1960s – where you can go for a walk among dense forest, row a boat on a small lake, and engage in other pleasantries. Included in these is the Yun Hsien Hotel, should you want to stay a night at the resort.

Getting there:
Getting to Wulai is simple and convenient. Take the MRT Songshan-Xindian Line to its southern terminal, Xindian. Then take bus No. 849 to the last stop, Wulai, which is at the car park near Wulai Old Street.
