Xinyi Public Assembly Hall (Taipei, Taiwan)
The Xinyi Public Assembly Hall is located at a corner in Taipei’s high-end Xinyi District and consists of a few low-rise houses sitting closely together. These somewhat crowded buildings chronicled the tears and joy of veterans who migrated to Taiwan in the early days. This is the former site of Taipei City’s Military Dependents’ Village, called the “Sisinan Village”.
With the increasingly fast economic growth and the rising living standard, these old houses no longer serve the needs of the residents. The City Government initially planned to rebuild them in 1999. However, through persuasion from the cultural circles, the City Government designated this premise as the Cultural Hall and Cultural Park of Xinyi District, and started operation in 2003.
The Hall consists of four symmetrical buildings. The houses that sat tightly next to each other have been converted into an open space for events and exhibitions. The premise now consists of an exhibition hall, Military Dependents’ Village Exhibition Hall, performance hall and community hall. The exterior still retains the unique low-rise and the simple, rustic style of the Military Dependents’ Village.
On weekends, the square is occupied by a creative market, agricultural market and live band. As a performance and community hall.

Shuxin Hall & Xi Ben Yuan Temple (Taipei, Taiwan)
In the Japanese city of Kyoto, the Nishi Honganji Temple (西本願寺) is a key site for the Jodo Shinshu Honganji Sect (or Pure Land Buddhism). Taipei long had its own Nishi Honganji Temple – called the Xi Ben Yuan Temple / 西本願寺 in Chinese – the sect’s temple in Taiwan. Built in 1922, it had a Hall for State Ceremonies (紫宸殿), Grand Hall (本堂大殿), urn tower, assembly hall called the “Tree Heart Hall”, (樹心會館) for lectures and other events, bell tower, and rinbansho (輪番所), or residence of the head priest. It was the largest Japanese Buddhist temple in Taiwan during the 1895-1945 Japanese colonial period.
The temple was ill-fated, however. After the end of World War Two the newly established Chinese Nationalist government on Taiwan decided to use the temple first as an army and military police headquarters, then as temporary living quarters for military personnel and civilians when the Nationalists retreated from mainland China. It was thereafter overrun by illegal buildings, and began to deteriorate. Finally, much of the place burned down in a 1975 fire.
In 2006, the city government declared the bell tower and the Tree Heart Hall official city historical relics, and in 2010 architect Xu Yuming (許育鳴) began restoration work on these relics as well as the residence of the head priest, entrance pathway, Grand Hall, and urn tower. Work was completed at the end of December 2012, and there are plans to open the site to the public in March this year. As you travel along Zhonghua Road (中華路) you can’t miss the imposing bell tower and quiet, tranquil red-brick architecture.
The bell tower’s copper bell and roof tiling were severely damaged in the 1975 fire; only the beam structure was left intact. A bronze bell made in Miaoli (苗栗) is now in place, and the plan is to restore the stately Buddhist bellsounding ceremony in the courtyard. On the left- and right-hand sides respectively are the Tree Heart Hall and rinbansho. The Tree Heart Hall’s original Chinese cypress roof framework was destroyed in the 1975 conflagration, leaving only the red-brick walls behind. The Western architectural elements that were introduced toward the end of Japan’s Taisho period have been restored, as has the Japanese-style “Tang door” (唐門) arch portal. There is a small stage inside the hall, restoring wedding and funeral scenes of yesteryear centered on well-known political and business figures. The restoration work done on the rinbansho is more complete – you’ll see wellpreserved weatherboarding on the exterior, bambooweaving mud walls in a portion of the interior, and Japanese-style ridge tiles and onigawara or ogre/demon tiles (鬼瓦) on the roof. Behind the structure is a Japanese-style courtyard that will be used as a viewing space and area for light snacks in the future.

Taipei, Taiwan - Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall HD (2017)
The National Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall (Chinese: 國立國父紀念館; pinyin: Guólì Guófù Jìniàn Guǎn; literally: National 'Father of the Nation' Memorial Hall) is located in Xinyi District, Taipei, Taiwan. It is a memorial to the Republic of China's National Father, Dr. Sun Yat-sen, and was completed in 1972. The total building area covers 29,464 square metres (7.3 acres) in an open space of 115,000 square metres (28.4 acres). It contains displays of Sun's life and the revolution he led, and is also a multi-purpose social, educational and cultural center for the public.
Zhongshan Hall (Taipei, Taiwan)
Zhongshan Hall / 中山堂 is a historical building which originally functioned as the Taipei (Taihoku) City Public Auditorium (public hall). It is located at 98 Yanping South Road in the Ximending neighborhood of the Zhongzheng District, Taipei, Taiwan. In 1992, it was recognized by the government as a historic site.
As a tribute to mark the ascension of the Japanese Emperor Showa in 1928, the Japanese government in Taiwan dismantled the Qing dynasty government office in Taipeh (Taipei) and began the plan to erect the Taihoku City Public Auditorium (臺北公會堂? Taihoku Kōkaidō). Construction began on November 23, 1932 and completed on November 26, 1936. Ide Kaoru, the main architect serving as Chief Engineer in Taiwan under the Japanese government, used the full cost of 980,000 Yen and 94,500 workers.
The four-story steel structure of the building was designed to be fire-resistant and to withstand severe earthquakes and typhoons. The original building was faced in light green tile to make it less visible to aerial bombers. The windows are adorned with classical designs in a Spanish Islamic style.[1] With 44,179 square feet (4,104.4 m2) for the ground floor, the total area of the City Public Auditorium was 113,750 square feet (10,568 m2), making it the fourth largest city Public Auditorium in Japan at that time. It was smaller than only the City Public Halls of Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya.
The hall has several auditoriums currently used for arts performances such as chamber and orchestral music, traditional Chinese music, voice/choir, opera, dance, ceremonies, and exhibits.
- Zhongzheng Auditorium: This Grand Meeting Hall was the largest indoor meeting venue at the time, seating over 2,000 people since it was created on December 27, 1936. After World War II, it was the only concert hall in Taipei. Until Zhongshan Hall in Yang-Ming Shan was completed in 1993, the National Assembly leased this hall. It is historic as Chiang Kai-Shek announced he would take office again and held his inaugural ceremony here.
- Guangfu Auditorium - The Grand Ballroom: Guangfu Auditorium is a two-story high rise hall with Islamic design and holds 500 people seated or 1,000 people unseated. This auditorium is historic as on October 25, 1945 it was the venue for the surrender ceremony of the Taiwan District of China warzone. The Japan and Taiwan governments signed the peace treaty here and the surrender of Japan was accepted here as well.
- Fortress Auditorium: In addition to indoor meeting areas, Zhongshan Hall was designed with a spacious plaza for outdoor activities. Speakers can stand on the second floor east balcony when addressing the audience on the plaza. Chiang Kai-Shek made four inaugural speeches here.

Din Tai Fung, Rahoe Night Market, & Sun Yat sen Memorial Hall (✈️Travel ????????Taiwan Series Day 1)
Day 1 of the ✈️ Travel ???????? Taiwan Series. Be part of the journey:
(Timestamps are below.)
00:15 Eating breakfast in Taipei in Zhongxiao Fuxing. The lady has a cart in which she serves up a breakfast item called fan tuan (or fantuan). She's typically there from 7am to 11am; off on weekends and sometimes when it's raining. If you'd like to take a visit and try some fan tuan, it's right next to Ten Ren's Tea in Zhongxiao E Road.
Here's the address to Ten Ren's Tea, in which you'll hopefully see the lady and her cart on the corner: No. 107號, Section 4, Zhongxiao E Rd, Da’an District, Taipei City, Taiwan 106
02:55 Heading to Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall (Here's the address: No. 505, Section 4, Ren'ai Rd, Xinyi District, Taipei City, Taiwan 110) . The area was massive. One of the things I liked the most during my time there were the vast amount of scrolls that they had on display. It was also nice to see old and preserved Chinese books, documents, and alike.
07:30 Heading to Taipei 101. The great thing about Taipei 101 is the architecture and how it stands out. It's not the tallest skyscraper in the world (though it once was, from 2004 - 2010), but it's the tallest building throughout the entire vicinity -- and by a long shot. Because of that, Taipei 101 really captures a person's attention. Especially when you see it at Elephant Mountain. From that distance, the focus is entirely on 101, nothing else. And there's something about that which makes it very special. it looks as if Taipei 101 is the only tall building.
10:39 As for Din Tai Fung, the Xiaolongbao (or soup dumplings) are absolutely amazing. One of the things I like about this place is the fact that you're able to see how the chefs make the xiaolongbao. It's a work of art. Here's the thing, they're all working at a specific rythem to make it perfect, each time. And that's fascinating. The xiaolongbao's are great, no doubt. I only wish they came in a bigger size. That would be crazy!
13:10 The name of dumpling bun shop near Zhongxiao Fuxing Exit 2 is 老蔡水煎包 and they have another location in Zhongzheng, which is here: No. 26, Xuchang St, Zhongzheng District, Taipei City, Taiwan 100
Different from Din Tai Fung's xiaolongbao, the dumpling buns at this place don't have any soup inside. Instead, they're big buns stuffed with a type of filling, such as pork. It's then put on a giant-like pan, in which they add water (maybe oil too?) to create steam and to fry the bottom of the buns. I believe it's similar to the Shengjianbao, which is popular in Shanghai. Though, not as hard. I remember I had a shengjianbao in Shanghai and almost broke my teeth from how hard it was.
19:00 Visiting Rahoe Night Market was nice. I really like the zhu rou fan (or pork with rice) that they have over there. What do you like most?
