Numerous goods are on display in this south western Chinese night market.
Goods rangefrom antique watches to Jade in all forms, lots of ladies accessories, such as combs, mirrors, bangles, fashion jewelry, hairbands;
one can find even the local flute ( watch seller playing ) some feature gold and silver hairpins.
A visit to a night market when in China is a must. One can not be but astonished about the variety of goods being sold.
The night market lies near the Mekong river, which is one of the largest rivers of the world. It s source is at 5000 meters altitude in the Tibetan Plateau.
After crossing China, Burma, Thailand, ithe mekong enters Laos and Cambodia to finally flow into the China Sea, South of Vietnam. ( Mekong Delta )
Laos, Cambodia and southern Vietnam are all benefitting from its waters. The Mekong River is central to the life of its people.
The Anam mountains in Laos are home to the Ekor Tribe.

In Cambodia you still can guess the splendor of the ancient Khmer empire in the refined ruins of a civilization that was able to create a complex system of canals and levees for intensive rice cultivation.
The delta of the 9 dragons has been given to the Mekong by the Vietnamese, at the location where the mekong finally flows into the South China Sea. In the Mekong delta fivethrousand water channels irrigate the rice fields.
Sang is the largest city in the delta, there the river ends, a family called the Li family who are prosperous fish merchants, offer insight into the hectic life of this population sustained by the Mekong River.

As a promise to my friends and relatives in Laos on my first trip there in Jan and Feb 2013, I returned to the country by bus after I got the visa in Xishuangbanna China (07/2013). My first bus trip into Laos was long but nice nonetheless since I could see its tropical-beautiful countryside and history. After 8 hour bus ride, my first stop in Laos was Luang Namtha (Luangnamta or Lanta in Chinese), a beautiful city on the Namta River: a good place for trekking. And to my surprise, the Lao people could speak English better than the Chinese.

The Water Splashing Festival is part of the three-day New Year's celebration observed by the Dai people.
2018 marks the year of 1380 on the Dai calendar. On the first two days, people get together with family and friends to sing and dance and participate in friendly dragon boat competitions. At night, they write down their New Year wishes on paper lanterns and release them along the Lancang River. The third day of the festivities is the grand finale.
