Changhua Fitzroy Gardens Running Race (Taiwan)
Today I paced my friend through a 12k at the beautiful Fitzroy Gardens in Xizhou, Changhua County (inspired by the park of the same name in Australia). It is the largest park in the plains of Taiwan. As for the race, it was scenic, flat, and had very little traffic. They a great aid station which served scrambled eggs and coffee!

Trails Behind NCUE Mountain Campus in Changhua, Taiwan
In late June (Taiwan) I have to get out early to avoid the heat. The Ba Gua Mountain trail network offers shade, lovely fauna, birds, butterflies, and the occasional lizard. I have never seen any snakes, although I am sure they are out there in the jungle. The dirt trails lead to paved paths with lots of diversions such as fruit stands, a temple, the NCUE campus, parks, bridges, etc. Most importantly, there are plenty of places to run and hike without the traffic you would see on the cities of Taiwan.
These hikes are only minutes from the center of Changhua! There is a bit of a hill climb to get to trail heads. Note: For the dirt trail behind NCUE Mountain Campus, I recommend going up (not down) on the rocky path which begins behind the right most building's parking lot (right corner) walking over some railroad ties and heading up to San-Ching Gong temple (san as in the number 3, and ching as in the Chinese character for clear. There are several paths to follow, but they all lead to the same place if you are continuing up. One goes to a power-line tower and the temple is a short distance from that.
At the temple, where there is a large bilingual map, you can access other trail loops, or take the short Forest Trail which will lead down to a macadam path to get you back to the campus. Learn the characters for Shr Da (Teacher's College) and you should be okay because there are many signs.

2017太保市花海節，將於1月22日至31日在太保市新埤里(高鐵大道約3k處，如地圖所示)展開系列活動，廣達25公頃的有機稻米專區，一眼望去即是無際的油菜田花海，其他還有波斯菊和其他花卉，顏色是層層疊疊，色彩是繽紛亮麗。今年更特別搭建有景觀台可俯瞰花海區，其他還有幸福熊、幸福教堂、彩虹花道、新太保心幸福圖騰和稻草等裝置藝術一同展出。(註一)是農曆春節期間南下返鄉的一處免費賞花景點，十足可以漫步田野間，體驗那田。

Over Half a Million Agricultural Show Visitors The 2017 Central Taiwan Agricultural Expo co-sponsored by the governments of Taichung, Changhua, Nantou and Miaoli held its grand debut earlier this month in Xizhou Park, Changhua County. Today, the total number of visitors officially exceeded half a million. A woman surnamed Li from Chiayi was lucky enough to be the 500,000th visitor and she and her family received prizes from the organizers. Mizuno Marathon Relay Race Today’s early morning drizzle did not dampen the enthusiasm of over 5000 runners taking part in the Mizuno Marathon Relay Race, which involved a challenge of running from Jinshan to Danshui and back again along the coastal highway -- with a total distance of 42 kilometers. Cross-Island Mountain Climbing Events Over 25,000 people today took part in mass mountain climbing events that were held simultaneously across 20 Taiwanese counties and cities and involved 24 different mountain hiking trails. The event sponsored by an outdoor sporting goods company was aimed at helping participants get closer to nature and mountain forests, as well as to encourage them to embrace the idea of environmental protection.
