Nyima Foundation Ganzi Tibet
Nyima Social Projects was founded by Mr. Lobsang Nima Soghatsang a Swiss-Tibetan. The Swiss Nima Foundation runs the only old age home in Ganzi (Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture Sichuan). The Nima social projects have organised sponsorships for deprived children and their families in Ganzi and the surrounding villages. Without their help, these children would have been forced to work and not have received any education at all.
I was in Eastern Tibet this year in August where I got to see the Nima Foundation in Ganzi Tibet. Miss Khyungser Tsewang (board member of Nima Foundation) who is the sister to Living Buddha HH Khyungser Trichen Rinpoche was very kind and she showed me around the place.

Description:
Day 9 Aug 2nd, 2010 Travel from Xinlong to Ganzi Xiang in Sichuan PRC
A rather sleepless night. However, since I went to bed early around 10:00pm and was able to sleep until 1:00pm, that gave me a good rest. I work on the journal and then slept some more.
We had breakfast at the hotel in Xinlong. It was very good and simple. Boiled eggs, Rice Soup, greens, pastries and some tea.
Our revised destination, since the Horse Festival was cancelled, was for Ganzi. Although, Ganzi is only 100km away it took until 3pm to reach the Kang Ba Hotel. The hotel was a pleasant surprise. A three star, the hotel had all the key parts that everyone happy. Clean rooms, hot water and a standard toilet and shower.
The drive here was totally on one lane dirt roads. There were a few points when there was pavement. The total remoteness of these villages and towns became clear. There is only one road and that road is a 3,000 meter pass. No where did I see a supper Highway in Sichuan province. So that is the whole story. Villages in the mountains connected by a single line dirt road. That explains why there are few tour buses and still fewer tourist.
Yes, we took our time with many stops to take pictures and visited a few monasteries. Generally and nice day. After checking into the hotel we had a nice dinner at the hotel and the Mary and I went for a walk around the area. While out, we were treated to a fire works display. Mostly likely do to the in recognition of the Chinese Army.

China 2010 08 05 Dege to Ganzi
Description:
Day 13 Aug 5th, 2010 Travel from Dege to Ganzi
The left early from the hotel in Dege for the drive back to Ganzi. This will be the 4th or 5th time we were to go over a mountain pass. The altitudes were are over 5,000 meters.
Before we left Dege we visited the highly regarded Buddhist monastery for printing reproductions of the ancient texts. This monastery is over 200 years old and appeared to house about 200 monks. It was pointed out that women were allowed to enter the monastery but not allowed to do any of the work. People walked clock wise around the main building. Some were just silently walking some were quietly chanting. We did one walk around and I found an immediate acceptance from the locals. Some would just smile at me and others would just give me a warm look.
Lauren continues to draw attention from the locals. She really stand out from the crowd. Today a women asked if I would take her picture with Lauren. I showed her and her husband the photo my camera. They both seemed really happy. Lauren is a real hit over here in China and particularly with the Tibetans.
After the tour of the monastery were we scheduled to go to a second monastery around 11:15am but I chose to just walk slowly back to the hotel and do a bit of shopping. The local store owners were very friendly. They were very interested when I showed them some of my Canadian money. I guess that I spent about $40 Can and was able to get four strands for interesting beans and two silk scarfs.
The drive back through the mountain pass was faster this time. We took fewer stops this time. I still can not believe how difficult these roads are to travel. I personally found the travel on the mountain passes and the road in general very draining.
We arrived in Ganzi around 7:00pm and had a nice dinner at the hotel. As short walk around the town after dinner and back to the hotel. We have a 7:30 breakfast call tomorrow and every one was very tiered.
