Communities Powered by Travel: John Day River Territory
The Communities Powered by Travel video series highlights participants in Oregon's Rural Tourism Studio training program. This robust training program was designed to assist rural communities in sustainable tourism development. In its third entry, Travel Oregon, in collaboration with Write to Know Consulting and Maser Films, checked in with some of the community members of the vast John Day River Territory to see how the previously isolated 19 communities were able to join together under one common identity. This inspiring video documents the process and their successes.

Rock Park Beach House
Reserve your stay at Rock Park Beach House today:
sweethomesrentals.com/detail.php?property=64
This lovely two story home sits on the historic Rock Park property in the heart of Yachats. Located right next to the small and lovely Yachats State Park, (which used to be called Rock Park,) this cozy little property has common grounds with an outdoor BBQ and yard furniture.
You can take the short stroll down to the rocky shoreline, or just a slightly longer walk to the sandy beach in town. This home has beautiful ocean views from both living rooms (there are two!) and the dining room, and with windows open you'll enjoy the sound of the trees rustling and the waves crashing in the distance.
The Rock Park House has all the basic amenities you'll need for your seaside getaway. There is free WiFi, two large HD flat screen TVs, a desk with an ocean view, and a mudroom. The Rock Park House does not have a washer/dryer, but you're just a short stroll from our Laundromat on Highway 101 in the middle of Yachats called the SudSea.
This home has 2 private bedrooms and 1 open bedroom; there are 2 queen beds, 1 full size bed and 1 twin wall bunk. All together the Rock Park House comfortably sleeps 7 people. We can also provide a twin Aerobed for your convenience. There are 3 bathrooms, and the master bath has a Jacuzzi tub for your enjoyment. There are 3 parking spots for guests' cars at the Rock Park House, one at the home and another two in the shared Rock Park Compound parking lot.
If you have a larger party, you might also want to rent one or more of the Rock Park Cottages or the A-Frame, too. If you rent all the buildings at Rock Park (the House, the A-frame, and all the cottages) you would be able to sleep 38 guests in housing around the common yard space. It's a wonderful house for smaller groups, and the Rock Park property is the perfect location for larger group gatherings.
Sleeps 7 - 3 Bedrooms; 2 queen beds, 1 full size bed, 1 twin wall bunk, and a twin Aerobed.
2 to 4 night minimum (seasonal and holidays).

Here's a fun family video of our trip back in April. We mainly stayed in Newport, OR and visited other places in the area. We had a blast!

Wildwood Trail - Forest Park - Portland, Oregon
Join me on a hike down the Wildwood Trail within Forest Park in Portland, Oregon. The park is much, much, bigger than what is shown. Consider this a preview of what you would experience if you decide to come visit.
At 5,157 acres, Portland's Forest Park is the largest urban forest in the United States. With more than 80 miles of soft-surface trails, fire lanes and forest roads, Forest Park stretches for more than seven miles along the eastern slope of the Tualatin Mountains, overlooking Northwest Portland and the convergence of the Columbia and Willamette Rivers. Forest Park offers an unparalleled opportunity for visitors to experience a true northwest forest without leaving the Portland city limits.
