Introduction
Laya Safari, 20 minutes away from the Tissamaharama entrance of Yala National Park in Sri Lanka's south east, is a great option for those who want to explore wildlife whilst still enjoying comfort.
Laya Safari has 20 deluxe rooms and two Thicket Villas, which are ideal for families who seek privacy, allowing them to enjoy their own space away from the main hotel area. The 20 rooms include 10 deluxe rooms and 10 family rooms with attic rooms. The villas are designed for families and are located on a cabana-style complex, housing two rooms in one and a single room villa.
The main complex includes the reception, a rooftop restaurant, bar, coffee lounge and a pool area. The cabanas are located on either side of the main complex and have views of the pool and a beautiful stretch of Kirinda beach.
Accommodation
Each cabana is complete with a king-sized bed, sitting area decorated in vibrant colours and a private balcony overlooking the beach, where guests can unwind and enjoy the sunset. The deluxe rooms can accommodate up to three people, and the attic rooms can cater for five people (with the addition of extra beds).
The ensuite bathrooms are quite spacious, including a bath as well as a separate cubicle with hot and cold water showers.
The two Thicket Villas are located next to each other, connected by a door, and can be used as one large bungalow or as two separate rooms.
Each villa can sleep up to five people (with extra beds).
Facilities
Facilities include: A/C, hot and cold water showers, free Wi-Fi, a mini bar, coffee and tea making facilities and cable TV. There is also a swimming pool with a jacuzzi, a spa and gym, a laundry service, a game room and a restaurant with BBQ facilities.

Lake View Bungalow Yala, Tissamaharama, Sri Lanka
Lake View Bungalow Yala (Formally Governors Lodge Tissamaharama), bordering the Yodha Wewa Tank, offers a large luxury bungalow for 10 people with 3 well laid out bedrooms with fans and attached toilets with hot water. The view from each bedroom is of the natural habitat surrounding the Lodge. It is a Bird Lover's Paradise, with many varieties of birds and butterflies being regular visitors to the garden.
All floor areas are tiled and the toilets are fitted with modern imported fittings. The bungalow has a high ceiling and the roof is tiled. There is a small swimming pool and a long veranda facing the flowing water of the Yodha Wewa Tank.
The Governors Lodge is built on a one acre site which is 10 minutes drive to the Yala junction and another 10 minutes from there to the Yala National Park entrance.
Governors Lodge Tissamaharama provide you with a very clean comfortable King size double bed and a folding bed in each bedroom, along with spotless white linen and pillows. We maintain very high hygienic and service standards.
Meals could be provided if notified at time of booking or the food could be prepared by our chef, if the provisions are brought.
Vehicles for Safari Tours can be arranged on request.
Lake View Bungalow Yala Location
Route Instructions to the Bungalow
1. Coming from Colombo pass through Tissamaharama Town and continue straight on the Kirinda Road.
2. Go over the bridge and then travel on the Yodhawewa Bund with the Yodhawewa Tank (water) on the left and paddy fields on the right.
3. At the end of the Bund is Yodha Kandiya which is a small bend towards the right with small boutiques on either side. Before the road gets straight again, turn left on to Sithulpawwa Road at the bend. (Don’t turn left on to the road at the end of the Tank leading to a Temple).
4. Just as you turn left on to the Sithulpawwa Road, immediately take the first turn to the left with sign board Wanamal Guest House. Travel straight on this road keeping to your right whenever there is a road towards the left. It is approx. 1 Km (5 minutes drive) from here to the bungalow.
5. Pass Wapi written on the wall on the left side, and continue straight passing a yard with old vehicles on the right side.
6. The bungalow is at No. 59 on the left with multicoloured Bougainvillea flowers along the front boundary of the property.

Yoda Wewa at Tissamaharama Sri Lanka – යෝධ වැව
Yodha Wewa (The Giant Tank) in Tissamaharama should not be confused with the Yodha Wewa in Mannar District. It is believed that this tank was built by King Mahanaga in the late 3rd Century BC and the Duratissa Wewa mentioned in the ancient texts is the current Yodha Wewa in Tissamaharama.
According to historical records, King Illanga carried out expansion work on this tank in the 1st century BC and much later, the King Prakramabahu (1153-1186) has carried out repairs to this tank.

The Temple of Kirinda - Yala National Park, Sri Lanka
In this episode David travels to the coastal Sri Lankan town of Kirinda. Here he visits a Temple that helps to protect people from the sea, it contains many beautiful sculpture, paintings, and shrines. The temple was originally built by a King who dedicated it to his mother, and it contains images of them, as well as incredible views of the surrounding coast.

Mahoora - Yala, Yala, Sri Lanka
Mahoora is Movable Tented Safari Camps that would be pitched up on selected locations of the prime wild life parks in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka's wildlife parks are home to the big four beasts: Elephant, Leopard, Wild Buffalo and Sloth Bear. In addition to these mammals, the reserves are vibrant with populations of deer, sambhur and birdlife. The birdlife consists of variety of endemic and migratory birds. Also found at the lakes of the park are crocodiles.
Mahoora brings about a truly luxury camping experience with right royal treatment to all its guests in the wilderness with a dash of indigenous touch.

Wilpattu is home to mammals including elephant, leopard, deer and sambhur. Wilpattu is also populated by a wide array of birds.

◘ Sithulpawwa Rahamaha Viharaya
Sithulpawwa Rajamaha Viharaya is an ancient Buddhist monastery located in Hambantota District, South Eastern Sri Lanka. Situated 18 km east of the pilgrimage town Katharagama, it is believed to have been built in the 2nd century B.C by king Kavantissa.Sithulpawwa Vihara can be reached by travelling 18 miles along the Tissamaharama-Yodhakandiya road towards the Yala National Park. The name Sithulpawwa is derived from the word Chiththala Pabbatha, which means the hill of the quiet mind.This ancient monastery with a history over 2200 years, was a place of worship for devotees as well as a center of Buddhist education for Buddhist monks. Paintings of the Anuradhapura era and the ruins of stone Buddha images, Bodhisattva images, Image Houses, Circular Relic Houses are spread throughout the monastery premises. The present chief incumbent of Sithulpawwa Rajamaha Vihara is Ven. Metaramba Hemarathana Nayake Thera.
◘Muthiyangana Rajamaha Viharaya
History of this site starts with the Lord Buddha’s 3rd arrival to the island but legends on the area called Badulla begins from 19th – 18th century BC. Some names of places in the area, e.g. Seetha Eliya, Seetha Kotuwa, Ravana Ella, etc., refers to the Seetha and Ravana - the main characters in the Indian episode titled Ramayana. So it is believed that said war had taken place in this locale, where was the capital of then powerful king named Ravana who ruled the island.Buddhists believe that this site has been visited by Gautama Buddha, and it is regarded as one of the Solosmasthana, the 16 sacred places in the country. On the 8th year after attaining the Enlightenment, the Lord Buddha made His 3rd visit to Kelaniya on the invitation by a king of Naga people named Maniakkitha. During this visit, a local chieftain named Indaka invited Lord Buddha to visit his place in Badulla. At the end of sermons made by Lord Buddha there, Indaka had wanted something to worship in memory of Lord Buddha's visit. The Lord Buddha is said to have given him a few of His hairs and a few drops of sweat that turned into pearls (mukthaka). Indaka had enshrined these sacred hair and pearls in a stupa, believed to be the stupa here.ndaka, the chieftain of then Deva people is now regarded as a deity, reigning the Namunukula mauntain rangeand Muthiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya.
◘Demodara Railway Loop
Demodara railway station is the third last station on the Main Line, and is 277.71 km (172.56 mi) away from Colombo. It is located 912.5 m (2,994 ft) above mean sea level and 8 km (5.0 mi) from Badulla, the capital city of Uva Province. All the trains that run on the Main Line, including the Podi Menike and Udarata Menike express trains stop at the station.The station is most notable for its spiral rail line at this location, popularly known as the 'Demodara Loop'. The rail line passes under itself, going around the loop and emerging from a tunnel, which runs directly beneath the Demodara railway station. The rail loop is approximately 900 metres (3,000 ft) long and the tunnel is 320 m (1,050 ft) in length. It is considered the only loop in the world with a railway station situated exactly over a tunnel at spiral loop. During the construction of the rail extension to Badulla the engineers and surveyors found that elevation between the hills at Demodara was too much for the track to negotiate, with the maximum inclination allowed by the Ceylon Government Railway being one foot per 44 feet (1/44), an innovative track design had to be devised.
◘Nine Arch Bridge
The Nine Arch Bridge (Sinhala: ආරුක්කු නමයේ පාලම,) also called the Bridge in the Sky, is a viaduct bridge in Sri Lanka. It is one of the best examples of colonial-era railway construction in the country.[4] The construction of the bridge is generally attributed to a local Ceylonese builder, P. K. Appuhami, in consultation with British engineers The chief designer and project manager of the 'upcountry railway line of Ceylon' project was D. J. Wimalasurendra, a distinguished Ceylonese engineer and inventor. The designer of the viaduct was Harold Cuthbert Marwood of Railway Construction Department of Ceylon Government Railway. The 1923 report titled Construction of a Concrete Railway Viaduct in Ceylon published by the Engineering Association of Ceylon has details of all the records including the plans and drawings. It is located in Demodara, between Ella and Demodara railway stations. Popular rumours suggest that when construction work commenced on the bridge, the Great War began between the empires of Europe and the steel assigned for this site was reallocated to Britain's War related projects at the battlefront. As a result, the work came to a standstill, leading the locals to build the bridge with stone bricks and cement, but without steel.
