Ji'an Yalu River Bridge along the Sino-North Korean border
The Ji'an Yalu River Border Railway Bridge is a single-track railway bridge that spans the Yalu River and connects the outskirts of the Chinese town of Ji'an in Jilin Province with the North Korean town of Manp'o in Chagang Province.
Opening of bridge linking N. Korea and China delayed indefinitely: Chinese state
Once rosy relations between North Korea and China have soured since Kim Jong-un assumed power in the North a few years ago.
And in a clear indication of the frayed ties, a multi-million dollar bridge... that was supposed to boost trade between the two countries... stands unused well after its scheduled opening date.
Park Ji-won tells us more.
This is the New Yalu River Bridge,... linking the northeastern Chinese city of Dandong to North Korea′s border city of Sinuiju.
The 3-kilometer-long structure was scheduled to open late last month,... but Chinese state media reports the opening has been pushed back indefinitely.
China footed the entire cost of the 350-million U.S. dollar project,... expecting the bridge to boost bilateral trade.
But after four years of work,... facilities and roads linking the bridge into the border cities remain unfinished.
Satellite images taken in September also show that North Korea hasn′t started building customs facilities.
Compared to pictures taken in October of last year,... we see no improvements at all.
In fact,... some buildings have been torn down during the time.
China and North Korea delayed laying roads linking the bridge to the cities because Beijing is not happy with Pyongyang′s nuclear programs and North Korea is unhappy with its current relationship with Beijing. I don′t think the bridge will open until the latter half of next year.
Watchers say the hold up completing the bridge,... which was supposed to handle some 80 percent of goods passing between both countries,... reflects the sour relations between the once strong allies.

Songhua River/Harbin-China:
The Songhua River (Chinese pinyin: Sōnghuā Jiāng) is the largest tributary of the Heilong River. It ranks the fifth longest river in China, runs about 1,897 kilometers long and covers a drainage area of 545,600 square kilometers. The source of the river is a crater lake called Heavenly Lake with an elevation of 2,189 meters at the top of the Changbai Mountain, which borders North Korea in China’s Jilin Province. The water falls down from the Heavenly Lake and forms a waterfall, as if the water rushes down from heaven. Hence the local Manchu inhabitant called it Songga-liwula (means Heavenly Lake). It is considered that its Chinese name Songhua is from its Manchurian pronunciation - Songga-liwula.
The river is 4 meters in depth and 1 kilometer in width on average in Harbin reach. Songhua River has more than 900 branches in large and small size. The river is frozen over from November to April the next year.
As the largest branch of the Heilong River, Songhua River winding through Harbin for 117 kilometers and served as an important artery for the development of the city. In the 17th century, under the reign of Emperor Kangxi, naval ships were stationed along these areas, and resisted the invading Russian enemy successfully. After that, in 1689, Sino-Russian Treaty of Nerchinsk was signed. That is the first border agreement between the Qing government and the imperial Russian government. On June 6th, 1898, a Russia warship taken on the engineers and surveyors to made a topographic map for building the China-East Railway. There landing point is where the Flood Control Monument located now. From then on, the river became busy and lots of material needed for build the railway were transported through this River and then, a modern city was erected at the south bank of Songhua River.
Three big bridges have been built over the river, and one of them connected the south bank of Harbin and Sun Island was built in 1983 and opened to traffic in 1986. This bridge approach or the leading bridge on the south bank of the Songhua River was designed to have two circles. So the whole bridge was like a scissors and the bridge approach is like the scissors’ handle.
The Songhua River in winter is no less bustling than a summer bathing beach. It's frozen hard with ice nearly one meter thick, turning it into a huge playground for all kinds of ice sports. You can go swimming, skating and ice sailing, or ride in ice junks or horse-drawn sleighs.

STORYLINE
China's foreign minister called North Korea's ambassador in for a dressing-down and demanded his country cease making further threats, in a show of Beijing's displeasure over its ally's latest nuclear test.
Yang Jiechi delivered a stern representation to Ji Jae Ryong on Tuesday and expressed China's strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to the test, the ministry said in a statement posted to its website.
In Dandong, an enclave in northern China that faces North Korea right across the Yalu river, it was a slow day on Wednesday.
Soldiers of the People's Liberation Army patrolled the riverside, a few vendors tried to lure tourists with their North Korean-themed souvenirs and a handful of visitors strolled in the wide promenade near the remains of a broken bridge.
Known among locals as the short bridge after it was bombarded, the landmark is kept as a reminder of how Chinese troops aided the neighbouring communist army during the Korean war (1950-1953).

Multi-billion dollar railway to run through ROK and DPRK
The ROK has outlined a multi-billion dollar rail infrastructure project it would like to roll out in the DPRK if relations can be re-kindled. It could help boost the economy as well as link the south to the rest of the world by rail. CGTN’s Jack Barton took a train ride on a line that would form the first link if the project happens.

Liaoning
Liaoning is a province of the People's Republic of China, located in the northeast of the country. The modern province was established in 1907 as Fengtian or Fengtien province and the name was changed to Liaoning in 1929. It was also known as Mukden province at the time, for the Manchu pronunciation of Shengjing, the former name of the provincial capital Shenyang. Under the Japanese puppet Manchukuo regime, the province reverted to its 1907 name but the name Liaoning was restored in 1945 and again in 1954.
Liaoning is the southernmost part of Manchuria, the Chinese Northeast. It is also known in Chinese as the Golden Triangle from its shape and strategic location, with the Yellow Sea (Korea Bay and Bohai Sea) in the south, North Korea's North Pyongan and Chagang provinces in the southeast, Jilin to the northeast, Hebei to the southwest, and Inner Mongolia to the northwest. The Yalu River marks its border with North Korea, emptying into the Korea Bay between Dandong in Liaoning and Sinuiju in Korea.

DPRK, ROK to start joint inspection of cross-border railways
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Republic of Korea (ROK) are expected to start inspections on how to re-connect railroads across their border this week, government officials said on Sunday.
The Koreas are known to be discussing ways to conduct the inspection of the Gyeongui line starting late this week, reported Yonhap on Sunday citing a government source. Seoul said they will soon begin field surveys of the western Gyeongui railway, and next month, it'll focus on a railway along the eastern coast.

북, 김정은 시대 국정목표 '경제, 핵'
The North's ruling party has laid out the country's two fundamental goals and one of them doesn't bode well for the chance of denuclearizing the Korean peninsula.
Pyongyang says it wants to achieve economic development and boost its nuclear capabilities.
Park Ji-won reports.
The central committee of the North Korean Workers' Party unanimously adopted a statement on Sunday, that said the North will focus on its nuclear capabilities, and economic development to become a great strong nation.
During its plenary session, the committee said, the Kim Jong-un regime will not give up its nuclear weapons, and the North will keep developing its nuclear program, until the whole world becomes denuclearized.
It added North Korea will not respond to any talks demanding unilateral nuclear disarmament, as its nuclear capabilities are its key defensive power.
The country also aims to build up its economy, to stabilize the livelihoods of its people, by focusing on agriculture and light industry.
The workers' party also said the country will diversify its international trade and attract more investment.
Experts say the announcement could be an attempt to quell growing public discontent over the nation's unbalanced focus on its military expenses.
However, experts added North Korea's economic goals will not be achieved easily, as the country is already under some tight economic sanctions, due to its nuclear and long-range missile test.
The statement specifying its two key strategic goals came a day after North Korea declared on Saturday that the two Koreas were in a state of war.
North Korea has been escalating its level of threats since South Korea and the United States started their annual joint military drills.

SUMMARY
=======
Jilin (吉林; formerly romanized as Kirin or Chilin) is one of the three provinces of Northeast China. Its capital and largest city is Changchun. Jilin borders North Korea (Rasŏn, North Hamgyong, Ryanggang and Chagang) and Russia (Primorsky Krai) to the east, Heilongjiang to the north, Liaoning to the south, and Inner Mongolia to the west. The name Jilin translates to Auspicious Forest in Chinese, and originates from girin ula, a Manchu phrase meaning along the river.
The Manchu people once inhabited the area of Jilin, thus making Jilin part of the historical region of Manchuria. The area had been heavily contested, successively falling under the rule of the non-Han states of Xiongnu, Xianbei state, Khitan Liao Dynasty, the Jurchen Jin Dynasty, and the Mongol Yuan dynasty. With the adoption of Han culture and the Chinese languages by the Manchu people, the Manchu language is considered a critically endangered language. Koreans comprise about 4% of the population, owing to its proximity to the Korean Peninsula. The majority of the province speaks Mandarin.
Along with the rest of Northeast China, Jilin underwent an early period of industrialization. However, Jilin's economy, characterized by heavy industry, has been facing economic difficulties with privatization. This prompted the central government to undertake a campaign called Revitalize the Northeast. The region contains large deposits of oil shale.
Vidurashwatha (ವಿದುರಾಶ್ವತ್ಥ) : Jallianwala Bagh of the South
Vidurashwatha (Kannada:ವಿದುರಾಶ್ವತ್ಥ) is a small village located in the Gauribidanur taluk of Chikkaballapur district in the state of Karnataka, India. Situated near the Karnataka - Andhra Pradesh border and about 6 km from Gauribidanur, it had a major role to play in the freedom movement of India. The name Vidurashwatha is derived from that of a big Ashwatha (Ficus religiosa) tree located in this village. According to a legend of the times of Mahabharata, this tree was planted by Vidura, a courtier in the kingdom of Dhritarashtra; and hence the name Vidurashwatha. Unfortunately, in 2001, this ancient tree fell to the ground. There is also Naga Devatha Temple which is as old as the tree, here people do the prathishtapana of the naga god, to fulfil their desires, like having child, do better in business etc., the pooja here is done to alleviate all problems concerned with Naga dosha.
