Yamagata Station (山形駅 Yamagata-eki) is a railway station in Yamagata, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan, operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East).

The station has a Midori no Madoguchi staffed ticket office and a View Plaza travel agency.
Yamagata Station opened on 11 April 1901. With the privatization of JNR on 1 April 1987, the station came under the control of JR East.
Yamagata Shinkansen services started on 1 July 1992. From 4 December 1999, Yamagata Shinkansen services were extended to Shinjō Station.
In fiscal 2012, the station was used by an average of 10,860 passengers daily (boarding passengers only). The passenger figures for previous years are as shown below.

bodies in top condition. There are plenty of sights to see as well, including Kikuchi Gorge, and the Yachiyoza Theater,
which often features exhibitions of traditional dance and performing arts. In addition to that, you can also enjoy
delicious food like Tamana Ramen.

Japanese Taiko Drummers - Walking in Japan 日本の太鼓ドラマー - 日本でのウォーキング
One of our local drumming groups performing in downtown Shizuoka city, Japan. This particular group includes many school age kids. Drums are called taiko in Japan where drumming has a long tradition within the spheres of entertainment, religion and warfare. The Japanese have produced several distinct drum styles of various sizes, most of which are played with a stick (though hand drums are also used). Traditional drummers may perform alone or in the company of wind and string musicians. Ensemble style taiko performances called kumi-daiko (as seen in this video) are a relatively recent development in the world of Japanese drumming and a style which has gained the attention of many outside Japan. Kumi-daiko performances are typically very impressive with numerous drummers beating out distinct rhythms on various sized taiko. The drummers can produce deep, resonant tones which carry for long distances and produce an unforgettable and almost visceral experience in the hearer. Taiko drum heads are made of cowhide dried and tightly stretched before being attached to the drum by iron nails (byou-uchi daiko style) or sewn onto iron rings (tsukushime-daiko style). Drum heads may be used for several years before needing to be re-stretched, though the cowhide is normally discarded after one or two stretches. Most Japanese drums are formed from the limb or even the trunk of the Japanese Elm (keyaki) tree while other types of wood are also sometimes used. Especially large drums may have been made from ancient trees (up to 1200 years old!) which are thought to imbibe the drum with a spiritual significance and presence.

The Path of Wildness is easy to find
The course of a stream
Leaves blown in the wind

And the direction of our first inclination
The Path of Wildness is an answer and response to a prescribed way of life which may leave some individuals with a sense that their living is little more than a series of pre-determined, step-like episodes between birth and death. The stages of living between these events: childhood, adolescence, adulthood, parenthood and senior are themselves natural and in accord with the needs of the species and most individuals. Many find their satisfaction in living this course and to these individuals I have little or nothing to say. Others though long for something more; something innate, genetic and seemingly calling. Adventure and change can give a degree of satisfaction and relief yet even these may seem too tame. To those who feel drawn to something beyond the entertainment and stimulation of senses I offer a walk along The Path of Wildness. Don't bother penciling the event in your schedule, preparing a pack with goodies and supplies or even inviting a friend along, for this experience is along the course of your first inclination and you must surely always go alone.

[020] Yamaguchi St Francis Xavier Memorial Church
The St. Francis Xavier Memorial Church (サビエル記念聖堂) was built in honor of the Jesuit missionary Francis Xavier. Francis Xavier was a fundamental member in spreading Christianity to Asia in the 1500s. Seven years after the first Europeans arrived in Japan, Francis organized a mission from Kagoshima to Kyoto. It was at this time Francis Xavier spent a few months in Yamaguchi, a city forever dear in his heart.
The original church was constructed in 1952 but fell victim to a fire in 1991. The current, beautiful building was reconstructed in 1998. Visitors are given to the opportunity to roam through the church, appreciating the beautiful contemporary interior. With light pouring in from the stained windows, it is the perfectly place to feel a spiritual connection.
There is a museum on the first floor where visitors can see Christian paintings, statues, medallions, clothing and other religious items from the past. In addition, old maps detailing the spread of Christianity in Japan as well as those showing the route of Xavier's travels are on display.
Hours: 9:00 to 17:00
Closed: The Church is opened all year round. However, the museum is close on Wednesdays (if a national holidays falls on a Wednesday, the museum will be closed the following day)
Admission: Admission into the Church is free; however, donations are encouraged.
There is 300 yen admission fee into the museum.

The St. Francis Xavier Memorial Church stands about 1.3 kilometers northwest of Yamaguchi Station.

**Bicycle can be rented outside the station (300 yen for two hours or 700 yen for the whole day)

I met up with my good friend Aleksi Himself and we weaved out way through all the stalls and attractions. We got to encounter some cool Japanese culture and some fun Japanese people.
