Walking distance from Yamagata’s amazing Somaro Tea House and its gorgeous Maiko, you will find in the city of Sakata and the Homma Art Museum Garden. Built in 1813 by the fourth head of the Homma clan, the property includes the actual main house, the Seienkaku, as well as the magnificent Kakubu-en or “Dancing Crane garden”.
Turned into a museum in 1947, with a dedicated wing build for that very purpose, the Seienkaku used to host many dignitaries including members of the Sakai and Uesugi clans, lords of the Shōnai and Yonezawa Domains, as well as in 1925 the future Shōwa emperor. Also, it is interesting to note that the second storey had been added in 1908 in advance of a planned visit by the future Taishō emperor.

地元の原土を用い、主に轆轤(ろくろ)成形による手作業によって製造を行っています。
釉薬は山形の雪景色を思わせる白色の《残雪》と、原土の鉄分を活かし梨地の様な風合いに仕上げた《梨青瓷》を特徴としています。

Kajo Park was built on the site of Kajo Castle which had been originally constructed in 1357. Selected as one of Japan`s Top 100 Castles, the surviving outer citadel has been recognized as a National Historic Site. Within its 35.9ha, you will see many cultural facilities including Yamagata Civic Hall, Yamagata Prefectural Museum, and the Yamagata Museum of Art. There is a splendid display of cherry blossoms in mid-April.

Studio Sedic Shonai Open Set - Yamagata - スタジオセディック 庄内オープンセット - 4K Ultra HD
Originally built and still used as a movie set for may samurai productions, the Open Set of the studio Sedic Shonai in Yamagata in northern Japan is a unique attraction worth checking!
There you will find a 350m wide and 2km long set with roughly 40 buildings. Included are a post town, fishing, farming and mountain villages, and many other structures. There is the opportunity to rent costumes, practice sword fighting, archery and horse riding (booking in advance necessary). Perfect to bring back some amazing memories of your time in Japan!

Dewa Sanzan (出羽三山) which literally means: the three mountains of Dewa, are sacred mountains in Yamagata Prefecture, each with a shrine on or near its peak including Haguro-San representing birth, Gas-san representing death and Yudono-san representing rebirth.
At the center of Dewa Sanzan worship, you will find the Shugendo religion based on mountain worshiping blending both Buddhism and Shinto traditions. Shugendo practitioners are called Yamabushi where feats of endurance are parts of their worshiping.
Unlike other temples of Dewa Sanzan, the Haguro-san top temple is accessible by car and as such it’s not only the first visited temple of them all but also the most popular! However, to appreciate the beauty of Haguro-san, it is advised, like we did, to climb the 2446 stairs to arrive on top of the mountain and enjoy the 33 figures carved into the stone steps. There enjoy the magnificent five-storied pagoda, erected in 937, located at the base of the mountain and hidden in a dense forest.
Haguro-san's main shrine holds the deities from all three Dewa Sanzan shrines, making it the most important of them all. Sanjin Gosaiden, the main building, features the thickest thatched roof in Japan with, according to the temple owners, a thickness of over two meters!

Dewa Sanzan (出羽三山), qui signifie littéralement “les trois montagnes sacrées de Dewa, sont bel et bien trois montagnes sacrées de la préfecture de Yamagata. Chacune d’elle est accompagnée d’un sanctuaire au sommet, ou tout près, qui sont Haguro-san représentant la naissance, Gas-san pour la mort, et Yudono-san évoquant la re-naissance.
Le culte gravitant autour de Dewa Sanzan provient de la religion Shugendo, un culte propre aux montagnes, unissant les traditions Bouddhistes et Shinto. Les pratiquants du Shugendo, les Yamabushi, sont en quête de l’exploit et de l’endurance.
Contrairement au temple de Dewa Sanzan, le temple de Haguro-san est accessible en voiture est est le plus visité et le plus populaire! Cependant, afin d'apprécier la beauté de Haguro-san, il est conseillé, comme nous l’avons nous-même fait, de grimper les 2446 marches pour se rendre au sommet tout en profitant des 33 statues gravées dans la roche ainsi que la magnifique pagode de 5 étages érigée en 937, et située à la base de la montagne dissimulant une forêt dense.
Le sanctuaire principal de Haguro-san possède les divinités des trois sanctuaires de Dewa Sanzan, ce qui le rend plus important que les autres. Sanjin Gosaiden, la bâtiment principal, a le toit de chaume le plus épais du Japon, une épaisseur de 2 mètres d'après les propriétaires du temple!

Odoriko no Sato Museum - Oshima Tokyo Island - 踊り子の里資料館 - 4K Ultra HD
Just a few minutes walk from Kyujinnomaru Tei, a traditional Japanese ryokan turned into an open museum (See the previous video), Odoriko no Sato is another free and open to all museum. It’s dedicated to Oshima Islands famous Odoriko or “Dancing girls”. The profession was popularly depicted in the past by the late Kawabata Yasunari, who won the Nobel Prize for Literature, in one of his most famous novels: The Dancing Girl of Izu or in Japanese: 伊豆の踊子 Izu no Odoriko.
Active during the 1900s, this ryokan, now turned into a museum, gives you the chance to travel back in time and enjoy how such ryokan used to entertain people a hundred years ago!

A seulement quelques minutes à pied depuis Kyujinnomaru Tei, un Ryokan traditionnel transformé en musée (voir la vidéo précédente), Odoriko no Sato est encore un de ces musées ouvert à tous et gratuit, dédié cette fois à la célébrité d’Oshima ; Odoriko, ou “Les danseuses”. Profession majestueusement représentée par le passé par Kawabata Yasunari, qui remporte le prix Nobel de littérature avec l’un de ses romans les plus importants : Les danseuses d’Izu, ou en japonais : 伊豆の踊子 Izu no Odoriko.
En activité en 1900, ce Ryokan désormais musée vous donne la chance de voyager dans le passé et de profiter des divertissements que proposaient de tels ryokan un siècle auparavant !

The Kawasaki Ki-61 Hien (飛燕, flying swallow) is a Japanese World War II fighter aircraft used by the Imperial Japanese Army Air Service. The Japanese Army designation was Army Type 3 Fighter (三式戦闘機).
It was the only mass-produced Japanese fighter of the war to use a liquid-cooled inline V engine. Over 3,000 Ki-61s were produced.
