Without China's Help, Japan Cannot Achieve Pacifism: Japanese Politician
Without Chinese people's tolerance and help, Japan cannot achieve post-war pacifism, said the leader of the Japanese government coalition's junior partner New Komeito party during his visit to China on Tuesday.
Natsuo Yamaguchi, leader of the New Komeito party, made the statement when visiting the Museum of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression after arriving in China's capital Beijing on Tuesday morning for a four-day visit.
We must not forget the historical truth. Without Chinese people's tolerance and significant efforts in offering Japan help, Japan's pacific development after the war was unable to be achieved. I hope we will continue to review this history for creating a better future and achieving common development of China and Japan. Meanwhile, based on this understanding, we will keep our words of refusing to repeat the tragedy of war, said Yamaguchi.
The visiting Japanese delegation led by Yamaguchi viewed the exhibited photos recording the Japanese aggressors' war atrocities they perpetrated during Japan's aggression and watched the narrated slideshows of historical events such as the Lugou Bridge Incident, which marks the start of Japan's aggression against China in 1937.
(The exhibition) impressed us with the joint efforts made by Chinese people and other peoples around the world to resist the Japanese imperialists. It eventually led to the end of the war. Meanwhile, we can tell from the exhibition that leaders of China and Japan kept close communication after the normalization of diplomatic relations between the two countries. So we hope the leaders of the two countries will continue high-level exchanges to create a better prospect for the growth of bilateral relations, said Yamaguchi.
Ending the museum tour, Yamaguchi wrote a calligraphy in Japanese reading bear history in mind, vow to maintain peace, create the future to express his expectation of a better bilateral relations between China and Japan.
Yamaguchi will attend an Asian political parties' meeting on China's silk road initiative and meet with the head of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in the following three days.

Figurines that fall like leaves and disappear
Keep calling
Is it real? Is it real?
Dark machines that wheeze and breathe and mock the air
Appalling
What is real? What is real?
This world can really be too much
I can't take another day
I guess that I've just had enough
My mind's slipping far away
I'm falling in and out of touch
Could someone please explain?
Set my mind for open sky, but couldn't fly
So sadly
What am I? What am I?
Sullen eyes shed teardrop lies and criticize
Now laughing
What is real? What is real?
It's really all become too much
I'm not sure how I should feel
I guess I've finally had enough
I don't know if this is real
I'm crashing in and out of touch
Can anyone explain?
The Laughing Man & Individual Eleven
The series takes place in the year 2030 and 2032, where many people have become cyborgs with prosthetic bodies. Primarily set in the fictional Japanese city of Niihama, Niihama Prefecture (新浜県新浜市 Niihama-ken Niihama-shi/New Port City), the series follows the members of Public Security Section 9, a special-operations task-force made up of former military officers and police detectives, while the group investigates various crimes, both seasons feature ongoing investigations into two incidents that embroil the group in corruption within other branches of the Japanese government.
In 2024, the terrorist incident known as The Laughing Man Incident occurred in which Ernest Serano, president of the groundbreaking micromachine company, Sereno Genomics, was kidnapped and ransomed. One day, the case having remained unsolved for six years, Detective Yamaguchi, who has been investigating The Laughing Man Incident, sends word that he wants to meet with Togusa from Public Safety Section 9. However, soon after sending this message, Yamaguchi, crucial to the success of the case, dies in an accident. Many days pass and in the midst of a police interview relay concerning suspicions behind interceptors, a forewarning is received from The Laughing Man of his next crime. The incorporeal hacker begins to move once again...
Two years have passed since the Laughing Man Incident was solved. About 3 million refugees are living in Japan, invited to fill the labor shortage. However, the emergent presence of the invited-refugees intensified their confrontation with the Individualists, who called for national isolation, which then led to the increased incidences of terrorist attacks. Under these circumstances, a terrorist group called the Individual Eleven carries out a suicide attack. But there was a greater scheme behind their action. When Section 9 learns this, they attempt to nail down the mastermind of the incident.
Meanwhile, Kuze, a surviving member of the Individual Eleven, becomes a charismatic leader of the invited-refugees and intensifies the confrontation against the government. And Motoko starts feeling a strange sense of fate connecting her with Kuze...

BONN – Japan won UNESCO World Cultural Heritage status for 23 of its modern industrial sites after conceding to South Korea’s demand that the registration make clear some of the locations used forced laborers from the Korean Peninsula.
At Sunday’s UNESCO committee meeting, Japanese representative Kuni Sato acknowledged Koreans “were brought against their will and were forced to work under severe conditions” at some of the Japanese industrial sites.
Sato said a large number of people from the Korean Peninsula were forced to work at some of the facilities against their will during the 1940s.
Sato also said Japan is prepared to take steps to remember the victims, including setting up an information center.
In addition to the “Sites of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution,” eight historical sites in South Korea, including the Gongsan-Seong Fortress of the Baekje Dynasty, will be added to the list.
The committee made the decision at a meeting in Bonn, Germany, on the facilities in eight Japanese prefectures, which represent Japan’s industrialization over just 50 years in the late 19th to early 20th centuries by rapidly adopting Western technologies.
South Korea had for years opposed Japan’s UNESCO bid, saying it overlooks Koreans’ suffering at seven of the sites, including a mine on Hashima island nicknamed “Battleship Island.”
South Korea’s backing for Japan at UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee meeting in Germany boosts momentum for a thaw in relations between the two neighbors. Their leaders last month exchanged visits to each other’s embassy on the 50th anniversary of a treaty normalizing ties.
At meeting June 21 of their foreign ministers, Japan and South Korea reached a basic agreement to cooperate on heritage listings of each other’s sites.
The UNESCO committee had been scheduled to decide on the new listings on Saturday, but postponed any decision to Sunday to give Japan and South Korea time to coordinate their positions.
The Japanese sites approved Sunday include the Hashima Coal Mine in Nagasaki, known as “Battleship Island,” and some facilities that are still at least partly in operation, such as the Nagasaki shipyard.
Next year the committee will consider whether to add churches and other Christian locations in Nagasaki and Kumamoto prefectures. In the past two years, both Mount Fuji and the Tomioka Silk Mill were added to the list of World Heritage sites.
The council also asked Japan to report on measures to preserve Hashima and other deteriorating facilities by Dec. 1, 2017.
Historical tensions stemming from Japan’s 1910-1945 colonial rule of the Korean Peninsula have undermined ties between the two U.S. allies in recent years, weighing on their trade and strategic cooperation. South Korean President Park Geun-hye has refused to hold a bilateral summit with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe until Japan does more for Korean females forced into sexual servitude for Japanese soldiers during the war. Some of the former “comfort women” are threatening to sue Abe in the U.S. if Japan and South Korea fail to reach a satisfactory deal for compensation.

USA: WASHINGTON: EXHIBITION OF IMPERIAL JAPANESE ART
English/Nat
An exhibition of Imperial Japanese art never before seen outside Japan is on display in Washington D-C.
The 56 priceless paintings and 20 works of calligraphy are at the Smithsonian's Freer Gallery of Art in honour of the Asian art museum's 75th anniversary next year.
The exhibition shows the differing tastes and patronage of Japanese emperors who owned the works from the ninth to the 20th century.
Japanese Emperor Akihito donated 15 works from his personal collection to this first major overseas presentation of the extensive imperial art collection.
The American curators have worked on Twelve Centuries of Japanese Art from the Imperial Collection since 1995 with the Imperial Household Agency and the Japanese government.
Sakuma Bungo's dramatic Wake no Kiyomaro Imparting Doctrine to the Empress Regnant depicts a famous historical subject of a loyal courtier giving a divine message to the empress.
Bungo uses classical European painting techniques and this painting was considered his most acclaimed.
James Ulak, a curator at the Freer Gallery, could hardly be more excited to have the precious works on display.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
This is an extraordinary exhibition, it's unprecedented. The fact that the Imperial Household Agency and the Emperor of Japan have agreed to release this amount of material for a public exhibition has never happened before.
SUPER CAPTION: James Ulak, Freer Gallery curator
The exhibit opens with a large pair of folding screens with classical scenes from 'The Tale of the Genji,' a famous 11th century novel by Murasaki Shikibu.
This pair of screens is traditionally attributed to preeminent painter of the Momoyama period, Kano Eitoku.
One of the show's highlights is this unusual pair of eight-sided panel screens which symbolise a period of interaction between Japan and Europe in the late 16th century.
The screens, which show a world map with twenty eight cities, eight leaders and multiple depictions of other cultures, are based on a copperplate map designed by Willem Janszoon Blaeu in 1607.
Described as 'namban art' (meaning southern barbarian), the screens were believed to be painted by Japanese artists in a Jesuit art school using European techniques and paints.
One cartouche shows a scene of Brazilian cannibalism - with limbs roasting on a fire.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
You see such cities, not only as London, Paris and Venice but quite obscure places: Cusco in Peru, Mexico City and Calcutta and Mozambique. The mix is totally serendipitous and delightful and I think it is one of the most intriguing paintings in the exhibition.
SUPER CAPTION: James Ulak, Freer Gallery curator
The function of the Jesuit-trained Japanese artists was to produce religious works, very little of which survives today because of the later suppression of Christianity between the 1600 and 1800s.
Artist Yamaguchi Hoshun's fame stems from this work, The Nachi Shrine of Kumano, which details Mi-Kumano, a holy shrine in Wakayama Prefecture.
Its detailed portrayal of the shrine and its plush surroundings is punctuated by the vibrant blue shadows along the mountains behind.
Art experts believe its most moving aspect is the way the artist conveys the passage of time - from the sea in the morning, to the shrines at midday and the mountains from dusk into night and finally the sky at dawn.
Nine of the thirty panels belonging to The Colorful Realm of Living Beings are included in the exhibit.
The set is the central and best-known project of Ito Jakuchu and they were executed over about a decade.
The range of subjects from sea life and roosters to frogs and birds were selected to represent the world of living things.

Tokyo, Japan - Old Steam Locomotive Outside Shimbashi Station HD (2017)
Shimbashi Station (新橋駅 Shinbashi-eki) is a major interchange railway station in Tokyo's Minato Ward, located centrally and a 10-minute walk from the Ginza shopping district, directly south of Tokyo station.
Tokyo is the capital city of Japan and one of its 47 prefectures. The Greater Tokyo Area is the most populous metropolitan area in the world. It is the seat of the Emperor of Japan and the Japanese government. Tokyo is in the Kantō region on the southeastern side of the main island Honshu and includes the Izu Islands and Ogasawara Islands. Formerly known as Edo, it has been the de facto seat of government since 1603 when Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu made the city his headquarters. It officially became the capital after Emperor Meiji moved his seat to the city from the old capital of Kyoto in 1868; at that time Edo was renamed Tokyo. Tokyo Metropolis was formed in 1943 from the merger of the former Tokyo Prefecture (東京府 Tōkyō-fu) and the city of Tokyo (東京市 Tōkyō-shi).
Tokyo is often referred to as a city, but is officially known and governed as a metropolitan prefecture, which differs from and combines elements of a city and a prefecture, a characteristic unique to Tokyo. The Tokyo metropolitan government administers the 23 Special Wards of Tokyo (each governed as an individual city), which cover the area that was the City of Tokyo before it merged and became the metropolitan prefecture in 1943. The metropolitan government also administers 39 municipalities in the western part of the prefecture and the two outlying island chains. The population of the special wards is over 9 million people, with the total population of the prefecture exceeding 13 million. The prefecture is part of the world's most populous metropolitan area with upwards of 37.8 million people and the world's largest urban agglomeration economy. In 2011, the city hosted 51 of the Fortune Global 500 companies, the highest number of any city in the world, at that time. Tokyo ranked third (twice) in the International Financial Centres Development IndexEdit. The city is also home to various television networks such as Fuji TV, Tokyo MX, TV Tokyo, TV Asahi, Nippon Television, NHK and the Tokyo Broadcasting System.
Tokyo ranked first in the Global Economic Power Index and third in the Global Cities Index. The city is considered an alpha+ world city – as listed by the GaWC's 2008 inventory – and in 2014, Tokyo was ranked first in the Best overall experience category of TripAdvisor's World City Survey (the city also ranked first in the following categories: helpfulness of locals, nightlife, shopping, local public transportation and cleanliness of streets). In 2015, Tokyo was ranked as the 11th most expensive city for expatriates, according to the Mercer consulting firm, and also the world's 11th most expensive city, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit's cost-of-living survey. In 2015, Tokyo was named the Most Liveable City in the world by the magazine Monocle. The Michelin Guide has awarded Tokyo by far the most Michelin stars of any city in the world. Tokyo was ranked first out of all fifty cities in the 2015 Safe Cities Index. The 2016 edition of QS Best Student Cities ranked Tokyo as the 3rd-best city in the world to be a university student. Tokyo hosted the 1964 Summer Olympics, the 1979 G-7 summit, the 1986 G-7 summit, and the 1993 G-7 summit, and Tokyo will host the 2020 Summer Olympics and the 2020 Summer Paralympics.
