Living in the Shadows of a Volcano
Kagoshima City is the administrative, economic, and cultural center of Kagoshima Prefecture and is a castle town dating back to the 14th century. The city and its suburbs are located on the northeastern part of Satsuma Peninsula and face the Kagoshima Bay, which is more commonly known as Kinko Bay.
The smoking Sakurajima centered in Kinko Bay is one of the main symbols of Kagoshima Prefecture. Throughout history Sakurajima (4 km from central Kagoshima City) has been the site of multiple massive eruptions and continues to be one of the most well-known active volcanos in the world. Sakurajima was originally an isolated island however, as a result of the eruption of 1914, the island was joined to the adjacent Osumi Peninsula. The leva fields can still be seen on the island as testament to the history of the volcano's eruptions. - Japan Tourism

A day in Kagoshima (Amu Plaza, Tenmonkan, Japanese Nursery, etc)
An absolute random blog walking through Amu Plaza (food tasting), then a quick visit to the pokemon centre store. We also went to the Terukuni Shrine, then Dolphin port. Finally, we went to pick up our daughter from the nursery (you get to see a Japanese nursery from the outside).

Kagoshima, a city overlooked by the majestic Sakurajima volcano, is home to many historic shochu distilleries. Made from ingredients like rice, wheat and sweet potato, shochu is Japan's distilled beverage.
At a distillery, shochu is aged for years in “Kame” (a type of large jar).
Tastings and purchase of mature Kagoshima shochu are available at the shop adjoining the distillery.
If you wish to try a wide range of Kagoshima shochu, head for an izakaya downtown.

Kagoshima Food Culture Festival (2015) 鹿児島食文化祭り！飲ん兵衛は見逃すな！
The Kagoshima Food festival is held at Kagoshima Water Front (park in front of Dolphin Port) from 6th to 8th November 2015.
I took the video of the festival and please watch and enjoy!
Personally I really love roasted Sakurajima chicken! I wish if I could have it with a glass of bear. (But I have to drive a car and I give up the thought).
Kagoshima is famous for various kinds of Shochu (a kind of alcohol spirits made of sweet potato). You can try various kinds of Shochu at the festival! Never miss it!

個人的には薩摩鶏の炭火焼きはかなりウマかったです！できればビールと一緒に食べたかったのですが、車を運転しないといけなかったのであきらめました・・・。

Yamakataya Bunka Classes - Canzone
Yamakataya is a department store in Kagoshima, and it offers culture classes, which include hula dance for adults, language lessons, tap dance, etc. Every few months, the store puts on a show where the students (and often the teachers) can demonstrate their skills. On April 11th, one of the groups was the Italian canzone class - Italian music with Japanese lyrics. The only downside was the sound system, which was hissy, had occasional pops, and some feedback. The engineer didn't seem to have much control over his gear.
