Exploring Yambuk & Lady Julia Percy Island
Getting the kayaks out at Yambuk Victoria. Taking on the surf we got out and headed out to fish around Lady Julia Percy Island. We didn't find any decent fish but it was a very cool area to fish. Had some serious fun in the surf on the way back in!

Port Fairy out of town spots - Yambuk The Crags
Things to see around Port Fairy.
Yambuk
Just 13 minutes west of Port Fairy, this little area has some surprises. The old pub on the main road worth looking at. The name Yambuk is an aboriginal word thought to mean ‘red kangaroo', 'full moon' or 'big water'. The township was established in the 1850s, the Post Office opened in 1859. The town now has a population of just 267 residents.
There isn’t a lot to see and do here, but if you have children, they will want to see the big slide. The road out to the beach is narrow but scenic and goes straight through the small Yambuk caravan park before ending at the slide and the Yambuk lakes. Below includes some footage of what the slide looks like and the coast line along here. Also in the area is The Crags lookout.
The Crags
In the area of Yambuk, The Crags are well worth a look. Not many people seem to know about this area, but it is well worth seeing this spectacular coast line of Victoria.
Located 12 kilometres west of Port Fairy off the Princes Highway, The Crags offers spectacular views of the rocky, calcarenite cliffs and – 19 kilometres from shore – visitors can see the volcanic Lady Julia Percy (Deen Maar) Island.
The Crags is a wild and scenic section of our coast, with panoramic views. Lady Julia Percy Island is home to more than 4000 seals, fairy penguins, birds of prey and has the largest Australian rookeries of fairy prions and driving petrels. Many of the bird species can be viewed from The Crags as they move across the ocean in search of feeding grounds. You can see the pictures we took in the video above.
As a family we enjoy exploring Australia. This is a small trip we did in January 2020 to Western Victoria, Australia. More details can be seen at
