Journeys in Japan - Yanai - Old Town of Goldfish Lanterns [1080p]
Yanai prospered as a port town in the Seto Inland Sea. It was one of the largest merchant cities in the region during the late 18th century. The city has a tenderly preserved district where merchants' white-plaster grand homes, built in the traditional kura storehouse style, line the street. This charming district is adorned with hanging goldfish lanterns in the summertime. There are also Yanaijima textile shops. This hand-woven cotton textile, which features stripes in indigo shades, was once hugely popular but production gradually declined in the 19th century. However, with the passion of the local people, Yanaijima was revived about 20 years ago.
Yanai City Volunteer Guide Club Volunteer guides show visitors the highlights of Yanai.
Must be booked 10 days in advance. There is also a free hiking tour that starts at 10:30 am from JR Yanai Station. No reservation is required.

NHK World Journeys in Japan, Daniela Shiga: Living with Horses Hidaka 日高振興局 Partial
Living with Horses - Hidaka: With One of the Top Racehorse, Race Course, Dinner in the Guesthouse
The Hidaka area on the southwestern coast of Hokkaido is famous for its racehorses. This is where many of the most famous Japanese racehorses were born, raised and trained. On this edition of Journeys in Japan, Daniela Shiga travels to Hidaka to see the way people live alongside horses. Even though she has loved horses and riding all her life, this is the first experience for her to see and touch a racehorse close-up. She visits a large ranch where the racehorses are allowed to wander freely. Owner Shigeyuki Okada says this is the secret to raising horses that are strong and healthy. Next Daniela gets to look behind the scenes at a stable. She meets a talented young jockey who works hard every day to improve his understanding of the horses he rides, and build up a relationship with them. She also enjoys the warm hospitality offered at a local guesthouse. Through her journey, she gets to see the important role that horses play in the lives of people in this area.
Ranch visits
If you want to visit a horse ranch in Hidaka, you have to reserve in advance. To make a reservation (and for more details), please contact the Furusato Racehorse Information desk.
Monbetsu Race Course
The racing season is from April through the end of November. Races are held 3 times a week, in the afternoon and evening.
Horoshiri Horseback Club (Horse trekking)
You can enjoy horseback riding with the former race horse. Advance reservations required.
Guesthouse
A family-like inn where a horse is seen from a window.
Hospice for horses
A facility where former racehorses spends the rest of their lives.
DANIELA: When the director asked me that it would be a program on horses I could not believe my luck. Being with horses was my lifelong passion which I kept alive even in Japan. However, I did not know how a horse becomes a racing horse. So it was a great opportunity.
The owner of the ranch showed me that if you feed them good grass and give them lots of open space, the horse becomes strong and it becomes an amazing athlete! I believe it is same for us. We need to be in tune with nature.
Overall I was moved by the amazing relationship between the race horses and the people involved. I've seen quite a few moving scenes that will grab your heart and lift your spirits while watching this program.

Luxury life of rich people in japan | Japan technology | Future of japan | Smart house | JAPAN
A country of trends, Japan is one of the world’s top markets when it comes to lifestyle and luxury goods.
In our special edition of Focus on Japan, we look at the plentiful opportunities for companies, particularly European ones, to invest in the country.
The Ginza bling
Tokyo’s Ginza district is home to all things luxury. Swarovski is an Austrian family company which has grown into a big brand name, known worldwide for its crystal products.
It has been in Japan since the 1970s and now boasts 115 shops.
Vincent Nelias, Managing Director of Swarovski Japan, spoke to us from the latest and largest outlet.
“They (Japanese) are, in a sense, more classic in the choice. They enjoy more delicate designs. They love of course fashion and trends, but the share of jewellery we sell in Japan is more in the classic collections.”
Tourism boosts takings
For Swarovski, as indeed for the entire premium and luxury sector, one of the challenges is dealing with a boom in tourism.
Chinese visitors, for example, totalled 2.5 million in 2014. That number doubled last year, forming a big part of the evolving turnover.
Nelias explained: “We had to adjust the way to serve. We have Chinese speaking staff. We have specific best-sellers or collections. And we have also a way to attend them in terms of speed of service, in terms of presenting the collections.
“But, what we must not forget is the Japanese consumers. They represent 90 percent of our business in Japan. So, we make sure that we attend to them with the highest service quality possible.”
Grasping the ‘Omotenashi’
Reporting from Japan, euronews’ Serge Rombi said: “In this sector, perhaps more than others, if you want to succeed, you must grasp an important concept.
“It’s the Omotenashi, exceptional Japanese hospitality, probably one of the most advanced in the world.”
And then companies also have to understand certain customs. For example, if a European firm wants to succeed in the market, it must ensure that the Japanese want its products.
And of course the goods must already have proven their worth in the core market.
The general mood has also changed since the 2011 earthquake in Japan.
“What has changed? Before 2011, we consumed many, many things. But in 2011, we realised what we could lose,” said Ako Enomoto, a trend specialist.
“What is most precious to us? We value time with our family and friends.”
Osaka: a business launch-pad
Osaka is a bustling city with a unique atmosphere. It was in Osaka that in 2012 a Danish giant – specialising in “Nordic Deco” – opened its first store in Asia.
“Tokyo was too important a market. There’s no room for error. And Osaka was the perfect testing ground,” said Hirotake Yamamoto, CEO of Flying Tiger Japan.
“Our products are quite fun, and that fun side, people in Osaka complement very well.”
And that test was so successful that the company now has 24 stores in
four cities, including Tokyo. There is also a plan to double the number of shops in the coming years.
The company has had support from JETRO, the Japan External Trade Organisation.
Yamamoto explained: “In this market, we learned two things. First the Japanese market is a mature market and therefore the demand for quality is very important.
“Then we had to create specific products and adapt to the needs of the Japanese market. “
When it comes to luxury and lifestyle, the Japanese market is seen as a safe bet and a long-term investment.
And the European origin of products in these sectors remains a real asset.
Malaysia Lantern Tourism Festival 2012
Nearing the third quarter of the year, bakeries and shopping centres across Malaysia begin displaying mooncakes of every kind and colour, in anticipation of the coming Mooncake festival. Known in the Chinese language as the Zhong Qiu festival, the event is also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival, falling on the September 30th in 2012. For more on this article please log on to
Departure for State Visit to Japan (Speech) 6/2/2015
NAIA Terminal II, Pasay City
02 June 2015
“Hindi naman po lingid sa kaalaman ng marami: Sa nakalipas na 59 taon, lampas-lampas pa sa kanilang obligasyon ang naibigay ng mga Hapon na tulong, suporta, at malasakit sa ating bansa,” said President Benigno S. Aquino III as he departed Manila for his four-day State Visit to Japan.
In his remarks, the President emphasized that apart from being among the countries supporting the Philippines in its territorial claims, Japan is also among the first few who rendered immediate response at the onslaught of super typhoon Yolanda in 2013.
Alongside the booming Japanese investments in the country like malls, restaurants and merchandise, Japan had likewise greatly contributed in promoting lasting peace in Mindanao.
Upon his arrival in the “Land of the Rising Sun”, President Aquino is set to meet with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko. Also among the highlights of the State Visit is his scheduled dialogue with the Filipino Community, including the nine (9) cadets of the exchange program between the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) and the National Defense Academy of Japan.
He will also attend the Nikkei 21st International Conference on the Future of Asia, an event organized by the biggest media group in Japan. “Ibabahagi po natin doon ang mga repormang ipinatupad natin sa pamahalaan, na nagbunga ng positibong pagbabago para sa ating kababayan,” President Aquino stated.

Mr. Toshizo Ido, Governor of Hyogo Prefecture as a Making Cities Resilient Champion
Date: March 9th 2012 11:20 -
Venue: Headquarters Office of Disaster Management Center, Hyogo Prefectural Government
About the Venue: The Disaster Management Center was constructed after the 1995 Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake for the purpose to respond promptly and accurately to any disaster occurrence from the initial phase of emergency response as the headquarters of disaster management. It functions as the 24-hour disaster responsive and monitoring base equipped with the Phoenix Disaster Prevention and Preparedness System, a comprehensive disaster risk reduction (DRR) information system. The center was established building on the lessons learned from the 1995 earthquake in which the government office building itself was damaged by the intensive quake and became out of use for the initial response.)
Interviewer: Ms. Yuki Matsuoka, Head of UNISDR Hyogo Office

Influx of Japanese retail and F&B businesses to Singapore
SINGAPORE: Japanese brands and companies have been expanding and growing in Singapore in recent months, despite the global economic slowdown.
These include clothing giant Uniqlo and food and beverage (F&B) brands such as Ippudo, Aoba and Toku Toku.
They are attracted by the strong consumer spending power, governance and favourable tax rates. This is despite the high capital costs that are similar to those in Japan.
F&B giant Japan Foods recently introduced a Japanese food hall, housing multiple brand names, and investing about S$4 million in a newly-opened shopping mall, Tampines 1.
Japan Foods plans to eventually expand some of those brands as standalone outlets in other shopping centres, such as ION Orchard and Orchard Central, along the country's main shopping belt.
Despite the relatively higher capital and labour costs, many Japanese firms still find Singapore an attractive place to operate in compared to other locations in the region.
CEO of Japan Foods, Takahashi Kenichi, said: Because tax is cheaper (in Singapore) than Japan, so companies find it easier to open a shop in Singapore. I think Singapores economy is almost the same as Japans.
For brands that are not as well-known in Singapore, the right location becomes even more critical if they want to grow here, according to the executive director of the Singapore Retailers Association, Lau Chuen Wei.
Some have been able to overcome this by setting up in places with healthy traffic flow such as Liang Court, which is popular among the Japanese community.
Setting up a shop there has helped improve sales for Greenberry Loft, a Japanese label for children's clothing. It says sales have gone up by about 40 per cent since it moved in last year from Raffles Place.
Many of the new Japanese businesses entering the Singapore market belong to the F&B sector. Analysts say this sector is among those which are more resilient during a downturn.
Temple whose veranda you can monopolize – Kurayoshi City Tottori
Kiyomizu-dera in Kyoto is a great temple famous for its large veranda, supported by tall pillars, that juts out over the hillside.
I suppose the people who visited the temple were eager to monopolize Kiyomizu-dera’s large veranda.
But it is impossible because Kiyomizu-dera’s large veranda is always full of many visitors.
By the way, do you know that Kurayoshi City in Tottori Prefecture has a unique temple whose structure is, as it were, a mini-Kiyomizu-dera?
That is Hase-dera Temple which has a medium-size veranda you can monopolize. Only sophisticated travelers visit Hase-dera Temple situated in the west of Mt. Utsubuki.
A week around 1st December is the best period to see the coloured leaves in and around Hase-dera Temple. I strongly recommend you to prepare to fly to Kurayoshi just now!
