Australia fires: nation braces for 'catastrophic' bushfire week
The NSW premier, Gladys Berejiklian, has declared a state of emergency as bushfires rage across the state. ‘We know the weather forecast for tomorrow is at catastrophic levels,’ Berejiklian said. The NSW rural fire commissioner, Shane Fitzsimmons, said that level was 'off the conventional scale' and even houses that were designed and built to withstand bushfires would not survive such extreme conditions. ’Catastrophic conditions are where people die’, he said. The declaration of a state of emergency means emergency services have authority to undertake whatever is deemed necessary and to use any resources to save lives

Redgum Restaruant Episode - Dining Downunder Cooking Show
This episode, Vic Cherikoff visits Redgum Restaurant inside the historic Boronia House in the northern Sydney suburb of Mosman. Originally located at the corso in Manly, Uli and Sean's Redgum Restaurant relocated to Boronia House in 2001 when the Manly Pier was being renovated.
Built in 1885, Boronia House is listed as one of the finest on the heritage register and has a timeless quality. The wooden floorboards, open fireplaces and high ornate ceilings create a feeling of grandeur. Fully refurbished in 1997 the house offers a style that affords a sense of space, light and harmony. The French doors open onto the surrounding veranda' which overlooks the grounds and gardens. On a sunny Sunday afternoon you could believe that you are on a country estate surrounded by areas of open space instead of being 30 metres from the busy Military road. Inside, the restaurant is decorated in the warm colours of the Australian outback with large pieces of Aboriginal art adorning the walls and displays of native Australian flowers and greenery completing the fusion of Victorian and contemporary style.
Redgum's menu is a combination of European/Asian cooking with the influence of Australian herbs and spices with dishes such as Calamari with passionfruit and Mountain Pepper BBQ Sauce, Salt bush lamb with kumara smash and for dessert a gumleaf brulee.
Redgum Restaurant has since closed, and Boronia house operates as a wedding and function centre. However, Chef Ulli has migrated to Queensland and runs a highly successful Australian themed restaurant called Picnics at the Rocks at Yandina about an hour and a half north of Brisbane.

Noosa Villages - Pomona

Named after the Roman goddess of fruit and orchards, Pomona is a relaxed country town that is located at the foot of Mt Cooroora.
Pomona was first settled in the late 1880s and, when the railway arrived soon after, became a centre of agriculture. Originally known as Pinbarren siding, the town's name was changed in 1906 to 'Pomona'. Pomona was the administrative centre for Noosa shire from 1910 until 1980.
Today Pomona's history is evident in its heritage streetscapes and well-preserved public buildings.
Things to do
Wander past the art deco buildings along the main street and do a spot of shopping or stop for a coffee break.
Pick up a map at the Pomona Visitor Information Centre and take the Pomona Heritage Walk -- an easy wander past more than 30 of Pomona's historic buildings of interest.
Discover stories and artifacts that reveal the local history at the Noosa Shire Museum. Located in the Old Shire Chambers, the museum displays include photographs of important moments in Pomona's history, a Post Office Exhibit, and a room dedicated to the original inhabitants of the area, the Gubbi Gubbi people.
Pomona is also the home of the Majestic Cinema, the oldest continuously running silent movie cinema in the world. Built as the Majestic Hall in 1921, it was originally used for social and sporting events and silent movies. 'Talkies' were introduced briefly in 1931, but the cinema reverted back to silent movies and today shows The Son of the Sheik, starring Rudolf Valentino, every Thursday at 8.30pm, as well as a hot of other events throughout the year.
Call in at the Old Pomona Railway Station Art Gallery, housed in the original town railway station, where work by local artisans is on display.
