The Yanqi Lake in Beijing, China is a picture of serenity with great vistas of waterscape and landscape. An increasingly popular choice for locals and tourists alike, the Yanqi Lake was chosen as the location for the Belt and Road Forum 2017, an initiative that promotes closer economic cooperation and connectivity among countries from around the world. Encircled by the mountains of Jundu, Hongluo and Jingdeng it is a wonder to behold during the daytime, but its beauty is dulled by the darkness during the night. However, that is now history as OSRAM Lighting Solutions breathes new life to the nighttime scenery.
Following the exceptional success and record-breaking attempt with the Wuhan Two Rivers and Four Banks light installation, OSRAM Lighting Solutions rose to face the challenge of Yanqi Lake. The environment around Yanqi Lake naturally generates harsh conditions, making this project extremely difficult. With tropical storms and snow likely occurrences, the survival of outdoor electronic equipment is slim and so it was required that the solution be robust, reliable and capable. The OSRAM OLUX® LED Flood Light 150W RGBW was selected because it can withstand the elements, come rain, snow or shine. Controlled by over 400 e:cue Butler S2, the resulting light display is akin to that of a traditional Chinese landscape painting, highlighting the natural beauty of the lake and the surrounding area. The color-changing display creates a mesmerizing and dynamic swathe of light that washes over the lake and mountains like shimmering brushstrokes in the night.
The wondrous light installation even uses the mountains themselves as a canvas, creating the effect of an invisible brush dancing to the rhythm of nature and highlighting all its glory. As the landscape lights up, the view serves to remind spectators of the past, the technology shows what’s possible in the present and together they can act as an inspiration for what the future may hold.
By integrating state-of-the-art innovations with the natural environment of Yanqi Lake, OSRAM Lighting Solutions was able to create a painting made of light, underlining the incredible beauty of China’s landscape while simulating traditional Chinese art. The success of this project shows once again that for OSRAM Lighting Solutions, the impossible is just an obstacle to overcome. 10km north of Huairou Town, nestled between the low green Yan mountains (Yan Shan) on three sides with the North China Plain, to the south Yanqi Lake makes for a pleasant day trip or weekend getaway from Beijing.
Taking its name, which translates roughly as Wild Goose Lake or Swan Lake, from its abundant water fowl. The Mutianyu stretch of the Great Wall is just visible to the north on clear days from the lake, and Hongluo Temple, to the west, is worth a visit.
The lake offers a number of recreational options, from boating to fishing and swimming. Hiking in the nearby hills and mountains is also to be had, as are bungee-jumping and rock climbing.

Located in the northern suburb of Beijing, Yanqi Lake is a scenic spot at the foot of Yanshan Mountain. It has hosted many high-profile international events, such as the 2014 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation and the 2017 Belt and Road forum. Also, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced at a press briefing on Friday that the Second Belt and Road Forum (BRF) for International Cooperation will be held in Beijing from April 25 to 27 by the side of Yanqi Lake. Beijing's luxury hotel complex Sunrise Kempinski Hotel Beijing & Yanqi Island opened its doors to the public on Monday, inviting 45 lucky individuals to become the high-end establishment's first guests.
Located on Yanqi Island, the complex is managed by the Kempinski group, and boasts 14 hotels spread across an area spanning 14 square kilometres (5.4 square miles). The scenic island in the heart of Beijing's Huairou district contains the 8277-square-metre (89093-square-foot) Beijing Yanqi Lake International Conference Centre, some 12 boutique hotels featuring 178 rooms, 1,001 square metres (10775 square feet) of meeting space at Yanqi Hotel, and a marina, all surrounded by Yanqi Lake.
Famed for its contemporary style and stunning views, the island and its hotels gained notoriety after being used for the 2014 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) convention.

APEC leaders posed for the AELM family photo at the Hongyan Hall, International Conference Center (ICC) in Yanqi Lake, Beijing.

AELM serves as an annual meeting of the leaders of member economies, at which the policy agenda is set for APEC. Through this meeting, leaders consider proposals and recommendations from Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM), Sectoral Ministerial Meetings, APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC), Joint Meetings of Ministers for Foreign Affairs and Ministers Responsible for Trade (AMM). They also issue statements on future development directions for the years to come.
The first AELM was held in 1993 at Blake Island, United States.

6th Beijing International Film Festival Opens
The 6th Beijing International Film Festival opened on Saturday in the Chinese capital, drawing more than 2,000 attendees and film organizations from home and abroad.
More than 300 domestic and foreign filmmakers, directors, actors, and actresses participated in the red carpet opening ceremony at Yanqi Lake International Convention Center in the northern suburbs of Beijing.
Stars including Oscar winners Natalie Portman and Christoph Waltz, Hong Kong actors Chow Yun Fat and Wallace Chung, and South Korean actors Lee Min-ho and Lee Jung-jae, walked the red carpet.
Natalie Portman brought her directorial debut, A Tale of Love and Darkness, to this year's event.
It is a huge honor, of course, to get to show my film here and also to get to share with Chinese audiences. We have gotten to see Zhang Yimou's films, of course, in the U.S. So, it would be wonderful to get to work with Chinese filmmakers or actors, said Portman, referring to a prominent Chinese director.
American director Bret Ratner, who directed The Revenant, will head the competition jury at the film festival, which runs from April 16 to 23.
Joining Ratner on the jury will be Hong Kong director Teddy Chan, German filmmaker Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, Romanian director and screenwriter Corneliu Porumboiu, Japanese director Yojiro Takita, Bosnian filmmaker Danis Tanovic, and Chinese actress Xu Qing.
According to the festival's organizers, 15 out of some 430 films from 42 countries and regions have been shortlisted this year for the main competition section. More on:
