Yarab Tso aka Yarab Lake, Panamik, Ladakh, India (2016)
The hot water springs and a sacred Yarab Tso Lake are located in the Panamik village passing Sumur on the Sumur-Turtuk Road which ends at Pakistani Border. Yarab Lake is located between the mountains and is fairly small in size, about the size of a football field.
There had been clashes between Indian and Pakistani Military during the 1999 Kargil War thus heavy military presence from both sides at either side of the border.

FOUND OUR WAY TO THE HOLY YRAB TSO !!
YARAB TSO LAKE IS ONE OF THE HOLIEST AND HIGH ALTITUDE LAKES SITUATED 20KMS FROM DISKIT IN THE NUBRA VALLEY. THE PRESENCE OF CRYSTAL CLEAR FRESH WATER IN THE LAKE UNDERNEATH THE ROCKY AND BARREN TERRAIN FLASHES THE ENCHANTING PICTURE OF ITS SURROUNDINGS

The hot water springs and a sacred Yarab Tso Lake are located in the Panamik village passing Sumur on the Sumur-Turtuk Road which ends at Pakistani Border. The water is very hot and they've provided facilities for bathing and also believes that this is good for many diseases.

What to See Around Sumur, Nubra Valley Panamik Hot Springs and Yarabtso Holy Lake
There are four main attractions in the Nubra Valley: double-hump Bactrian camels; Diskit Buddhist Monastery; Panamik Hot Springs and Yarabtso Holy Lake. Steve and I headed towards Panamik Hot Springs located only a few kilometers from Siachen Glacier. Panamik has two designated area to soak weary body parts in waters rich in sulphur; Panamik #1 and Panamik #2. Interesting to look at but not necessary to see.
Yarabtso Holy Lake is another just okay place to visit. This small lake, nestled in a mountain hollow, is considered Holy because no one knows where the water rises from. A spring? Volcanic origin? Since Travels With Sheila does not have a degree in geology, she doesn't have a clue!
Stay at Diskit Sonam guest house (Nubra Valley) | Hunder Sand dunes || Leh-Ladakh
We visited Hunder to see one of the Ladakh beauty ( like sand dunes). This homestay is in the way to Hunder. The Nice and humble couple who have provided us a homestay and homely dinner and breakfast. I have tasted and feel the ladakhi culture here. Thanks to the owner.
We arrived by about 6:30 and the place were easy to find due to marking. Nothing much to do in Hanle apart from the observatory and of course the unbelievable night sky. It's unreal.
Electricity remains from 7pm-11pm. Comfortable beds but high altitude meant sleep was a bit disturbed.
They made arrangements for us to see the observatory early in the morning - felt proud to be up there.

The ultra wide landscapes, humongous rocky mountain faces, lovely roads and the wide variety of colours will just take your breath away at the first sight of Nubra valley region.
Places to visit in Nubra valley:
* Diskit: Diskit has a monastery which is largest and oldest Buddhist monastery in Nubra Valley and houses a 106 feet tall Future (Maitreya) Buddha statue. There is Lachung Temple as well which is quite close to the monastery. This popular tourist attraction is 350 years old, and visitors can see the life of the Buddhist monks and the peace and beauty that surrounded them.
* Hunder: Hunder is famous for its sand dunes and double humped bacterian camel safari. In the evening, you can also pay a visit to folk dance show (100 INR/person).
* Sumur: Somewhere between Sumur and Kyagar, you can visit Samstanling monastery.
* Panamik: It has hot water springs and a sacred Yarab Tso lake nearby the entrance of the village.
* Turtuk: Recently opened for tourists in 2010, Turtuk offers a much different landscape and cultural orientation than rest of the Nubra Valley. You can see apricot trees loaded around the entire village with views closer to Karakorum range. If you have time, a MUST VISIT place in Nubra Valley.

Panamik High School Concert - Nubra Valley, Ladakh
I met a lovely man who was a teacher at Panamik high school while on the rooftop of a local bus one morning in the Nubra Valley. He invited me to perform for the children at Panamik high school later that afternoon and I jumped at the opportunity.
Playing music in front of such well behaved children reminded me of my school days when musical groups would visit our school and everyone would be seated quietly, cross-legged on the floor.
This was a surreal and rich cultural experience for me and was indeed one of the highlights of my time in the Nubra Valley.

The direct route from Nubra Valley to Pangong Tso is getting popular among domestic tourists year after year. As of 2018, this route is the hot favorite among tourists, especially those who are short on days for an ideal Ladakh trip.
