Yarra Valley Real Estate - Warburton, Yarra Valley
Warburton, 3799
Andrew McMath Real Estate
Warburton is a town in Victoria, Australia, 72 km east from Melbourne's central business district. Its Local Government Area is the Shire of Yarra Ranges. At the 2006 Census, Warburton had a population of 2288.
The name Warburton has been shared between two townships over the years. The mining town of Yankee Jims Creek was located on the gold-bearing slopes of Mount Little Joe, and was renamed Warburton after the mining warden of the district, Charles Warburton Carr. Gold depletion caused a declining population in the 1880s, so the town was renamed Old Warburton and the town of Upper Warburton on the banks on the Yarra River was renamed Warburton.
The Post Office opened around 1884 though two earlier offices named Warburton were renamed as Launching Place and Hoddle's Creek.
Warburton area is a tourist destination, with picturesque mountain views of the surrounding hills. The Yarra river meanders through the township and is lined with walking tracks and beautiful picnic spots. The township is 20 minutes drive from Mount Donna Buang, which is snow covered in the winter. Restaurants and cafés, river walks, snow-play, and wineries make up the local attractions.
Warburton was connected to Lilydale by a Victorian Railways branch line which closed in 1965. The railway path is now used for the Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail, a rail trail used by pedestrians, cyclists, and horse-riders.
East of Warburton is a large water catchment area called Upper Yarra Dam designed to supply Melbourne with the required amount of water sourced from the Thomson catchment area.
Together with its neighbouring township Millgrove, Warburton has an Australian Rules football team (Warburton Millgrove) competing in the Yarra Valley Mountain District Football League.
Golfers play at the course of the Warburton Golf Club on Dammans Road.
Yarra Valley Grammar School's new building
The Yarra Valley Grammar community was left shocked when a fire destroyed its science and IT blocks days before school was due to start for the year. However, the Ringwood school wasted no time getting back on its feet -- immediately getting to work on a new year 9 centre. Watch the building go up in a single day.
Ride Yarra Ranges
Ride Yarra Ranges is an accessible and sustainable world class trail destination that immerses you in the natural beauty of the Yarra Ranges.
Combining Warburton’s scenic natural environment and village atmosphere, with the Warburton Mountain Bike Destination would promote a healthy community and put Warburton on the national and international tourism radar.

Upper Yarra Reservoir Dam Upgrade
Upper Yarra Dam was constructed in 1957 to the best standards of the day. Dam design standards have improved over the years and the proposed upgrade will make it compatible with the latest industry standards.
These works to the dam are maintenance works to upgrade an already safe dam - making it even safer. There is no risk to public safety in relation to these works, or the dam. Melbourne Water has an excellent safety record and operates under some of the strictest and most conservative dam safety rules in the world.
We apply the best Australian and international engineering practices in the design, management and operation of dams.

Dandenong Ranges Community Bank Group
The people of the Dandenong Ranges region in Victoria banded together when the big banks walked away from Upwey in 1998. By the end of that year they had established only the second Community Bank company in Australia and it has flourished ever since. Starting in Upwey, the Dandenong Ranges Community Bank Group branched out to Belgrave, Cockatoo, Olinda and Emerald and Marysville agencies, providing everything by way of business, personal and investment banking products - and one thing they don't ... most of the bank's profits go back into the community. The message is simple, according to the Dandenong Ranges Community Bank Group. Bank with them, and they'll support the local community. Since 1998 the Dandenong Ranges Community Bank Group has given over $1.3 million in grants and sponsorships to more than 280 different local groups, to schools, sporting clubs, emergency services, the Angliss Hospital, Fernlea House and a host of other community groups. $1Million has also been set aside for four major community projects. Not to mention the $890,000 in dividends to the mainly local shareholders who have backed the bank from the start. To date, that means there has been more than $3 million in community gifting.
