Australian Road Trip Series | Sassafras, Yarra Valley and the Dandenong Ranges
Relax, unwind and leave the city stress behind with a weekend in the quaint little town of Sassafras, about an hour from Melbourne.
Discover the village's nineteenth century charm, stroll through lush English gardens, and savour an afternoon Devonshire tea. On a typical day in Sassafras, you can hop from brunch to a late lunch to dinner as you're spoiled for choice of cafes, restaurants and quaint tearooms. Take Devonshire tea at Miss Marples Tearoom, an authentic English cottage inspired by Agatha Christie.
Between meals browse in the antique stores and the local specialist shops. Pick up local wine and produce at Ripe or General Food Store. Find wooden toys and handmade puppets at Geppetto's Workshop, and grab a teapot as a souvenir at Tea Leaves along with black, green and herbal teas from across the globe.

Perched high above Melbourne (and only about an hour away by car), observe the striking seasons in the beautiful gardens of Olinda, breathe in the fresh country air of one of the highest villages in the Dandenong Ranges.
From postcard-perfect scenery in Olinda's public and private gardens, to spring blooms and crisp summer days to the changing colours of autumn. The Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden, which contains thousands of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias and daffodils is a particular prize of the region.
Once the home of Australian master painter Arthur Streeton, Olinda's creative spirit is still alive and kicking with local art galleries and studios like Touchstone Craft Gallery, which sells the works of over 250 Australian master craftspeople.

KIA Picanto GT 2019 driven by David: Yarra Valley VICTORIA AUSTRALIA
David Drives KIA's petite city car.
Written review here
Nearly three years ago Kia introduced their micro car, the Picanto, onto the Australian market. It was a model that was near the end of its product run having been sold in overseas markets including New Zealand. It was launched here with only one variant, a normally aspirated four cylinder with a four-speed automatic gearbox.
At the time we described it as a city car that struggled on rural roads.
The micro segment of the market in Australia was in decline and, even with some basic characteristics, the Picanto proved a success. Yet Kia noted there was a “constant undercurrent of demand” for a model with a bit more zing.
A new model came out in 2017 but now they have launched the GT version.
It’s a stretch to call a one-litre, three-cylinder car a GT, but the Picanto is a good package for a vehicle that costs $18,000 drive away.

A Tourist in Melbourne and the Yarra Valley (Australia)
Melbourne is a hub airport for Quantas and Emirates, an ideal opportunity for travellers to break their journey and visit some of the local attractions, such as the wonderful sandy beaches of Port Phillip Bay, sample a glass or two at one of the Yarra Valley wineries, take a trip on a steam train, or maybe ride one of the vintage trams around the city. Visit a zoo to get close to some of the colorful wildlife, there is even a chocolate factory with a cafe where customers can choose from an amazing array of candy, cakes, ice-cream, snacks and beverages. The riverside walkways are lined with cafes, bars and intriguing artwork. Board one of the river boats for an alternative view of the city’s attractive high rise skyline. The “Melbourne Star Observation Wheel” offers stunning aerial views over the city and surrounding suburbs, along with a commentary outlining the history of the area, as well as pointing out some of the more notable landmarks. Public transport is good with one of the largest, if not the largest tram network in the world, there are regular commuter trains out to the leafy suburbs such as Belgrave, for a trip on the delightful Puffing Billy railway where passengers can ride through the tall eucalyptus trees and ferns of the Wright Forest in a vintage railway carriage pulled by a centenarian steam locomotive. With so much to see and do, Melbourne is well worth a visit.
Filmed - 23rd to 25th Feb 2019

From Google search:
The Yarra Valley is the name given to the region surrounding the Yarra River in Victoria, Australia. The river originates approximately 90 kilometres east of the Melbourne central business district and flows towards it and out into Port Phillip Bay. The name Yarra Valley is used in reference to the upper regions surrounding the Yarra River and generally does not encompass the lower regions including the city and suburban areas, where the topography flattens out, or the upper reaches which are in inaccessible bushland. Included in the Yarra Valley is the sub-region of Upper Yarra (or the Upper Yarra Valley) which encompasses the towns of the former Shire of Upper Yarra in the catchment area upstream of and including Woori Yallock. The Yarra Valley is a popular day-trip and tourist area, featuring a range of natural features and agricultural produce, as well as the Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail.
The Yarra Valley is host to a thriving wine growing industry. The area's relatively cool climate makes it particularly suited to the production of high-quality chardonnay, pinot noir and sparkling wine.[1]
Yarra Valley towns fall under the Nillumbik and Yarra Ranges Shire Councils. Major towns include Coldstream, Yarra Glen, Healesville and Warburton.
It is also the filming location for the first two seasons of The Saddle Club.
