Hino Shinsengumi Matsuri - Samurai Festival 新選組
Shinsengumi was a special Shogun police force in Kyoto from 1863-1867. They were poor samurai, ronin, farmers, priests, merchants, etc... generally from around Tokyo who achieved fame (or infamy) in Kyoto defending the Shogunate.
Hino is the hometown of one the founding members of Shinsengumi, Hijikata Toshizo, who became the last commander of the corps in Hokkaido and was killed in action on June 20, 1869.
On the second weekend of May, they hold a big Shinsengumi festival with two parades. One starting in the morning at Takahata-Fudo Temple and another in the afternoon close to Hino Station.

Iaido demonstration Toudou-Renmei School - 刀道連盟 - 4K Ultra HD
Each year, the Tokyo branch of Yasaka Jinja from Kyoto, located in Hino-Machi, organizes a little matsuri where some of Tokyo’s most famous Iaido schools offer a very rare chance for local people to enjoy the beauty of this martial art.
Among these famous schools, one, the Toudou-Renmei School, dominated the whole matsuri with impressive swordsmanship, with students and masters offering us the power Aido. Unlike other Japanese martial arts, the black belt does not necessarily represent the highest level of experience of the swordsman. In fact, the modern samurai wearing the red belt is actually the most experienced of them all.

Higashi Honganji, Kyoto Japan
The Higashi Hongan-ji Temple is conveniently located just a few blocks north of Kyoto Station. Higashi Hongan-ji is actually one of two Hongan-ji temples, the other being Nishi Hongan-ji (or West Hongan-ji), which is located just a few blocks away.
Getting there is pretty easy. It’s just a few blocks north of Kyoto station. You could easily walk this in about 10 minutes. If for any reason you’d rather take the bus, please check with the official website for Kyoto city transportation:

2010 Hirosaki Neputa Matsuri - Japanese Festival with Lit-Up Floats and Flashing Swords
My second night in Aomori Prefecture I went to the city of Hirosaki for its Neputa Matsuri, a festival where they predominately use fan-shaped floats with painted pictures on them. The paintings depict scenes from Japanese and Chinese history and legend. Neputa is seen more like a parade for going to war so the scenes are more warlike and on the back are often paintings of women who represent the women who would say farewell to their warriors. Because of the warlike nature of Neputa, some of the paintings can be a bit gory with bloody severed heads. There is also a brief demonstration of using the katana.
This is my fourth time to the festival and it's one of my favorite being different each year as they make new floats every year.

京都東山花灯路 2018 火の用心 おはやし組 (Fire Alert and Other Elementary Songs of Kyoto) 2018/03/17 4K
The singers' performance was held as one of the Lantern Illuminated Alleys of Kyoto Higashiyama events in March 2018 just in front of the World Heritage site, Kiyomizu-dera.
It was the day before the last day of the 10-day spring performance of the Little Fire Alert Singers of Higashiyama, being an un-official nickname to stay here.
The songs sang are famous traditional kid songs of Kyoto that are sang less frequently elsewhere nowadays.
Since some of the songs are meant to educate the Kyoto kids to memorise complicate street names, they might as well be regharded as educational songs for modern days elementary education.
The performance was closed by the fadfing farewell song of Indeko Daimonji, meaning it's time to sadly leave you, remotely reminding us of the sad emotion to be felt at the departures of the spirits of ancestors leaving us after a brief stay, on the summer evening of Daimonji signs of mountain bonfires.
