Taikodani Inari Shrine ☆ Tsuwano, Shimane ☆ 太鼓谷稲成神社 ☆ Japan As It Truly Is

Taikodani is one of the grander Inari shrines and offers a spectacular mountaintop view.
Taikodani is one of the top 5 Inari shrines in Japan, and while Fushimi Inari in Kyoto is much larger, Taikodani is more peaceful yet still offers a 1000 torii gate tunnel which zigzags to the top. For brevity, in the video this has been cut down to show a few select areas - but takes about 10 minutes to go through. The shrine was established in 1773 to spiritually protect Tsuwano Castle, and commoners couldn't enter until around a century later.
Tsuwano in Shimane is an often overlooked place but gives a very tranquil and old Japan feel, with its canal lined streets with carp, beautiful cherry blossoms, and laid back atmosphere.

鷺舞は主として八坂信仰の神社にて奉納される伝統舞踊。津和野町及び京都市の八坂神社で奉納されるものが著名である。源流は八坂神社の祇園祭にて奉納されたもので、中国の七夕伝説を端緒にするものとされる。

Sagimai is the traditional dance mainly dedicated at the Shinto shrine of Yasaka faith. Things dedicated at Tsuwano Town and Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto City are prominent. Origin is dedicated at the Gion festival of Yasaka Shrine, and it is supposed to start with Chinese Tanabata legend.

The National Museum of Ethnology, also called “Minpaku”, was opened in 1977 as a museum and research center. Its galleries display colorful cultural exhibits from nine world regions which include original artifacts as well as video, audio, and photographic materials. This museum is located on the other side of the park’s rose garden, across from the Japan Folk Crafts Museum.

Sagimai, o la Danza de la Garza, se origina en Kyoto hace más de 400 años. Posteriormente se populariza en varias regiones del Japón y va desapareciendo paulatinamente. En la actualidad se conserva en el encantador poblado de Tsuwano en la prefectura de Shimane al occidente del Japón.
Esta danza hace parte del Patrimonio Intangible Rural Nacional del Japón.

Sagimai, or the Heron Dance, originated in Kyoto and then it was copied in other parts of Japan. However it started desapearing and the most famous traditional performance takes place in the charming town of Tsuwano, Simane Prefecture, in the Western aprt of Japan.
Sagimai has been designated as a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan.

Tsuwano Heron Dance Sagimai 鷺舞い

The Heron Dance (Sagimai) takes place in Tsuwano in July each year. The headsets weigh up to 15 kilos.
