View inside Buddha Dodenma in Thimphu, Bhutan
Buddha Dordenma is a gigantic Shakyamuni Buddha statue completed construction on September 25th 2015 in the mountains of Bhutan celebrating their 60th anniversary of fourth king Jigme Singye Wangchuck. The statue will house over one hundred thousand smaller Buddha statues, each of which, like the Buddha Dordenma itself, will be made of bronze and gilded in gold. The Buddha Dordenma is sited amidst the ruins of Kuensel Phodrang, the palace of Sherab Wangchuck, the thirteenth Desi Druk, overlooking the southern approach to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. Upon completion, it will be one of the largest Buddha rupas in the world, at a height of 169 feet (51.5 meters).
Glimpses of Thimphu
Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital, occupies a valley in the country’s western interior. In addition to being the government seat, the city is known for its Buddhist sites. The massive Tashichho Dzong is a fortified monastery and government palace with gold-leaf roofs. The Memorial Chorten
Memorial stupa, Bhutan
The Memorial Stupa, Thimphu, also known as the Thimphu Chorten, is a stupa (Dzongkha chöten, cheten) in Thimphu, Bhutan, located on Doeboom Lam in the southern-central part of the city near the main roundabout and Indian military hospital. The stupa, built in 1974 to honor the third Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck (1928–1972), is a prominent landmark in the city with its golden spires and bells. In 2008, it underwent extensive renovation. It is popularly known as the most visible religious landmark in Bhutan. It was consecrated by Dudjom Jigdral Yeshe Dorje.
This stupa is unlike others as it does not enshrine human remains. Only the Druk Gyalpo’s photo in a ceremonial dress adorns a hall in the ground floor.[2] When he was alive, Jigme Dorji wanted to build a chorten to represent the mind of the Buddha.

Solo in Paro Bhutan | Tiger's Nest visit | Bhutan Travel Guide | Bhutan Series Ep 1 | Tanya Khanijow
Here’s presenting the first part of the Bhutan Series Episode in Paro. I went straight to Paro as first part of my road trip in the country. The drive from Phuntsholing took about 4 hours.
The entire budget of my Bhutan trip was close to INR 25k. You can carry cash everywhere in Indian currency in Bhutan as it is accepted. Some things about Paro below:
1. The place where I stayed at in Paro is called Ama’s Village Lodge. You can book the place here -
2. The cost of entry to Taktsang Goempa is INR 500 and a round trip with any driver will cost INR 1000 from your lodge
3. You can contact Mr. Yonten Norbu for driving you around Bhutan if you are visiting. His number is +975 17672515 , my experience with him was extremely nice. He was a perfect gentleman who ensured my safety and also made sure my experience in Bhutan was memorable.
4. If you are visiting Bhutan, I would highly advice you to get a local sim for contacting tour agencies or driver. A local sim will be available for INR 200 at Phuntsholing.
5. Other places that you can visit in Paro are - Paro Dzong and you can get a Hot Stone bath which is very popular in the area
Let me know in comments if you have any more questions.

Blessed Rainy Day (Thrue Bab)
September 23: Blessed Rainy Day
This national holiday, known as Thrue Bab, marks the end of the monsoon season and the beginning of the harvest season in Bhutan. On this day, Bhutanese believe that all natural water is holy and ablutions will cleanse one of defilements and bad karma. Astrologers determine the most auspicious hour for ablutions. Besides purification through washing, Bhutanese observe the day by feasting, drinking alcohol and playing traditional sports such as archery and khuru (dart).

Bhutan road trip: Driving towards Thimphu town
See a Chinese jugaad tractor running on a generator (used for agricultural purposes, chiefly tilling), a bus-stop and a municipal dumpster, while driving in western Bhutan. A man wears the Bhutanese national dress or Gho, while driving the jugad tractor! Prayer flags stand on the promontaries and hill-tops in long lines...
Thimphu, also in the past spelled as Thimpu, is the capital and largest city of Bhutan. It is situated in the western central part of Bhutan and the surrounding valley is one of Bhutan's dzongkhags, the Thimphu District. The city became the capital of Bhutan in 1961. As of 2005 it had a population of 79,185, with 98,676 people living in the entire Thimphu district.
The city is spread out longitudinally in a north-south direction on the west bank of the valley formed by the Wang Chuu, also known as the Thimphu Chuu River. Thimphu is located at 27°28′00″N 89°38′30″ECoordinates: 27°28′00″N 89°38′30″E and is spread over an altitudinal range between 2,248 metres (7,375 ft) and 2,648 metres (8,688 ft). Unusually for a capital city, Thimphu is not served by an airport, but relies on the airport at Paro, connected by road some 54 kilometres (34 mi) away.
Thimphu, as the political and economic center of Bhutan, has a dominant agricultural and livestock base, which contributes to 45% of the country's GNP. Tourism, though a contributor to the economy, is strictly regulated, maintaining a balance between the traditional, development and modernization. Thimphu contains most of the important political buildings in Bhutan, including the National Assembly of the newly formed parliamentary democracy and Dechencholing Palace, the official residence of the King, located to the north of the city. As a metropolis and capital city, Thimphu is coordinated by the Thimphu Structure Plan, an Urban Development Plan which evolved in 1998 with the objective of protecting the fragile ecology of the valley. This development is ongoing with financial assistance from the World Bank and Asian Development Bank.
The culture of Bhutan is fully reflected in Thimphu in respect of literature, religion, customs, and national dress code, the monastic practices of the monasteries, music, dance, literature and in the media. Tsechu festival is an important festival when mask dances, popularly known as Cham dances, are performed in the courtyards of the Tashichhoe Dzong in Thimphu. It is a four-day festival held every year during Autumn (September/October), on dates corresponding to the Bhutanese calendar.
