Yelapa Mexico the magical village of the Pacific. 2016
Yelapa (Yeh - La -Pa) was probably first populated by a some Native Americans of the tribe that originated in the ancient circular town of Tenacatitlan, 100 miles north, as they migrated south to eventually form Mexico City and become the Aztec empire. The word means 'gathering place' or 'meeting place' and, although it lies on the same latitude as Hawaii, has been likened to Tahiti.
The road south of Puerto Vallarta does not go all the way around the bay but cuts inland at Boca de Tomatlan. To get to Yelapa you must take a boat from Boca de Tomatlan , Los Muertos beach or the beach just south of the Rosita Hotel. Yelapa can also be reached by mountain bike or hiking down from El Tuito, high in the mountains behind the village. There is a daily cruise boat that drops tourists off for about two hours. Here in Puerto Vallarta you will find alot of beauty and culture, and of course the magical village of Yelapa.
Yelapa & Majahuitas | Vallarta Adventures®
The Bay of Banderas is home to two of the most picturesque coves in all of Mexico: Yelapa and Majahuitas, located just south of Puerto Vallarta. Home to sandy beaches, warm ocean waters, and tropical wildlife both on land and in the sea, Yelapa and Majahuitas are everything you'd imagine when you think of a tropical cove paradise. On our Yelapa and Majahuitas Tour at Vallarta Adventures, you get to experience these coves firsthand.
Yelapa, Walk along the Beach into Town and see the Yelapa Waterfall
Yelapa (read more: is for those who enjoy finding hidden places or hideaways to get away from the hustle and bustle of modern civilization. Undoubtedly the place to look for these in the Banderas Bay area is to look south, there are a number of beautiful beaches, especially those that can only be reached by sea, among these Yelapa.
Yelapa is a fabulous little beach and town, so isolated that you feel as if you were on a tropical island in the South Pacific, for a long time even cellphones didn't work here and that was wonderful. 30-45 minutes south of Puerto Vallarta by sea, between the jungle and the waters of the Bay of Banderas and the small Yelapa bay.
Many famous authors and artists live and die dreaming of places like Yelapa, others have had the fortune to find it and live here for a while, at least, a favorite place of, for example, Bob Dylan.
The tranquility and privacy of the place makes it ideal for inspiration. The town is picturesque, the beauty that surrounds it, irresistible, the inspiration comes from the sea, the jungle and the mountains.
Where is Yelapa?
Yelapa is in the southern zone of the Banderas Bay, between Majahuitas Beach and Pizota (further west). It is about 20-30 minutes by water taxi (panga) from Boca de Tomatlan. You can only arrive by sea.
How to get to Yelapa from Puerto Vallarta
To get to the place there is only one way, by sea, you can take a boat from the Los Muertos Beach Pier (50-60 minutes), or travel by land in a bus (orange and while, from the corner of Basilio Badillo and Constitución in Puerto Vallarta's romantic zone) passing Mismaloya until you reach Boca de Tomatlan, the final destination of the public bus. From there take a water taxi, or panga , as they call them locally, the trip by sea takes about 30 minutes.
It is advisable to get to Playa Yelapa from Boca de Tomatlan, there are two docks to disembark in Yelapa Cabo Corrientes, one on the main beach by the side of Lagunita Yelapa Hotel and another in the town of Yelapa which is in the west side of the small Yelapa Bay.
The route of the boats usually includes quick stops at the beaches before reaching the destination, these may include Las Ánimas, Quimixto and Majahuitas depending on the rest of the passengers on the motor boat.
Among the favorite activities in Yelapa are going to see the Yelapa Waterfall and paragliding (parasailing too).

Puerto Vallarta 2017: Yelapa and Majahuitas
My high school best friend, Faye and I decided to go to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. It is both our first time being in Mexico so we were super excited for everything. Puerto Vallarta provides great choices of excursions (from Vallarta Adventures: and the people are very friendly, funny, and nice. Honestly, my favourite part of this trip was interacting with the locals, tour guides, and entertainers.

Yelapa & Majahuitas
Relax onboard our modern catamarans as we cruise south of Puerto Vallarta. Our morning is spent in the exquisite bay of Majahuitas. This sheltered cove possesses some of the most inviting and clear waters in the bay, making it a perfect place for snorkeling and kayaking. In the afternoon we head to Yelapa, for a stroll through this charming Mexican fishing village. A beautiful beach blanketed with golden sand and calm waters makes Yelapa a superb place to swim, relax on the beach or hike through the village and jungle to the nearby waterfalls before enjoying a delicious lunch on board the catamaran.

PART 2: WATERFALL & BEACH EXPERIENCE
Here's a short look at the waterfall and beach portion of the excursion.
Your guide takes you through a tough hike through moderate to difficult terrain to the waterfalls. If you can handle the hike then the end result is well worth it. We stayed there for about 30 minutes and then headed back down to the beach area to meet up with the rest of the tour. Once agin this hike is not an easy one so be prepared. Once at the beach we were able to relax on the beach or at the restaurant for about an hour before heading back to the catamaran.
