This is what happens when you try tai chi for the first time in Taipei. We were completely out of our element at the temple but so amused with how clueless I'm sure we looked to the locals. Right after we head to the town of Wulai just south of Taipei to finally soak ourselves in one of many hot springs in the area. It was hot, cold, and sometimes just right but Yen Town was the perfect place to soothe our aching muscles. If that wasn't enough, we wrapped up our day at a hip new place called Addiction Aquatic Development and then tried our hand at the favourite Taiwanese past-time of shrimp fishing.
With a days left to go on our trip, we made sure to make it count making a fast-forward race to have Din Tai Fung for the famed xiao long bao and buy pineapple pastry/cake for friends and family back home.
And just like that, our 12 days in Taiwan trip comes to a close. I have to thank Joshua of MyTaiwanTour for this episode and introducing us to his tai chi class, and showing us Wulai.

Witches Hot Springs in XinBeitou, Taiwan

Xinbeitou, The Hot Spring Shangri-la
After a longtime of sleeping and mutation, Xinbeitou Hot Spring, the most well-known hot-spring resort for the last one-hundred years has experienced a rebirth. Like phoenix from the flames it soars. Standing at the crossing point of humanity and history, Xinbeitou Hot Spring has intoned again on ancient past, a beautiful past, and echoes with the nature's life and beauty.
Beitou used to be a place in northern Taiwan where the Ketagalan tribe, the Pingpu flatland tribe, had lived. By the fear of the cloudy and mistrial scene of the Datun Mountain, the local aborigines named the place as Beitou which meant witches or the residence of witches. In 1894, mid-nineteenth century, a German named Ouely was the first person documented Beitou and the establishment of hot spring club which draw water from the hot sulfur springs. This is thought to be the beginning of the development of Beitou's sulfur spring.
Origin and Glorious time of Beitou Hot Spring
In 1986, Taiwan's first hot-spring hotel, the TienGo House, was established by Hiroda Gengo, a Japanese businessman, and then promoted to Japan. Thus, more and more hot spring hotels were set up in Beitou, and also more and more Japanese started visiting Taiwan for relaxation. In 1913, the grand two-story Public Bathing Pool of Beitou Hot Spring was founded.
In general, during the period from 1896 to 1945 when Taiwan had been colonized by Japan, and even at the end of the World War II, Beitou, influenced by the political environment at that time, had become famous spot for international resort.

Follow the waters to reach here. Its located at the end of the abandoned resort at Wulai, Taiwan. Try visiting here at the dark for maximum dread. Tame your fears.
EP8 Seeing Taiwan: King's Garden Villa Guanziling hot spring, 原味山產美食 and 桶仔雞 barrel roast chicken
關子嶺溫泉 Guanziling is a hot springs town in the district of Baihe (which translates to white river). The hot springs water here is slightly chalky due to the mineral deposits. It's not the easiest place to get to so we hired a driver at the Shangri La (TW$1,500 = £40 for the 1hr trip from Tainan to Guanziling).
The drive through the mountains was beautiful and our driver was able to tell us a lot about the area (his contact details below). There are plenty of resorts in Guanziling but King's Garden had a more boutique feel to it. The rooms, resort grounds and spa are all kept really well with lots of small details making it feel more cosy.
Each room/villa in the resort has it's own private hot spring which is pretty much 2 stone baths with hot spring taps. It was great to make use of our private spring while the main one was so busy. The cost of the room includes 1 night stay (with private spring), single access to the main spa, single access to the nude spa (we gave that a miss) and breakfast.
The main spa area has strict rules on swim wear and everyone must wear swim caps (otherwise refused entry). We stayed on a Sunday night so the main spa was packed with people during the day but it is open until 10pm so we went in around 8pm and most day guests had left so we almost had the whole place to ourselves!
The facilities at the spa are insane! They have everything you can think of and more. Not captured on the video was the steam and sauna rooms, lounging areas, feet warming/massage chairs and the Jacuzzi beds in the pool.
A short walk from the hotel is the main street which has some shops and restaurants. The must try dish is 桶仔雞 (barrel roast chicken) and pretty much every restaurant in the area either specializes in it or sells it. Slow cooking the chicken in the barrel is meant to keep it moist (it wasn't).

烏來重新出發了????
這回目地就是要泡湯♨️♨️
最喜歡在冬天泡溫泉了❤️
晚上泡！隔天早上也泡????
雖然第二天下毛毛雨有點掃興
但依舊撐著傘好好的把久違的烏來逛ㄧ回！

個人覺得浴缸（溫泉池）蠻大的????

但也許是假日的關係，也看在免費溫泉還有早晚餐就算了
然後服務人員態度都不錯啦????
不過平時習慣住超高檔的朋友，這應該不是好選擇????
