Yeo Valley Organic - sustainable farming in Somerset

Yeo Valley is one of Britain's most established dairy companies, best-known for its organic yoghurt range. As a major employer at two sites in Somerset, Yeo Valley produces 8-million pots of yoghurt every week and has a turnover of almost £0.2bn, but the company is still family owned and has won several awards for sustainable farming and minimising environmental impact.

Yeo Valley is a family business which has been making delicious dairy products in the West Country from the early 1970s. It all began over 50 years ago when Roger and Mary Mead bought Holt Farm in Blagdon and set about establishing a dairy herd.

2012 Annual Mendip Ploughing Match

Skill, experience and determination were all to the fore when Yeo hosted the annual Mendip Ploughing Match at Yoxter Farm, near Wells. For the event's 154th year, blades were lowered in 100 Acre Field at 10am and there was no let-up until 3pm, when prizes were awarded. Participation varied from wonderful horse-drawn ploughs to amazing touch-screen computer-controlled tractors, and there were also displays of hedge-laying, dry stone-walling. Competitors and audience enjoyed a delicious Ploughman's lunch and cider, and big talk was exchanged about what could be expected next year.
