Gyeongsangbuk-do is known for its stunning landscape, traditional heritage, and healthy and delicious cuisine. It's only natural that Gyeongbuk cuisine is a rising food trend as the world seeks out healthy food. Chef Matthew Jung, a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu and expert in French and American cuisines, travels to Gyeongbuk to sample some of the region's signature dishes famed for its deliciousness and nutritional excellence.
Pohang gwamegi and mulhoe, riches of the East Sea
A simple meal designed to satisfy hungry fishermen has become Koreans' favorite food. From mulhoe made by pouring water over a spicy mixture of thinly sliced raw fish to gwamegi, mackerel pike dried by freezing and thawing in the cold ocean winds, abundant seafoods from the East Sea are nourishing the people of Pohang and beyond. Matthew Jung shows how food researchers are trying to publicize gwamegi to the world by upgrading its nutritional value and flavors.

If you are looking for healthy eats, look no further than Eumsik Dimibang, a cookbook written by Jang Gye-hyang for her descendants in 1670. While the average lifespan of Joseon kings, who had enjoyed all sorts of delectable food, was only 43.3 years, Eumsik Dimibang author Jang Gye-hyang lived to be 82 and her husband 84. The healthy and nutritious recipes of Eumsik Dimibang have been passed down in Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do for generations. The secret to these dishes lies in bringing out the natural flavors of each dish by using fresh ingredients, simple seasonings, and low-fat cooking methods such as steaming or boiling. Matthew Jung meets with Jo Gwi-bun, president of the Eumsik Dimibang Preservation Society, to learn some timeless recipes and the scientific principles hidden in them.

In the early Goryeo period, about a thousand years ago, there was a mysterious village in Yeongdeok, Gyeongsangbuk-do. Although the village was impoverished, its residents were always vigorous and had a healthy glow about them. It was thought that the sea god's maidens lived in this village. But actually their secret to keeping fit and healthy despite the poverty was Yeongdeok snow crabs. Matthew Jung enjoys the diverse flavors of the Yeongdeok snow crabs, now in season, and sees how this Gyeongbuk delicacy is processed into more marketable products.

Let’s make Yeongdeok Snow Crab Festival the truly representative festival of Korea
[International i Journal = Reporter Ma Hyeseong from Yeoui Peak, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Korea] Yeongdeok-gun (County) held '20th Yeongdeok Snow Crab Festival' from March 23 to 26 where we could enjoy various sights and foods in Haepalang Park at Ganggu Port.

Yeongdeok-gun made great efforts to upgrade the level of this 20 year old Yeongdeok Snow Crab Festival, which started in 1998. Another change was to move the festival hall from the narrow streets of Ganggu Harbor to 'Haeparang Park', which was completed last year, to enhance tourist convenience and space efficiency.
It is much easier for tourists to enjoy the festival at a glance. The traffic system was also transformed in favor of vehicle drivers by allowing them to circulate the Ganggu Port rather than shutting down the whole port area. The Yeongdeok Snow Crab Festival shuttle bus departs from Pohang KTX Station (in Heunghae-eup) for train visitors.
You can also enjoy a variety of foods made with Yongdeok snow crabs such as Yongdeok Snow Crab Noodle, Yongdeok Soy Sauce Marinated Snow Crab Bibimbap, Yongdeok Snow Crab Ramen, Yongdeok Snow Crab Bread, and Yeongdeok Snow Crab Rice Cake as much as you want but at a reasonable price.
There are also performances such as 'Snow Crab Goblin', a festival theme performance in which 'Doggaei (goblin)' that was recently taken off the air is interfaced with Yeongdeok snow crabs, 'Lead Swinger on Vacation', a Yeongdeok’s intrinsic original play, and ‘Wolwolicheongcheong and Byeolsingut’, old and traditional intangible cultural assets, In the evening of the first day of Yeongdeok Snow Crab Festival (March 23), it is expected that the festive mood will reach its high pitch when MBC Folk Song Best, a popular TV program is recorded at Haeparang Park.
There are many other experience programs that various age groups can enjoy from children to adults, for example, ‘Let’s Catch Snow Crabs, a mobile augmented reality game’, ‘Let’s Run with Snow Crabs, a speed game’, and ‘Let’s Hook Snow Crabs & Gold in which you will hook luxurious Bakdal snow crabs having golden rings on their legs’.
Baek Seung-jin, a new general director of Yeongdeok Snow Crab Festival revealed his strong ambitions, saying “We are going to make Yeongdeok Snow Crab Festival the truly representative festival of Korea by strengthening existing good programs and introducing new and fresh programs, aiming at only a festival with stable festival operation, sustainability, creative program, and identity,” This year, Yeongdeok-gun has commissioned Mr. Shin Gu (a star of Gentlemen at ‘Wolgyesu Tailor’s Shop) as an honorary ambassador for 2 consecutive years and is using various media such as broadcasting, newspapers, and social media to promote omnidirectional PR for the festival.
An official of Yeongdeok-gun said, To break the prejudice that it is hard to eat Yeongdeok snow crabs because they are expensive, we have prepared cheap and delicious snow crab foods such as Snow Crab Ramen and Soy Sauce Marinated Snow Crab Bibimbap, and prepared a festival for people to relax themselves well while enjoying exciting performances and experience programs. Family, lovers, friends, and others, please come and enjoy the festival.”

Scuba Dive at Yeongdeok
Diving on the 5th of September at the Yeongdeok, Daejin Scuba Resort on the east coast of South Korea to discover 5x5m crab statues, 24m under the waves and an old wreck just a few kicks along side the Crabs.

한라산 산행 (Korea Jeju Island Halla Mountain Walking)
이번에 2박3일 제주도 두루 여행 했습니다. 둘째날 아침일찍 한라산 산행 했습니다. 룸 메이트로 한국도로공사 경북본부 권대욱 본부장님 과 같은 방을 사용했으며~ , 한전 상주지점 김신희 부장님 , 정우수 부장님 과 2박 3일 동안 재미있게 보냈습니다.
지난 6.15(수) 제주도 한라산 산행을 동영상으로 만들었습니다. 제주출신 가수 혜은이 씨가 감수광 배경음악으로 넣었습니다.
효과음은 까마귀소리, 뻐꾹기소리, 참새소리, 발자국소리, 비행기소리,넣었습니다. 실제, 한라산에 오를때 까마귀 소리 많이 들렸습니다.
등산경로 구성은 등산시 흰색 알 표시하고~, 하산시 푸른옥색 이 흰색알 주위에 깔리도록 했습니다. 집에서 만든 영상 올려봅니다.

Korea I traveled to Jeju Island for 3 days and 2 nights. On the second day of the morning, I went hiking in Halla Mountain. I used a room with Mr. Kwon Dae-wook, the head of the Korea Expressway Corporation's Gyeongbuk province as a room-mate. I spent 3 days and 2 nights with Mr. Kim Sung-hee,
6.15 (Wed) Jeju Island made a video footage of Halla Mountain. Hwang Eun-ee, a singer from Jeju, put it as a background music.
The effect sound is the sound of a crow, the sound of a cock, the sound of a sparrow, the sound of a footprint, the sound of an airplane. Actually, I heard a lot of crows when I climbed Mount Halla.
When climbing, White Egg is displayed on the mountain climbing route, and Azure on Hassan City is laid on the white egg. I uploaded a homemade image.
