YEREVAN CITY TOUR - ARMENIA
Yerevan (Armenia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Yerevan in Armenia.
Yerevan is the capital of Armenia and is a city that is twenty nine years older than Rome. In 408 A.D., the Armenian alphabet was created with thirty six letters and thus began a new era of history, culture and the spiritual world of the Armenian people. On the basis of these first manuscripts and subsequent translations, Armenia’s first library was founded in the fifth century. Old Yerevan contains traditional buildings with wonderful entrances and carved wooden adornments that continue into the actual living areas. The facades of multi-coloured decorative stone are quite fascinating. Oriental design reveals the original influence. On the western hill above the city is the Memorial Of The Genocide Of The Armenian People. New gravestones commemorate the victims of the conflict on Karabach Mountain. Arranged in a circle, basalt steles protect a flickering eternal flame like a closing hand from distant times. In the eyes of the Turks, the Christian Armenians posed a major threat. Taverns often feature singing, dancing and good food. Armenian music is very varied, often sounds oriental, and literally invites one to dance! The folk dances are quite acrobatic and dancers almost fall into a state of ecstasy due to the constant pulse of the music. Today Yerevan is a vibrant city that has become a booming metropolis in the South Caucasus and is one of the oldest cities in the world, a living reminder of the ancient Orient!

YEREVAN, Armenia: Top sights and attractions of the Pink City (2016)
TURN ON SUBTITLES FOR EXPLANATORY NOTES ABOUT THE SIGHTS AND ATTRACTIONS!!
(I am aware of the fact that this video does not have my audio commentary, so I added explanatory subtitles! This was my very first video on YouTube and I have been trying to improve things.)
A weekend in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia
Yerevan is the capital of Armenia, a country located in the Caucasus, bordering Georgia, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Iran. It is largest city of Armenia as well as one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities.
In addition to this video, also check out my blog post 10 reasons why I fell in love with Yerevan, Armenia:
In this video, you will see Yerevan's most important sights and tourist attractions, including the following:
Republic Square can be considered the main square of Yerevan. The Government House, the History Museum and the National Gallery, the Marriott Hotel and several other government buildings are located on this huge square. Originally designed by Alexander Tamanyan in 1924, Republic Square is the favorite hangout of the locals. With its unique pink neoclassical buildings and the reflecting pool, Republic Square can easily be considered Yerevan’s architectural highlight. What I found remarkable about this square was the unified architectural style – all buildings share the same pink-ish and yellow-ish neoclassical design.
The Cascade is a staircase that connects Yerevan’s center (Kentron) with the Monument neighborhood. It consists of multiple levels and a total of 572 steps. Apart from its architectural magnificence, the Cascade offers sweeping views of the city and, on clear days, mighty Mount Ararat in the background.
The Cafesjian Center for the Arts is an arts museum located within the Cascade complex. It offers a variety of exhibitions and dozens of modern and contemporary sculptures by well-known international sculptors. The sculptures are scattered around Cascade Park, the green area in the lower section of the Cascade complex.

VISIT ARMENIA - THINGS TO DO IN YEREVAN (Travel Vlog)
My first visit to Armenia and my first day in Yerevan, I explored the city, visiting the cascade, seeing the mother of Armenia statue located in victory park, then meeting a local that had just started a free walking tour company and was kind enough to show me around. I visited the flea market, saw a local playing the duduk instrument, I also had another try of Kvas... and liked it. Ending off the day at republic square watching the night time fountain show.

#Yerevan has a long-long history of thousands of years, dating back to the rise of #oldest #civilizations in the #world.
One theory regarding the origin of Yerevan's name is the city was named after the Armenian king, Yervand IV, the last leader of the Orontid Dynasty, and founder of the city of Yervandashat. However, it is likely that the city's name is derived from the #Urartian #military fortress of #Erebuni (Էրեբունի), which was founded on the territory of modern-day Yerevan in 782 BC by Argishti I.As elements of the Urartian language blended with that of the Armenian one, the name eventually evolved into Yerevan (Erebuni = Erevani = Erevan = Yerevan).
Early #Christian Armenian #chroniclers attributed the origin of the name, Yerevan, to a derivation from an expression exclaimed by Noah, in Armenian. While looking in the direction of Yerevan, after the ark had landed on Mount Ararat and the flood waters had receded, Noah is believed to have exclaimed, Yerevats! (it appeared!).
Over the past years, Yerevan transformed vividly and rapidly. Renowned for its cultural activities, #museums, #theaters and #nightlife, it has become a #major #tourist #destination. Yerevan is the financial and business hub of the country, and is home to many international organizations.

Yerevan,Erivan:
Yerevan (sometimes spelled Erivan is the capital and largest city of Armenia as well as one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities. Situated along the Hrazdan River, Yerevan is the administrative, cultural, and industrial center of the country. It has been the capital since 1918, the thirteenth in the history of Armenia, and the seventh located in or around the Ararat plain.
The history of Yerevan dates back to the 8th century BC, with the founding of the fortress of Erebuni in 782 BC by king Argishti I at the western extreme of the Ararat plain. Erebuni was designed as a great administrative and religious centre, a fully royal capital. By the late ancient Armenian Kingdom, new capital cities were established and Yerevan declined in importance. Under Iranian and Russian rule, it was the center of the Erivan Khanate from 1736 to 1828 and the Erivan Governorate from 1850 to 1917, respectively. After World War I, Yerevan became the capital of the First Republic of Armenia as thousands of survivors of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire arrived in the area. The city expanded rapidly during the 20th century as Armenia became part of the Soviet Union. In a few decades, Yerevan was transformed from a provincial town within the Russian Empire to Armenia's principal cultural, artistic, and industrial center, as well as becoming the seat of national government.
With the growth of the economy of the country, Yerevan has been undergoing major transformation as many parts of the city have been the recipient of new construction since the early 2000s, and retail outlets as much as restaurants, shops, and street cafés, which were rare during Soviet times, have multiplied. As of 2011, the population of Yerevan was 1,060,138, just over 35% of the Republic of Armenia's total population. According to the official estimate of 2016, the current population of the city is 1,073,700. Yerevan was named the 2012 World Book Capital by UNESCO. Yerevan is an associate member of Eurocities.
Of the notable landmarks of Yerevan, Erebuni Fortress is considered to be the birthplace of the city, the Katoghike Tsiranavor church is the oldest surviving church of Yerevan and Saint Gregory Cathedral is the largest Armenian cathedral in the world, Tsitsernakaberd is the official memorial to the victims of the Armenian Genocide, and several opera houses, theatres, museums, libraries, and other cultural institutions. Yerevan Opera Theatre is the main spectacle hall of the Armenian capital, the National Gallery of Armenia is the largest art museum in the Republic of Armenia and shares a building with the History Museum of Armenia, and the Matenadaran repository contains one of the largest depositories of ancient books and manuscripts in the world. The neoclassical Republic Square is the center of the city and the monumental Cascade steps lead from the city center to Victory Park, home of a Luna Park and the statue Mother Armenia overlooking Yerevan.Wikipedia

#TempleofGarni
Almost anyone who comes to #Armenia visits #Garni, and they think it is the 76 AD temple and #Roman style baths. Many learn when they visit that the #cyclopic stone walls that surround the royal summer residence and #temple are were in fact first laid in the 3rd millennium BC by ancestral #Armenians who developed the region into one of the greatest #metallurgical and trading powers in #Mesopotamia and Asia Minor.
The temple of Garni itself was dedicated to the #sun #goddess Mythra. Armenians shared #Zoroastrian entities with #Persia (and by the time of Garni Temple, with the Eastern Roman empire, which had adopted Mythra as a patron goddess), and worshipped fire as an ultimate gift from the gods, an entity in itself.
#GenocideMuseum
The Armenian #Genocide #Memorial #Complex or #Tsitstsernakaberd is dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide. The memorial was built in 1967 in #Yerevan and includes the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute which was opened in 1995.

Pearls of Armenia Tour, Part 1: Yerevan-Tsaghkadzor-Lake Sevan
Pearls of Armenia, Part 1 will cover 2 destinations:
1. Tsaghkadzor literally means valley of flowers or flower canyon in Armenian . The famous ski resort located above the town is 1750 meters above sea level, where for only 4$ per person one can take the ropeway up to the mountain and back. Ski lessons are also being offered should someone be interested.
In the summer, people go there to get away from the city life of Yerevan, and the heat, for the fresh air in the mountains.

Sevanavank, a well-known 9th-century monastery on a steep hill with picturesque views of Sevan Lake is just above the restaurant accessible via stairs.
