Clipsham Yew Tree Avenue
An avenue of nearly 150 clipped yew trees leading to Clipsham Hall in Leicestershire. Forest Enterprise clip the yews in September each year.
Clipsham Yew Avenue
Clipsham is a small village in the county of Rutland in the East Midlands of England. It is in the northeast of Rutland, close to the county boundary with Lincolnshire.
The topiary Yew Tree Avenue, once the carriage drive to Clipsham Hall, is now maintained by the Forestry Commission. The avenue stretches for 500 metres (1,600 ft), with some 150 shaped yew trees leading towards the Hall, an 18th-century mansion set in a landscaped park. Many of the trees are over 200 years old and have been trimmed since 1870 into various shapes depicting birds and animals on the tops and designs in relief on the sides.
2 Bourrées, B. 160b1
Frédéric Chopin wrote his Two Bourrées in 1846, though they were never published during his lifetime. As they lack an opus number, they are usually referred to by their Brown catalogue numbers, B. 160b1 and B. 160b2. Like many of his lesser works, they were published posthumously (in 1968), contrary to his wish that all his unpublished manuscripts be burned.

Tree House Aka Yew Tree House (1962)
Glasshouse, Gloucestershire.
M/S of a cottage with immaculate topiary in the front garden. Low angle shot of a bird shaped shrub. M/S of two shaped trees on either side of a garden gate, tilt down to show off their full glory. C/U of a road sign that reads - 'A.P.C., Glasshouse'. L/S of another cottage, panning shot to a gigantic yew tree shaped like a house. C/U of the chimney on the yew house. The tree was originally shaped by a Norwegian seaman who had been stranded here at the outbreak of the last war. He worked nearby as a forester, and shaped the tree as a token of his affection for the locals for the their kindness to him.
M/S of Walter Llewellyn, in whose garden the tree stands, bending down to pick up a pair of pliers. Panning shot follows Mr. L. up a ladder resting against the side of the yew tree. M/S of Mr. L. reaching the top of the ladder and starting to trim the 'roof' of the tree. L/S of Mr. L. pruning.
M/S of Mrs. L. coming out of her house with a tray of tea. M/S of Mr. L. coming to the bottom of the ladder and walking through the garden gate, stopping on his way to trim a little more from the tree 'walls'. M/S of Mr. L. coming through the front gate, a panning shot follows him as he sits on the garden bench inside the yew house - Mr. Llewellyn actually uses the tree as a summer house. Mrs. L. takes the tray of tea over to her husband sitting inside the yew. L/S of Mrs. L walking away from the yew tree summer house.

Forbidden Fruit : Yew Berry Eating
The red flesh of yew berries is edible but the seed and foliage isn't. Yew is used to make an anti cancer treatment drug, taxol. Yew is mostly fatal to animals. Don't try this unless you know what you are doing.

Longwood Gardens Sculptured Topiary Garden
About this Outdoor Garden
Fanciful cones, spirals, and other shapes delight visitors to this Garden, which includes more than 50 specimens in 20 different shapes.
The highly-cultivated yews are meticulously cared for, pruned, and trained over decades to achieve the sculptural forms that our guests enjoy today.
The Topiary Garden is now open for the season.
History of this Garden
Some of the 50 different specimens found in this Garden were planted in 1936, although most were added in 1958 from a Long Island estate. Within this area is a 30 x 36-foot oval analemmatic sundial constructed by Pierre S. du Pont in 1939.
